VLC Player plays everything http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ VLC doesn't need nor use any of the shared codecs on your computer. VLC is free and open source, has versions for every OS, and has many advanced features for adding/syncing subtitles, adjusting audio sync, convert video formats or stream video. It can even be used to rip a DVD. Mostly, it just plays most every kind of audio or video file you are likely to come across. Or get yourself a codec pack like CCCP or K-Lite and play this in Windows Media Player or whatever.
