An unknown force strikes at four prisons for super-human, and dozens of the most dangerous super villains break free. The most powerful superheroes unite in an alliance called the Avengers to return to break free evil behind bars. The characters look like this, as we see them, and were (except for the Wasps, which I think is one of the major failures of the series, because he looks and behaves like a teenager). We see their strengths and weaknesses (Hawkeye likes to play alone, Iron Man too looks forward to his armor, and other inventions, Thor, as a native of Asgard itself is bad today's realities, the world of science and technology).
