 The film is amazingly atmospheric and filled with the gothic hints while John Cusack’s performance is great. The producers of the film didn’t want to portray a famous writer as a stubborn and wicked person but on the contrary made him light and intelligent. In 1800 Allan Po is a famous writer whose works are praised by the public and are published in the newspapers. However, one day a murder which painfully resembles the one described in the latest Po’s novel takes place and the police start to investigate the crime. At first they think that Po himself is a mere murderer who then describes his crimes in the book, however, later on it becomes obvious that the murderer is someone different willing to damage the reputation of the famous writer. Po himself is eager to learn the truth and starts his own investigation.
