Besides, all Amorphis albums are available in mp3 files if would you just search a little. I just want to deliver high quality music. With mp3's you'll always have to keep fingers crossed. Too often some jerk has managed to mess things up with encoding settings when 320kbit mp3 sounds as bad as 128kbit, and that pisses me off. With mpc you just can't go wrong.

Hmm... luckily my self-phone supports m4a, with 112 kbit I could get reasonable quality even when re-encoded from high bitrate mp3's. If so, then I would say mpc is enough for re-encoding also. But, if you want to re-encode into low bitrate mp3, you are out of luck.

2) explanation, please ;) with reasonable bitrate (~170kbit) poor old mp3 doesn't have a chance against mpc or vorbis... or almost any other audio format.

MP3 is dead (development-wise). MPC/Musepack hasn't been worked on for some time though, but it's still much better than MP3.

You are right about some jerks re-encoding (from say.. 64-96 kbps to higuer bitrates 320) or transcoding (from wma's, m4a, oggs to mp3s of bad quality), but mp3 rules at least now there are good encoders though but we have to be very careful not just download the whole stuff.

My reason for uploading albums in mpc is simply the best and most trustworthy sound quality with a reasonable size. If you're looking for compatibility, skip this one. You can find mp3 versions all over the net. But when someone is looking for quality, mpc's for example are quite hard to find. FLAC is too big for my taste but still very good format, no question. PS. My self-phone's music player supports mp4 which has maybe the best quality in very low bitrates. Mp3 sounds terrible below 192kbps, and I don't have too much memory to use bitrate over 128kbps.
