The Artist is a 2011 French romantic comedy-drama film directed by Michel Hazanavicius, starring Jean Dujardin and Berenice Bejo.
Most of the film itself is silent; it is shown in black-and-white, and has received wide praise from critics and many accolades.
Dujardin won the Best Actor Award at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival, where the film premiered.
The film was nominated for six Golden Globes, the most of any film from 2011, and won three; Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy, Best Original Score, and Best Actor - Motion Picture Musical or Comedy (Dujardin).
On 17 January 2012 the film was nominated for twelve BAFTAs.
PLOT:
The story takes place in Hollywood between 1927 and 1932 and focuses on a declining male film star
and a rising actress, as silent cinema grows out of fashion and is replaced by the talkies.

The Artist
Hollywood, 1927. Silent film star George Valentine is in the zenith of a career. However, the advent of sound film will make viewers to forget about him quickly. George can not believe how the fate could do thus. His great game, in which everything is clear with no cues, has left behind. He does not need everyone. But for a young showgirl Pippi Miller, on the contrary, the road to stardom is only beginning... The events, which tells the movie "The Artist” are deployed in 1927 in Hollywood. George Valentin (Jean Dujardin - "OSS 117" and "OSS 117: Mission to Rio"), silent film star, is on top of his career and is confident in the future. However, all changes very quickly after appearance of sound films.
