The action of the movie takes place in France at the beginning of the 30s. The protagonist, an orphan boy, Hugo, who lives in the walls of the Paris train station with his uncle alcoholic and accidentally finds a mysterious mechanism that created the famous filmmaker George Méliès. This finding runs a chain reaction of rather surprising events, which ultimately will help to unravel the mystery of Hugo's dead father.
