The film is based on real events and tells about the life of Dieter Dengler a German, who dreamed of becoming a pilot. He went to the USA, where he became a Navy pilot during the Vietnam War. His plane was shot down over Laos and taken prisoner. Together with a group of prisoners Dieter organized escapes. Producer's symbolism, usually becomes the victim of a paradox, in which he covers the whole meaning, or if you do not make sense, the ethos of the picture. Herzog, like any artist who works in the style of art-house, invariably stuffed with the works symbolic signs and gestures that make this work in the axiological philosophical treatises.
