try to run it in compatibility mode. you can use win xp compatibility. It should work then. 1. right click on install.exe then choose properties. 2. go to the compatibility tab. 3. check "run this program in compatibility mode for:", and then choose win xp. 4. click apply and OK. 5. double click it again and it should work. !!THIS IS NOT SPAM, IT IS A SOLUTION!! WarCraft II can be ran under MS-DOS, Win 3.1 to Win2K. Sometimes even WinXP can run it gently. For the best experience with the old (DOS) Games like this 1, under windows XP and especially Vista, you can use a DOS-Emulator, specially created to run games. Go check for more info http://www.DosBox.com *ps. You also don't have to use a CD on DosBox, you just emulate 2 drives (C: and D probably under #MyDocuments#/DosBox/Drive or so

thanks for upload! and thanks tulipan600 for the instructions, it works flawlessly!! Hey bgizle, I had the same problem, but it was because I forgot to type in the "-t cdrom" while mounting the D drive. Make sure that you type "mount d C:\DOSGAMES\WAR2CD -t cdrom" and it should fix the problem!

so I managed to make warcraftII work on my windows vista once using tulipan600's directions however ever since i tried it again the next day I got the following error message right before the game should have launched: DOS/4GW Professional error (2504): can't create swap file "" DOS/4GW Professional fatal error (1011): VMM initialization error [1] I have no idea what that means... does anyone have a suggestion? thanks

I need help I followed the instruction and everything worked out great till the install part, I got to 8% then it said "there are files missing from the CD" and stuff like that. I tried to extract the .exe file again and again but still got the same problem. What do I do now, please help me

One mistake: 5. Run DOSBox and execute following commands: mount C C:\DOSGAMES mount D C:\DOSGAMES\WAR2CD -t cdrom Of course you can add these two commands to dosbox.conf in section [autoexec] to avoid typing them every time. As well as: c: cd war2 war2.exe exit

Ok so DOSBox works great and all of those commands have worked and gotten the game to run, however I cannot play campaign missions because the game says I need to insert a CD. How do I get around this?

typed that line and it seemed to be working. I then installed it in DOSBox, followed the instructions and executed the program with "war2" Still, same problem. All the files are there, and i used that line of code.

Scratch that I figured it out. I for some reason had two directories with war2.ini files in them, and I just changed the wrong one to the d drive. Thanks for all the help!

Loopin: Once you've downloaded the file, create the said directories and run the file war2_122.exe (the one you downloaded). Put every new file that was just created into your new directory.
