Hey all: This is, unfortunately, not working for me. I keep getting the "Preparing iPod for restore" message, but then nothing happens. It finally tells me there was an error in restoring. I have even tried putting the device in DFU mode and trying to upgrade then, but to no avail! HELP!

hey guys....i tried it with an older version of itunes and it didnt work but when i used the newer version of itunes (8.2) it worked for me.thx uploader.

i've 8.2 already installed. I've restored to non-jailbroken version several times both setting up as a new ipod & restoring from backup. Then i've tried to restore to the jailbroken ispw, but stays stucked on preparing ipod for restore and then shows error 1604. I haven't tried doing it in DFU mode because my home button is broken ; thats the main reason I wanna jailbreak.. is there any other way of entering DFU mode without using the home button ?

@chpprj2 Thanks for the file! However, it downloads as a "Folder" with 3 DMG files in it with other files as well. When I click on the biggest DMG file, it asks me for a password, which, as you guessed it, I don't have. Any suggestions? Furthermore, this restore is not the regular "ispw" kind, so I am a little confused as to how to go about it. Thanks for all your help!!

I'm trying to downgrade to 1.1.4 or 2.2.1 hoping that this will let me do the restore properly. Also wanted to see if I could restore to 1.1.4 then I may be able to put ipod on DFU mode using programs like ZiPhone.. but I ain't having luck on that neither; iTunes won't let me downgrade.. :S someone knows of a way to downgrade without having to be in DFU ?

@minorthreat83 Are you using a mac? because, for some reason, macs don't let you download it correctly. I had a friend that was trying to get 2.0 for free and it kept appearing as a folder with files in it. If you have a windows computer, try downloading it with that.

you need to already have updated to 3.0 for this to work. so i downloaded the latest firmware from apple and found out that there is a new version of redsn0w (0.7.2), and so i clicked that and it now installs icy and/or cydia.

@minorthreat83 I found similar threads which consisted on downgrading to previous versions of itunes. But all of them needed DFU mode.. & even people who managed DFU where having problems. So I didn't uninstall my itunes. But thanks anyways; let me know if you find something that may work for me. @chpprj2 Is it completely necessary to do the restore with the jailbroken ipsw in DFU mode ?

@jazzynightowl If you're reffering to the link to download the firmware then try this one: http://www.felixbruns.***iPod/firmware/ Once in the page, choose the desired firmware it will download directly from apple servers.
