when I open the folder while syncing itunes, the update becomes a word document and doesnt let me open it onto itunes to sync to my touch..maybe I dont have itunes 8.2? how can you tell if you already do? please help me out Wiccey..thanks

When iTunes is open, click "Help", then select "About iTunes" and it will tell you the version you have in there.

I am BRAND NEW to the world of torrents, so please excuse my question if it's stupid/common knowledge. I downloaded this torrent and it has a ".rar" file extension. When I follow your directions (wiccey), iTunes does not recognize this file and only searches for the ".ipsw" file extension. How do I get iTunes to recognize this file? Do I need to somehow convert it or have I not completed the download process fully? Again, I apologize if this is a dumb question and I think you for your assistance in advance!

Nevermind, I figured out that I needed to simply change the file extension, but the upgrade didn't work. (Unless that's not the only fix I needed.) Have any of you who experienced problems figured it out?

joeydeeee You need winrar or 7zip software to open the rar file. A rar file is basically a container which makes files smaller and safer for sending around the internet. Once you have the software just open the rar and drag & drop the ipsw file out.

thank you, cookie! i'll check out that software for future use. i also was able to find the .ipsw file, but was unsuccessful in installing it. i received the same "14" error code that some of the others encountered each time i tried. bummer!!
