Registered Version:
This registered version is the most up-to-date version of The PAD, and will no longer present that annoying exit screen once The PAD is closed. It will also have been personalized for your use, with The PAD's title bar now proudly proclaiming your name. Technical Support for The PAD is now available by directly writing Todd at the registration address (no SASE needed), or contacting him online at http://www.ultranet.com/~tfoley/ . Another Igloo Software release, the Psychic Advisor (unregistered), has also been included for your amusement.
The PAD is in its complete form on the diskette mailed to you, and can be re-installed simply by rerunning the setup program using Windows' Program Manager's Run command. Simply choose 'run' from the File option menu, and select a:setup.exe as the command line.You may choose the current ThePAD directory (probably c:pad) or another one if you don't want to overwrite the unregistered version for some reason.
Alternately, you may choose to simply copy over your current files the three changed files on the disk, ThePAD.exe, Read.dat and ThePAD wri.They are included on the disk in uncompressed form for this purpose. Simply type 'copy a:thepad.exe c:pad' (if c:pad is current ThePAD directory), and overwrite the old file. Do the same for the other two files. Your ThePAD icon will continue to work as you have it set, but the registered version will run.
The new program, Psychic Advisor will run as-is if The PAD has already been installed. Copy Psychic.exe to any directory, and either set it up as a Windows icon using the 'new' option from Program Manager's File Menu, or double-clicking on Psychic.exe in File Manager. The file Psychic.wri, also provided, contains all needed documentation. Feel free to distribute Psychic Advisor, or
the unregistered version of The PAD, to any and all, but please do not distribute the registered version of ThePad.exe
.

Note on Vbrun300.dll- This file should be in your Windows directory for The PAD to run. Since many different windows programs use this same file, some Sysops remove it
from ThePAD3.zip. If The PAD does not run, it may be because Vbrun300.dll is missing.This file is available seperately on most bulletin boards under the name Vbrun300.dll or the more common vbrun300.zip. If you fail to find it on a local board, leave a message for the sysop, and they will undoubtably be able to direct you to it.

SETUP AND USE:
The PAD is a simple program to use- type whatever you want on the PAD, and it will automatically save itself when you close The PAD or exit windows. The next time you startup The PAD, the same notes will be there.
The PAD is best used as a 'backround' program- startup
The PAD before other applications, and use Window's ALT-TAB control key to switch between The PAD and any other application quickly and easily. For quick notes, reminders, telephone numbers- it can't be beat. Just ALT-TAB to The PAD, type in a quick note, and ALT-TAB back to your main program. When you close The PAD later, the notes are still safely there- no 'save as' mucking about. Even if you exit Windows without even closing The PAD the notes will still be saved!
If you find it easier to run The PAD in minimized form,
minimize ThePAD, and use ALT-ESC instead of ALT-TAB to bring the icon to the foreground. Click on ThePAD when you need it, then just minimize it again. ALT-ESC won't maximize The PAD automatically the way ALT-TAB does, and if your other application window doesn't fill to the bottom of the screen, you can have ThePAD's icon always just a click away. Perfect for all those mouse-only types!
For maximum usefulness, copy The PAD's icon to your Windows Startup Group. this will load The PAD everytime you startup Windows. Any notes, reminders, etc on The PAD will this way be brought to your attention immediately. This usage makes The PAD an excellent appointment manager as well! Just type in 'Meeting at 10am' the day before, and it will stare you in the face the next day when you startup your computer! The PAD can eliminate scribbled notes, post-its, and those notes on the desk calendar you never look at.
FEATURES:
DOODLE:
This feature is actually a program-within-a-program. It is a simple drawing program that uses the mouse to draw lines on the screen. To use, just click once on the 'Doodle' button in the bottom right corner of The PAD, and Doodle will appear. You can select the line color from the menubar, then just hold the mouse button down and move the pointer around on the screen. You're Doodling! This is the ultimate program to run while talking on the phone, or just when you don't feel like working or playing Solitare again.
Doodle's menubar also supports printout to your default printer (in case you want to display a doodle on your refrigerator) as well as allowing exit back to The PAD. The 'PAD' button in the bottom right corner of the screen will also return to the pad. The 'Erase all' menu item in Doodle only erases the doodle, not The PAD's notes.
WIPE IT CLEAN:
This feature of The PAD wipes whatever is currently on the screen away. This should be done only when the information on the pad is no longer needed, as The PAD overwrites it's default save file, 'sample.sav' every time it is closed. If you Wipe IT Clean, all old info is no longer visible, and will not be saved.If for some reason you wanted to save a PAD file permanently, rename the current
sample.sav file to keepit.txt (or something), and use Notepad or another word processor to view it later.
PRINTOUT:
The PAD allows for printout of all notes on The PAD, as well as for printout of the Doodle screen. It will allow for
normal Windows printout controls while printing from the main screen, but only automatic printout on the Doodle screen (you can still use Window's Control Panel to alter printout).A quirk with the current version allows word wrapping of all notes on The PAD to the screen, but not to the printer. Failure to hit enter at the end of a line on
The PAD may cause the printout to be wider than the actual paper. If this happens, just insert a carriage return (hit enter) to correct. [Hey, this isn't for term papers.]
