The life of the protagonist turns upside down when he accidentally discovers that his destiny is destined to become the last of the immortal warriors who have dedicated his entire lives to the struggle against the forces of Darkness. Our hero goes on a journey through the ages to find the six elements that will help him to prevent the rising darkness. The film is a very free adaptation of the story "The Rise of Darkness," the British author Susan Cooper, first published in 1973. This is the second part of the cycle of the same name, consisting of five books published between 1965 and 1977. Originally the film rights to the book were purchased in July 1997 an independent company Jim Henson Pictures. Over the next eight years, the production of the project was never put into motion, and in May 2005 rights were bought by the studio Walden Media. Filming took place from 26 February to April 2007 in Romania. Instead of the usual outdoor filming crew for the most part chose to work in the halls of MediaPro Studios, located near Bucharest. There, on a special film sets were built English Village, home of the family Stanton and the medieval church.
