"Silent Light" (Stellet licht) - one of the most difficult to perceive, and, at the same time, one of the most important films of recent years, which is drawn to the seemingly most hackneyed theme in the history of world drama. Johann, after ten years of marriage, suddenly realizes that he need another woman, Marianne, he is suffering and trying to make a choice whether to go to his mistress, or to keep his family. Typically, this story has some additions and a variety of edging. Carlos Reygados, for example, offered to make the characters in the film Mennonites who speak a rare dialect of German, which in itself is quite interesting. Mennonites - a religious movement, brought to Mexico from the Netherlands and Germany, where it was not recognized at one time, in the XIX century. Mennonites, like the representatives of extreme Protestantism, became isolated from the Mexicans, and civilization in general, and to this day have kept a clean blood and the old way of life. Mennonites in the community which is the film, are settled in northern Mexico in the late nineteenth century, but because their religion forbids marriages with people of other religions, they have managed to maintain ethnic purity and absolute cultural separateness.
