is there any way u could up this album lossless...in flac? rather than lossy mp3 pretty pleeeeeease!!? also i noted on your david cassidy rip you said the recordings were digitally gently cleaned. i was hoping u could explain to me your method or technique of doing so. thanks!

Hi Cherbette, unfortunately I can't do this in lossless. I had recorded these albums to Mini-Disc some years back which I believe is around 256kbps max. My record deck is now in storage. I re-recorded them to Audio CD-RW via optical cable and then created WAV files with EAC. Using Audacity I use CLICK REMOVAL on default setting. I then sample a gap between tracks for background noise with NOISE REMOVAL and remove noise on the lowest possible setting. Each track is then separated and saved again in WAV form. I then edit each track on its own in Audacity using fade in, fade out. It is usually best to cut the end a bit short and use a 10 second fade. The start should be immediate, no run in and a split second fade in makes it nice and clean. Once all tracks are ready they can be ripped to MP3. I use Lame in Nero on the slowest, best setting. (Remember, these WAV files are still only from original Mini-Disc which is lossy anyway so there is no point ripping them higher than original.) Hope all this makes sense.

I usually include this info with any viny rips I upload: ------------------------------------------------------- Ripped from good quality vinyl and then very gently remastered. The vinyl was centralized which means there was absolutely no side to side movement of the tone arm. This is usually the major flaw with vinyl as it causes a "WOWING" effect noticable to most audiophiles. It is caused by the hole not being entirely central and is more annoying than the occasional click in my opinion. Also in use on the Dual 505 Record Deck was a Platter Pad [a solid rubber, turntable mat, about 1 and a half cm thick] which no user of vinyl should be without. It enhances the sound no end! ------------------------------------------------------- Something I hate with many vinyl uploads from others is a record deck that has not been earthed properly and you get a background hum. This is completely avoidable. I am never too bothered about LOSSLESS because it all depends what is being used to listen to the files on. In the 70s we were listening to LOSSLESS vinyl on transistor radios! Surely a lossy MP3 rip on a high quality iPod or similar is preferable. I hate poor quality however. Can't stand it when MP3s aren't tagged up nicely (including properties). Normally I would say if you like the songs that much and you want Hi-Fi you should buy the CD but obviously you can't with some rare stuff like this.

Glad you liked the album. Just wanted to add that I have been doing stuff like this for years and the longer you are doing it the better your techniques get. I love torrents because it makes all the effort more worthwhile when others get to enjoy the fruits too.
