<pre>Alright folks, I know a lot of you have probably played The Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion. Some of you that are closer to my heart might have even played the third Elder Scrolls game, Morrowind. But ask yourselves, how many of you have played the predecessors? You guys thought Oblivion was big? The entire game of Oblivion could probably fit in one of the larger dungeons in Daggerfall. Simply the biggest RPG I have ever played. Period. Some of the older individuals on the site who actually remember this game will probably also remember that it is originally DOS based, which one would assume would make it quite hard to run on modern OS's. Well thank you to the writers of DFInstall, which is bundled with this release I'm bringing you. DFInstall is a simple applet that will install the game from the included ISO once you've mounted or burned it. Not only that, but it will automatically crack the game to be played with no cd, patch the game to run at its best on Windows, and even comes with its own way of installing the proper sound card. Either way, enjoy a trip back to the early 90's and don't forget to mumble incoherently about how they just don't make games like they used to p.s. This install can be a bit tricky on certain systems. I DO check my torrents comments sections. anyone with problems installing go to the wiki page (the unofficial elder scrolls page) - insane amount of info about all TES games (there is a kid named Timeh i think he is like the foremost expert on daggerfall, there is nothing he does not know) just do not mention torrents in the forums or you will get an evil message from administrators

Scratch that, I got it. Although I can't get the sound to work. I also can't get past the beginners dungeon. From what I can find, I need to get patch 2.13 because apparently the general consensus is "Frankly, the cheats are essential if you plan to win the game, or at the very least enjoy it."

Simply put.... THIS GAME PWNS! I somehow came across a copy of this back when I was somewhere around 12 stuck on a Navy base in West Virginia. Largest game EVER. Filled up my old man's 3 year tour there faster than I would have thought possible. Just amazing. I really wish more modern games would take some hints from their roots. Like the banking system, for one. Separate banks for each country... Each Actually earning interest independently of any others. That Is Brilliant.

Obviously there have been big flame wars... and i got a feeling im about to start one in my own mass effect torrent comment page.... here we are, getting people to play a freakin' DOS game on OS's that dont even have dos, and with only a few minor hiccups, you guys are doing awesome. Im glad this game is getting enjoyed, seriously. After 3 installations, the game finally works In fact, the game MUST BE installed in c:/dagger. Even if DFInstall let you choose the path, INSTALL IT IN c:/dagger ! So, if you ave weird errors like "return code = 0" or a crash when you choose your home land, it's likely from that !

I think I have everything working except for the configuration. When I try to change the dosbox.conf I get a message that says cannot create the file, make sure the path name is correct. I'm pretty sure that is the problem because dosbox tells me my configuration is wrong.

@ 007nikster2 "how do i install and play" has been the general discussion so far throughout this thread. as this is quite an aging game, there may be many answers to your question. i recommend reading this thread in it entirety and especially following the links to the step by step configuration of either dosbox or windows virtual machine ive provided for you. @ Ian176 one thing i found helped at times with dosbox (i wont lie and say i was ever 100% proficient with the program) was to look into some of the awesome dosbox frontends available out there. i believe that the dosbox site had a few options listed.

In AceFlyBye's DOSBox help do you have to put: mount c C:\Documents\DOS -freesize 512 mount d D:\ -t cdrom -ioctl c: in the dosbox.conf file or do you have to do something else

Hey there everyone. I want to sincerely thank the uploader of this great classic game. I totally agree with the things that are written in the description. Games aren't like old times now. In 90s everything was so fun and valuable. Nowadays games are like fast-food ****. Every month tens of clone games are realesed and none of them has the spirit neither the value of old school games. Man! Those were the days when roleplay gaming meant something. When I saw this post I was filled with nostalgia, and yes, I remember having played Daggerfall twice (the first time not completely because I got stuck due to a bug that was later fixed). After all that, I helped my daughter play it and finish it. Compelling story, that gripped your attention till the end! My greetings and thanks to Slashbak! I too light a candle for an era that I fear is dead.

My apologies about vista, you know, most of the releases i put out there i try to test on all platforms, this one however, i am not surprised at all that it will not work on that OS. If anyone however, finds a way to do it, let us know! Would be great! Oh, dur, donald, as im typing this, i remembered something. i wonder, did you try using a program called DOSbox at all? Lots of luck there, i believe thats how most people emulate dos environments, and ive used it to my great surprise, successfully quite a few times. Check it out, let us know!

alright well, few things, i have no idea your level of expertise here so excuse me if i'm being overly simple, but, included with the package is an .iso file. that's the CD image first-off. This established, you gotta use a program like daemon tools or power iso to mount that to a virtual CD drive. Secondly you can just burn the included iso to a real CD using nero or the like. Once this is established, make sure you're using the DFInstall program, this should find the CD, whether its in the real or virtual drive, and commence with installing.

Now, once you're installing with the CD, if youre using the DFInstall program, there's quite a few check boxes, use what you would like to. Most are not necessary to play but will make things easier. At this point, you should end up with a dagger shortcut on your desktop. Don't delete this shortcut, as playing the game from the dagger.exe will result most times in crashing on modern os's. The shortcut has a command line added to it that enables most of what you just did by modifying the game. At this point, enjoy. If game works perfectly, you're one of the lucky ones. If not, as i said earlier, go check out www.dosbox.com for the best option around. Lemme know how it goes sir!

this includes the 2.13 patch, which had a massive list of bugfixes. I wont lie to you and say i've tested em all myself, but hell, im playing the game on XP and i got a few buddies who play on vista, and we can keep playing as far as we've been able to get... I've tried everthing listed here and on the dosbox website and when I try to run the game I get an error in dosbox that says: Looks like you inserted the wrong cd. Please insert your Daggerfall cd in your cdrom drive and try again. This is after i have mounted the iso image as d and the installed game itself as c and tried to run dagger.exe Is there a way to get around this or will I have to resign myself to never getting the chance to play this game?

if youre using dosbox, 2 options. One, Dosbox's later versions have their own internal iso support. So it should be able to read the iso without mounting. Also, burn the iso to a cd! Its looking for it in a physical drive. Give it to it! Protip: http://vogons.zetafleet.com/ vogons means very old games on new systems. its a forum that will answer all.

@aceflybye, my thanks, in many ways for your help. people like you are the reasons i do what i do man. @celfious yeah, lol sorry... i didnt say this one was gonna be easy. seriously though, vogons is my best answer and definatly look at dosbox, because the simple sad facts are, this game is *so* old compared to modern hardware setups, there truly is no one guaranteed way i can explain to make this game work. what works for one, might not work with another hardware setup, since realistically the way most people run this is through an emulator which in turn emulates a runtime environment which is in turn emulating various old school pieces of hardware.... and cycle continues. if any one of those pieces are out of whack, it can cause problems.. all i can say is read, be patient and vogons. also, to the people having problems with stepping backwards, i had this too, has to do with processor being way too ridiculously fast for daggerfall. again, dosbox is the fix.

if push comes to shove try vmware man. emulate a whole new OS, thats actually an angle ive been debating on trying for all my older games that i have issues with like this. if ya cant make the OS work with your media, bring a new OS to it. vmware kicks ass like that.

Hey Slashbak. Thanks heaps for this torrent. All I did was unzip the iso file and dragged it onto the DFinstall and then i followed what Aceflybye said for sound config and ooohlalaa it worked! I'm running XP Home edition. So I guess I'll have to ask you again...do you know what you're meant to do to finish the game? I got the letter from that lady magnessan and met her but after that i have no idea what to do from there?

lol that is the glory of the elder scrolls series my friend. there isnt a *true* ending per se. @celfious if your explorations still dont work, be aware; the post i linked to earlier, the uesp one, has a walkthrough for getting this to work in a few different ways. slashbak great job! i've been looking for this game for years and thank god you're alive or i won't be able to play this game again, the game works great for my winxp home with sp3! but there seems to be a problem with the controls, for some reason i can't move backward and slide left and right, and its very difficult to swing the weapon any help or tips on this? anyways mighty fun fine job!

I have to greatly thank you... in fact i only signed up to thank you. I've been wishing to relive my childhood years and this was one of the games that I played... and played and played. I got it to run just fine on vista using dosbox... wow thank you for the site it went so smooth with it... So yes it can run on vista with dos box and sound even.. just gotta go slow and read the how to some one posted above! also I'm going to be seeding this for some time... i have around a 500Kb/s upload speed so get it.. and enjoy it... Thank you slashbak. Could you post some more classics i've downloaded all you have posted so far... - the psx ones... although ill be getting them for the heck of it ;-)

Start the installer: D:\install. Accept the license. Choose "Install the game to your hard drive". (Recommended) Change the installation size to "huge". Accept the installation directory (or change it according to your preference). Install. Wait. Configure sound: Choose "Auto-detect" and follow the prompts until detection is successful; test if desired. Choose "OK". Choose "Select MIDI" and choose "MPU-401" at port 330. Test if desired, then choose "OK". Choose "OK" to quit the sound configuration utility. Quit the Daggerfall installer. (Recommended) Apply the Daggerfall patch: In Windows, extract the patch (dag213.exe) to C:\Documents\DOS\dagger. In DOSBox, switch to Daggerfall's directory (default "dagger&quot and run dag213.exe. Answer yes to any prompts. Contrary to the installer's instructions, run Daggerfall by typing fall z.cfg. if you need any help to get dosbox to work post a comment ill keep track and help out if needed....
