Pera & The Dogs were a wild rock band started by Ile Kallio and his brother Pera in 1979. Ile had just been replaced by Albert Järvinen as guitarist for Hurriganes, who had failed to break internationally. Ile decided that the big break had to succeed with a new band. American-born Bill Carson became the drummer, and Maukka Siirala was hired as bassist. In 1979 they released the excellent single "I've Been Breakin' the Law / Man Are You Hungry?", and followed it with the album "Dogfood". The main songwriter was the mysterious "Big H" - actually British-born Harold Burgon, who had worked in the Finnish record industry as engineer. He was reputedly one of those too-clever-for-his-own-good smart alecks, and the ideas he used in the songs presented here were criticized for not quite gelling. Well, make up your own mind - personally I think The Dogs were a skillful band who managed to make the most out of his songs. The record buying public largely ignored them, and "Dogfood" flopped. The second album "Radiator" was done without Burgon, and also without Carson, who quit and was replaced with Jouni "Jyrtsä" Rautakoura. The name of the band was shortened to just The Dogs, but "Radiator" didn't fare any better commercially, and the band split. I've found Pera Kallio's debut solo single "Double Trouble / It's a Long Way Down" (1979), and added it to this post. Dogfood (1979): 1. Keep It Up Mrs. Jones 2. Disco Dumb Dumb 3. I've Been Breakin' the Law 4. Slippin' Through the Dragnet 5. Treadmill Traditions 6. Man, Are You Hungry? 7. Mon£y Machin£ 8. Brave New World 9. Critical Mass 10. I Can See Clearly Now Radiator (1980): 1. Tobacco Road 2. Hello People 3. Christine 4. You Better Stop 5. Mr. Tambourine Man 6. Dictators 7. Lost Paradise 8. Summertime Girls 9. Sister Rock'n'Roll 10. Jail Pera: Double Trouble / It's a Long Way Down (1979) http://finnishrock.blogspot.com/2008/06/pera-dogs.html

Dogfood did not flop at all it went platinum. It was also produced by Harold Burgon who refused to work ion second album leaving Finland along with Carsons to form their own group in UK. Obviously a smart alec but not too clever for his good ! Burgon now
