Yeah, I'm pretty sure the Holocaust was a result of Hitler being a psycho who was able to take advantage of war-torn post-WWI Germany.

"Being a psycho" is sort of selling it short, isn't it? It'd be a mistake not to recognize that Hitlers rise to power, and ability to stay there, was a great accomplishment. Whether due solely to his strengths, or the ability of his advisors, is another matter. However, on some level, the people who followed him also shaped the rhetoric. If there was no anti-semetic current in which to tap, selling jews as scapegoats would have been much harder than it proved to be. Thanks for another interesting book, Bitchtorrent.

Thanks, interesting book indeed. Couple of thoughts.. Suppose Hitler "did" the Jews in Germany and nothing else.. No WW II ? I don't think so. His motives were far deeper than just "anti-Semitism". Mussolini was the same more or less. Japan? I have a feeling that we are approaching a point where modern history books will tend to "describe" WW II as a war against the Jews and the proof is (undeniable) the Holocaust. Fascism, racism, anti-communism and the millions of dead people all over the world, will come in second to the Holocaust. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_II_casualties

Well naturally, the spin on history is always in effect, depending on where you get your information. It's like the old Hollywoodised idea that the United States came riding in on their white horse to save democratic Europe, when most of the fighting was done by the Soviets. Which in turn suggests a whole other scenario should Hitler not have chosen to open a front against Russia. The margins of victory were very, very small.
