Sound interering this. Just one question. 1. Rename USB stick through file HPUSBFW.exe and format with FAT file system. Rename to what? Or that doesn't matter?

The label does not matter. However...I cant get it to work anyway, says Missing Operating Systems. I figured out that you have to extract the ISO to the stick...or do you suppose to boot on that ISO and install it from the disc? When formatting with the HP utility... only format or format with systemfiles?

Enyone got this working. First I just copy the files but not booting. Extracted the files too but not booting.

didn't work for me. Seems this USB edition is using BARTPE. Not really recommended because there is a risk it won't work. So if you don't want to wipe your USB stick & then to realize after that it didn't work, don't bother downloading this I would only recommend this to those who knows a lot about computers etc... But thanks for taking your time and uploading this bro, all you releases are great! :D Last note: Don't use this USB edition if you don't want to shorten your USB-sticks life expectancy.

Done that, will boot to DOS form USB but how to load the XP? Many qustions, I hope you can answer them

To Solve the problems everyone is having, simply follow this improved instructions : This is what you need : -USB stick with 256 MB capacity. 512 MB Recommended. -A system that supports booting from Usb stick. -Download these DOS files : http://any-server.com/xp-install-from-pendrive/solution.rar and extract them to "C:\Dos" Installation : 1. Format the USB Stick through file HPUSBFW.exe with FAT file system. Give it whatever name you want. 1.1. Don't forget to select the option "Create DOS Startup disk", and choose the folder you extracted the DOS files (C:\Dos). 1.2. When format is ready, perform the next step. 2. Copy all the files from a folder on USB stick. Start : 1. Reboot the computer. 2. In BIOS or through Quick-boot menu choose boot from the USB. I hope it helps !!

It starts in C:\dos from the USB. Then something must be done to let it (auto)start XP and that I can't figured out yet. It's a shame to admit that pendrivelinux is the best alternative right now for start a computer from USB.

To all the people who still having trouble installing it. It is very very easy to get it working. forget about that weird "Rename USB" comment which i don't understand myself. Here is how it is done: *1. Format the USB stick using HPUSBFW.exe to FAT file system. (Don't use the Windows built-in format as it doesn't work, the USB stick won't be bootable) 2. Copy the 4 files (ntldr, NTDETECT.COM, winnt.sif, bartpe.iso) to the USB stick. 3. Change the boot sequence in the BIOS so that the USB stick will shoot up first. ('Boot from other devices' must also be enabled i think) 4. You're done, walla! a castrated version of windows will be running from your USB stick. * The "Create DOS Startup disk" chkbox must NOT be selected if you want the BartPE windows. Only select it if you want a bootable DOS USB stick! (and in this case you'll need a DOS source, like floppy or WinImage) have fun.

OK, it seems to work no problem, but is this really XP? What can I actually do with it? Nero? Office? How would I install drivers for my WiFi card? Is it any real use?

Or you can go with that HP format tool which can also be run from here, following the excellent advice on this page. Whatever, it's a pretty bloody versatile app this one. It has a gazillian USB format/booting options and features, including for Linux distros.

Can I ask again, besides copying stuff from one drive to another, can this OS actually do anything? CD burner? Internet? Word? I know it's way bigger, but something like knoppix might be useful where this is just a gimmick.

I guess another issue I am encountering is that the bartpr.iso is over 1gb! So the USB drive has to be at least 2gb. I could not get it to fit into my 1gb USB. Dont know how others are doing with 256 & 512 drives?
