The group&#039;s original line-up was Dave Gahan (lead vocals), Martin Gore (keyboards, guitar, vocals, chief songwriter after 1981), Andrew Fletcher (keyboards) and Vince Clarke (keyboards, chief songwriter 1980�81). Vince Clarke left the band after the release of their 1981 debut album, and was replaced by Alan Wilder (lead keyboards) who was a band member from 1982 to 1995. Following Wilder&#039;s departure, Gahan, Gore, and Fletcher have continued as a trio. Depeche Mode are one of the longest-lived, most successful and influential bands to have emerged from the New Romantic and New Wave era. They have had forty-five songs in the UK Singles Chart (giving them more charting singles without a #1 hit than any other artist), as well as one US and two UK #1 albums. According to their record company, Depeche Mode have sold over 72 million records worldwide. A Broken Frame is Depeche Mode&#039;s second proper studio album and was released on September 27, 1982. This record was written in the absence of Vince Clarke after his departure to form Yazoo with singer Alison Moyet. Alan Wilder was part of a second tour in the United Kingdom occurring prior to the release of this album, but he had not officially joined the band, and thus, does not appear on the album. It uses more digital music technology compared to their other albums. It was produced by Mark Bell of Björk and LFO fame. It also had several songs which became big hits in clubs, like "I Feel Loved". The album also launched the Exciter Tour, which was one of the band&#039;s most successful tours. It was supported by the Touring the Angel tour.The album is the first of Depeche Mode&#039;s to feature Dave Gahan as co-writer: three of the tracks ("Suffer Well", "I Want It All" and "Nothing&#039;s Impossible") had their lyrics written by the singer, while Christian Eigner and Andrew Phillpott wrote the music on these. Gahan is the lead singer on all songs except for the instrumental "Introspectre", and Gore-sung tracks "Macro" and "Damaged People". Gahan also sings backing vocals on "Macro", which was the first time he had sung backing on one of Gore&#039;s songs since Violator&#039;s "Sweetest Perfection". Track list 1.
