rapportato pi&ugrave; volte nel corso della sua carriera, dal montaggio effettuato per il celebre Woodstock all'episodio Dal mali al Mississipi diretto per il ciclo The Blues, da New York, New York - con Robert De Niro e Liza Mannelli - a L'ultimo valzer.<br /> <br /> Gi&agrave; Woodstock - Tre giorni di pace, amore e musica (di Wadleigh) documentario sul pi&ugrave; grande raduno di musica rock della storia, svoltosi nell'agosto del 1969 a Benthnal, nello Stato di New York, aveva rappresentato la quintessenza e l'apoteosi del cosiddetto &quot;rockumentary&quot;, prodotto dell'intreccio -sempre pi&ugrave; pervasivo- tra establishment cinematografico e industria discografica. Ricco di suggestioni sul piano storico-sociologico, Woodstock ha certamente influito sulle soluzioni registiche che Scorsese ha poi adottato ne L'ultimo valzer, realizzato alla Winteerland Arena di San Francisco il 25 novembre del 1976.<br /> <br /> L'occasione, veramente unica per gli amanti del rock, &egrave; l'ultima esibizione, prima del definitivo scioglimento, del complesso nordamericano &quot;The Band&quot;, storico gruppo di supporto di Bob Dylan composto da Rick Danki, Levon Helm, Garth Hudson, Richard Manuel e Robbie Robertson (chitarra solista e canto).<br /> Con 16 macchine da presa in 35mm e 24 piste sonore, il regista italo-americano immortala l'evento, inserendovi in fase di montaggio frammenti di interviste ai componenti della band e tre numeri musicali, girati in un secondo momento in un teatro di posa.<br /> <br /> Il racconto degli esordi e degli anni vissuti insieme in tourn&egrave;es fYears da contrappunto alle canzoni che la Band esegue in duetto con gli amici e i collaboratori di sempre: Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Eric Clapton, Joni Mitchell, Ringo Starr, Neil Diamond e Van Morrison.<br /> La gerarchia che vuole l'immagine dominare sulla componente sonora di un film viene completamente soverchiata ne L'ultimo valzer: l'abilit&agrave; registica di Scorsese &egrave; tutta al servizio della celebrazione del ritmo e della melodia, sebbene l'atmosfera sia pervasa da una palese nostalgia.
