the quality on these are great but you could get almost the same quality using half the bitrate(it would be hard to tell the difference. the files are unnecessarily large. that is why they make hour long shows(40 min) 1.1 gigs. still if you dont mind the wait excellent show

You will notice the difference on larger screens on scenes with high contrast ratios. BSG is of those shows with a lot of that. Saying Xvid 700meg file has same quality as DVD's is fine if you are watching them on a TV or small monitor. But the higher your resolution, the picture becomes much clearer. Those very small FLV files look great when watching them in a small window but when you zoom em up... Thats where bitrates show the difference... In many countries they use very bad quality copies... I always wondered how they could watch them and its because they havent watched DVD's like I had for 10 years before. To them, it did not make much difference... To me they were unwatchable.. Of course I dont have a 50inch plasma to see this quality.. But if I did, I would get this rather than the smaller files just to show it off... Heck even at these bitrates its not close to original HDTV quality..

bro, what the hell is up with the mpeg4 advanced? It plays on my pc, but there is no way to get it on my 360,which is connected to my hdtv, without encode. Motherfuckers, use a better profile next time.

Alright, I hate to sound retarded here.. But I've only played the 700 meg .AVI files before. Before I jump headfirst into the HD stuff, I need to know if my machine could support it. 1.7 Ghz AMD single core. GeForce 4200 Ti w/ AGP 8x. Substandard shit, I know, but it still gets me by. You guys think it could pull it off?

^ not on fast action scenes... I had a 1.9 Barton with a 6600GT on AGP 8x and it barely played any type of x264 720p at 70-95% CPU load.

I'm watching Episode 1, 33 Minutes, now and the quality is very good. Screenres of 1280x1024 and on 1600x1200. As for the needed hardware to play 720p without any problems you need to check out the Bus speed of your Mobo-CPU. If this is a low number than you won't be able to play it without any stuttering in image and sound. Massive video lag is normal. I'm using a Slot 939 Mobo with a AMD 3000+ 64Bit cpu on it. Busspeed of 1000Mhz. Nvidia 7900 ( I have look it up which model excactly) on it. AGP model. But I played 720p on a 6600 model too without problems on the same pc as now. Make sure you got a good Mobo to play 720p, or 1080p, video sources. Last thing. I don't use VLC or MP Classic to watch my 720p videos but XP Media Center 2005. Heavier overhead on that system but plays it as it should including any subs that might present. Season 2+3 in 720p would be nice on an open tracker so I don't have to sigh up to some stupid tracker where I need to bloody donate to get warez.

I know the first season is available on HD-DVD but I have found nothing for blu-ray. I don't think it's available on Blu-ray or HD-DVD. The files are double normal 720p size for mkv's. Looks like it's a higher bitrate (double?) than the normal weekly HD720p downloads. Sweet.
