STORY: Marie and Baptiste exist on the margins of Parisian society, and are both homeless. By chance (Marie), or by fate (Baptiste) they uncover a sinister plot involving Marie&#039;s lover Julien, and a group of powerful and shadowy figures called &#039;the Max&#039;. The key to the plot is a spiderweb or snail design from a children&#039;s game which can be overlaid on a map of Paris. In an attempt to solve the mystery their trajectory spirals outwards from the city center with its great monuments and boulevards to a world of street markets, deserted train stations and suburban wastelands, and eventually converges on the North Bridge. "Le pont du nord" is one of Rivette&#039;s darker films exploiting the same vein of paranoia as was present in the earlier "Paris est a nous". The ambiguous nature of the threat is never resolved, but it has real and tragic consequences. Rivette&#039;s special ability is to make this ambiguity resonate within us, so that we find our own emotional interpretation. The score combines city sounds with eruptions of Piazzolla&#039;s tango music (Libertango, Violentango). The avi is a Karagarga rip from a Japanese DVD.
