Techie Question: I had to re-format my puter and backed up all my axxo movie files but I failed to keep the .nfo files. Now I can't even see any files on the backup disks. Any way to save them?

@ 13 nfo file is just information about the torrent itself, the uploaders name and other information, @12 I was not aware you needed to keep the nfo files, it is seperate to the avi file, did you check the disc's after you backed them up, and what did you use to back them up ?

@ 15 Hi Marcus, The disks were working fine prior to the re-format (Windows XP). I could both see the files and play them. I burned them to DVD disks using Ashampoo's Burning Studio 7. However, since the re-format my DVD R/W refuses to read them ... Explore shows an empty drive. Yet all my other disks work. I have installed the DivX codec, re-installed my video drivers, re-installed my motherboard drivers, ran multiple system scans, updated all programs and operating system files ... I have run out of ideas. I was almost hoping that someone would say "without the nfo files, there is no hope" so I could accept the loss and stop banging my head on my keyboard. lol I appreciate that this is not a support area and I apologize if I am abusing the comments area. I just don't know who to ask or what to try next. *sigh*

You don't need the .nfo files. I rarely even read them. I just delete them.

@NorthenJoy, you mention that you have installed all mother board driver, and Divx Video but did you re-install the same Ashampoo program as to the one you burned the cd with? I know this is a shot in the dark, but maybe the formart from the back up has to be exactly the same? so I would install Ashamppo, check the cd, then copy the cd to HDD, and maybe burn as a plain data file. I have tried Ashampoo once, and will never try it again. Regcheck from Ashamppo as well as defrag gave me a format. Good luck. PS: nope you do not need the NFO files, as I back my Axxa collection onto a portable HDD and remove all the files appart from the actual AVI file.

Hi Northernjoy, seems like you have done just about all you could with no luck so far, I could be wrong about the nfo, but I have burnt without the nfo and had no drama's, I used to burn with nero, but now I just use divx player and burn from there, the advantage of doing it that way is you can just send them back to the hard drive by loading the disc and right clicking and select send to, well you send them to my documents and from there you can get them to any drive you want, also that way at least you can play them in a stand alone divx player, sorry i could not help solve your problem, they have to be there some where, good luck hope some else can guide you in the right direction, CHEERS.

A special thank you to Marcus and movenova for your kind encouragement. I tried loading the files from the DivX Player and from Ashampoo's Burning Studio with no luck. The bottom line is that my puter is not seeing the files on the disks for whatever reason. They are just blank. When I insert the disk into the drive, the drive reads for a good 45 seconds and stops. When I tried to right click the drive in Explore to send, Explore froze for the same length of time and then stopped. No error messages. It's gotta be missing a setting or file on this computer ... aka needle in a haystack. I also thank you for the .nfo info. When I first posted I was thinking "maybe it's the missing .nfo files?". Now I know that they can be safely ****ed. Thanks. I did notice that DivX has a community board. Maybe someone there has heard of this problem before. So it turns out you may have gotten me headed in the right direction. Thanks again. Joy

@NorthernJoy maybe you have installed an incorrect driver? after you re-formatted your pc it could have messed up and installed an incorrect driver. just google your drive model like, sony nnn-nnn driver. something should help there. good luck.

@ Marcus62, I am sure that Ashampoo has some nice programs on the go, however, in my personal venture with this product I have had to much go wrong then right. It could be me, as they say, the computer only runs as well as the handler is using it..... But I also know, that with some programs, if you have burned it say with something like Nero, which is a fab program, but you forgot to close the bisc, you can not run it on anything else bar the system you burned the disc on.....maybe some other computer but not on a DVD player or something like that. So my thought was install the same version of Ashapoo, then see if this will open the files.

I have another question though, for Axxo or indeed any of his many fans. Can anyone point me in the right direction for Under Capricorn, Alfred HiTcHC@ck film?? I have found the Utorrent file1.3 gig, but can not get the file to play with anything....Apparently it is a Quicktime file. But no program has managed to open it for me. I would be great full to anyone who has this for download, or knows of a good download, or maybe Axxo has this file? I have looked at his complete list and it is not there. Thanks in advance.

@ movenova, Hey I agree with you about Ashampoo just trying the anti virus put me off, I use AVG 8.0 on my XP based computer and bitdefender on the Vista based one, I know what you are saying about burning with certain programs and such, what I meant about burning with divx player is if you lose them on your pc it is really easy to get them back on the pc from the disc, right click and you have the option to send them to my documents, then from there you can move them to where ever you want on your pc, but it would seem northernjoy is having no joy at all. great as usal just wondering the last 2 films I downloaded frm AXXO were good copys as allways but the film 21 at times looked out of sync I use convertx 2 dvd and burn it with that 2 and the oter film was pathology again good copy but this time with it it was like the camera was a bit slow I dont usally have problems with axxos rips at all and I have got a codec pack but it just seems 2 sit there any help would b grat and cheers axxo

SORY MATE BUT THE DISC IS PROBALLY A LOST CAUSE!!! AS FOR AXXO HE OR SHE IS DEFINATELY THE BEST FOR FILMS IVE TREID THE REST AND THEYRE NOT EVEN CLOSE. 10/10 EVERYTIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
