Socialism / Communism has only killed 350 million people since 1921, I bet though, with a few more trys, we can get that number up, way up! It doesn't work, wanna know why? People like to own stuff. It is that simple, 5 words, strung together coudl have saved 350 million people from death and an untold number of others living in misery.

soviet/chinese brand communism doesn't work because it's not true communism. you can't effect mass cultural changes overnight, especially not through violent coercion. and communism was never realized in either instance as there was still a huge disparity in wealth between different social classes. however, communism has been achieved in small communes where people share the same altruistic ideals. socialism has also been adopted with great success all around the world. public education is a form of socialism, so is universal health care, workers compensation, or any other public service/institution funded by tax dollars. if you don't like socialism and living in cooperation with others, then move to some desert island by yourself where you don't have to contribute to shared social infrastructure.

All of those who doens't aggree with Marx's ideas gives some arguments to it. The first I saw here is about death of people in the name of an ideal. Well, and how many people has capitalism killed? Go back since the discover of the New World, the extermination of almost all native american people and culture (and remember that America is not only US, but the whole continent). Math togheter all World Wars, the wars that USA has started, much of them against socialism (Vietnam for instance). Remember the biggest terrorist attack in the world? Yes, the Hiroshima-Nagasaki bomb, which didn't had an military target and killed more than 100,000 civilians in a blink of an eye, and continued to kill and harm much more with the radiation. Killing is a part of the nature of survival. It has reached a strange place in humanity path until now, much for the both over and under rating of lives (not only human). It is not and ideal that kills people, but the intention of the people which decides to do so.

There is people saying about the cultural and economic nature of socialism (like 'mastermind', a little too sure of himself). Socialism treats people like ants? I do not see and argument to that. Have you lived in a socialist country, or ever visited one? Have you met any people from a socialist country? And ever bothered to ask him a question (instead of giving your misleading opinions)? Well, if I relate 'mastermind' opinions with 'hielo999' opinions i can put an idea togheter. 'Mastermind' says 'socialism treats people like ants' and 'hieloo999' says 'people like to own stuff'. Well, did you two ever think about the true nature of this desire? Or is it comes from the mindwash that mass media and consumerism culture has got into people? How does 'free will' fits in this kind of massificated culture? I guess some reading wouldn't harm yourselves. Marx acctually writes about capitalism, points out some pros and cons as a economic and national system, and then develop an theorethical alternative to it. He lived before socialism could ever install in the world political schema. If he was still living, I bet he would write a lot about the way socialism is lead in many political movements, giving as well pros and cons and coming up with some alternatives and solutions. People misunderstand too socialism and communism. One is a political approach, and the other is a way of living. Socialism and anarchism are two different ways to achieve Communism. Socialism chooses an transition by the hands of government. Anarchism believs that the issue is in the supremacy of governments over peoples lives, so it chooses to deny any governmental power and carry the igualitary social structure of Communism by the power of the people.

Y'all don't like socialism, then avoid websites where property is re-distributed on a 'for need' basis (well almost for some parts of the world where net access etc.. is widespread). In addition when giving out about Marx, socialism or whatever, know enough to know: (1) Marx wrote a critique of the existing society and an analysis of where he saw it going - he did not, for the most part, produce a set of policy prescriptions or a blueprint for a new society - doing so would have been quite at odds with what he was about and he criticised socialists would did do this. Consequently treating Marx as if this is what he did do merely serves to undermine any actual substantive argument you might have. (2) Know that someone who includes 'anarcho' in her/his username is most likely not a fan of the Soviet Union.

Marx himself was not an fanatic, he once said that he is not an marxist. He accepted arguments form critics and even changed parts of his writings. Later it was Lenin who made the dogmatic militarist ideology of communism wich lead to the creulty of the sovietregime I am not an marxist but i think that Marx analysis of the capitalist society is still today very interesting and fascinating. So read the Books and build your own opinion instead of repeating the arguments of the mass media.
