He died in 1977, almost certainly poisoned by his own home-made hooch.

Fowler's legacy is his book. The Cotswolds publisher David Burnett has laboured tirelessly to bring it to the wider audience that it so richly deserves, and he is succeeding big-time. Burnett expected to sell a few hundred copies of the book over a couple of years: instead he sold 1,000 on the first day of publication, and more than 10,000 since. The market analyst Mintel credits Countryman's Cooking with helping to inspire a boom in sales of venison, pheasant and grouse, and there is even talk of a dramatised version of Fowler's life: “I think Colin Firth in a moustache would be perfect,” says Burnett...

Toni Richards, who knew him for more than 30 years and who was his wife for 12, is a feisty 85 now and still carries a torch for the love of her life: “He was so bloody handsome it wasn't true,” she says. “I loved him to bits, but he was a bastard with women. He simply loved women, and women loved him.”
It will come as no surprise to you that the BBC has chosen Leslie Phillips to read extracts from Fowler's book. Inspired. Absolutely inspired...( The Times Newspaper )
Five episodes of 15 minutes each read by Leslie Philips.

Episode 1: Of Pigeon and Pastry
Fowler takes you through each step of the preperation process, from shooting, skinning and gutting to the cooking of the actual dish.

Episode 2: Rook, Cormorant and Christmas
A recipe for an alternative roast dinner.

Episode 3: Of Poultry and Poison
Willie realises that the jolly, bucolic animal-loving Farmer Giles is a myth.

Episode 4: Salmon and the Salad Queen
Willie considers salad, one of those hurdles which clutter up everyone's path through life.

Episode 5: Of Gin and Soft-Soap
Willie reveals why kissing the pastry-maker too early can be disastrous.
_______________________

Type : mpeg 1 layer III
Bitrate : 128
Mode : joint stereo
Frequency : 48000 Hz
Encoder : Lame 3.96
_______________________

Ubuntu+MythTV+LAME+DVB-T=MP3 http://cheops.fm
http://radioarchive.cc - the Spoken-Word Radio Torrent Archive
