About the Artist
"Spirit House" draws on many diverse influences - Chinese, Vietnamese and Nepalese folk melodies, the sounds of Asian Orchestras and the rhythms of metropolitan dance floors. Drawing on the talents of musicians such as Hsin Hsiao Hung, Hong Kong's #1 Erhu (Chinese violin) player, Nepalese classical trio Sur Sudha, and world renowned jazz guitarist Eugene Pao, to name but a few, the music is a collage of many different styles: a sampled `70's funk groove loops beneath a timeless Erhu folk melody underscored by modern digital synth architecture; a 1930's Shanghai song segues into a Kathmandu Raga; sampled voice bytes from news broadcasts compete with dialogue from 1940's movies and a floating jazz guitar, an Irish folk melody is played on a traditional Chinese Zheng, with `80's analog synths and dub echo effects bubbling underneath; sound effects of trains, helicopters, bicycles, people on the move, fade in and out of the ever present hypnotic, trance like rhythms...
Product Description
The first album from Celestial, Hong Kong's ambient dub masters: - it's empyreal and exotic, East meets West, dreamy Asian electronica... On "Spirit House" the music reflected an East-West consciousness; an ethereal, trance-like soundtrack to a hip urban Zen Garden. First released in 1996, the album also reflects the pre-1997 cosmopolitan turmoil that was Hong Kong, and has now been re-released with a new sleeve design.
This CD is my all time favorite new age. -it / celestial , was on the cutting edge of new age with this their contribution.
my original was lost in the Andes mountains of Equador where Im sure it has duplicated many times, and playing in
a place where the vistas seem aprapos to the outstanding melodies of Celestial, and duely being appreciated by the highly spiritual Indians of this magic part of our planet. -This CD can take you to fabulous
places, -where ever you may be.
Peter Millward is a genius connecting East & West, Flesh & Soul, Universe & Heart.
When I first heard this album I couldn't stop listening. Peter's three CD's are always with me when I'm traveling all over the world in my job.
It's the start of my day and the soothing breeze before I close my eyes at night.
Please, take your time to explore the mind of a very unique mind of music and understanding of how the world and humans are connected.
What A Trip!, June 12, 2006
Reviewer: Max Chipchase
I was first introduced to Celestial but a friend,... And I've been grateful to him ever since!

Anyone who is a fan of downtempo and ambient electronica is bound to enjoy this. It's a superb fusion of East and West, mixing in traditional Eastern instruments with dubbed out beats and in the process creating a delightful soundscape to any chilled evening.

Highly recommended!
No-confusion fusion, June 11, 2006
Reviewer: Brian Hu (Hong Kong)
I bought this CD when it was first released in Hong Kong. I wasn't a big fan of Asian tunes but this CD made me change my mind about fusion music. Celestrial draw their inspirations from a wide variety of East West styles as well as instruments, and they have done an excellent job in putting them together.

Some of the tracks are hip, mixing electronica with traditional Chinese musical instruments, while others take you to a far away journey. This is a cool CD to own and I've played it many times espeically with my friends during evenings of get togethers.
This CD knocked my socks off. I just couldn't believe how good it was. Every single track had something special to offer. Not deep, not soulful just sensual.
This is one CD that I listen to often and am looking for more by this(these) artist(s). I enjoy the emotive quality of the Indo-Chinese elements of sitar, Vietnamese instruments and voice, particularly in the first cut VIETNAM.
