  Although there were some criticisms of Simon Armitage's adaptation of Homer's Odyssey when it was aired several years ago, I enjoyed it as excellent radio drama.<br /> <br /> Janet Whitaker always directs interesting work, and the cast, particularly Tim McInnerny and Amanda Redman, is superb.<br /> <br /> Simon Armitage's adaptation is far from stuffy, and to my ear, very well suited to the radio drama format. As his publisher's blurb has it, &quot;The Odyssey is a book of changes, and Simon Armitage's retelling of Homer's epic quickens and revitalizes our sense of it as oral poetry: as indeed one of the greatest of tall tales.
