cudzich09: yeah. ubuntu sees Xp on your hdd and and wont rule over it unless you want to. then when you start you computer it asks you where to go, xp or ubuntu.

Ubuntu is the **** and anyone that says otherwise is either an idiot or they don't know how to use it ( _xii_....) once you install it type "sudo apt-get install compiz" and "sudo apt-get install compiz config" to get all the cool desktop visuals if this version doesn't already come with them..

I'm building myself a new computer and the only problem is i don't want to pay $100+ on a Windows OS. I've only heard good things about Ubuntu (at least from people who know what they're talking about). My computer will be almost strictly media playing, is there another Linux OS that's suited for media playing? Thanks. On another note. What are the 2 files besides the .iso for? Never seen them before. Thanks.

Club17, if you're getting BSoDs in XP, you're doing something wrong. (Like not updating) XP (and 2000 for that matter) are some of the most stable operating systems available for PCs. Ubuntu is a very good operating system but for those comfortable with XP, I'd stay with XP. If you are considering a Vista upgrade (downgrade) you might want to consider Ubuntu. Vista is garbage. Windows XP/2000 (if yours is updated, you shouldn't have any problems, unless it's an ID-10 class T error) > Ubuntu > Windows *. I've used (and programmed) computers for quite a bit longer than ___xiii___ has been using them as well.

10x For the upload...i really appreciate it oh and in my opinion Ubuntu is the best linux-desktop interface and is so user-friendly that even my parents use it... no OS has such a community like ubuntu has : they actualy help you to get started and get pro if u what to..it's free and it's safe so ... get it try it and see it for your selfs... if you what just turn back you your blame OLD windotz u're free to do that!? right? This is my first try using Linux, so please bear with me... I started up the DVD, but it appears that Ubuntu can only be booted from the DVD and not permanently installed to the Hard Drive. I want to completely ditch my Windows XP and let Ubuntu take over. Am I just completely missing something, or is this not an option on the DVD? All the installation guide I look at (including the one posted above) instruct to click on options that I don't even see on my DVD menu (ex: click "Install in Text Mode"... definitely not seeing it. Any help here? Thanks for the help, Doug P.S. Ultimate Edition has been updated up to 1.9 by now. Would it be wiser to just download that, or is it easily updatable after installing this disc? What's the difference anyways?

That's my 1st posting by the way... been using the site for while tough. Anyway.. I've never used Linux OS, but I've alway regonize that they are and have always been the BEST OS.
