2008-11-16 16:14 CET by dakorean123 (thepiratebay.org)hey guys. i was wondering if anyone cud help me with a problem im having with this game. so heres the story. a while back i downloaded a working version of ff8 and i played til disc 3 i actually think i downloaded from this torrent :) so anyway my computer started to act kinda funny one day so i burned the disc images on to discs in case my computer crashed. then as expected, my computer did crash. so then i had to reinstall windows and all the settings i had previously blah blah blah. i also reinstalled ff8 with my newly burned disc and gameplay seemed to be normal. but now im on disc 2 and i seem to have run into a problem. im towards the end of the disc right b4 the great battle b/t balamb and galbadia garden. and i kno a cutscene is supposed to occur as i approach galbadia garden located in the south west part of centra continent by edeas house. but when i approach it, no cutscene occurs. i tried entering a different city, saving, restarting and trying again, but no matter wat i do nothing worked thus far. so then i assumed that the disc 2 or install disc images were damaged when i burned them onto the discs a while back. so i downloaded disc 2 and the install disc from another torrent. i downloaded install disc cuz i thought maybe i cud reinstall the game and the scene wud work... but it didnt :[ i mounted each of the images via alcohol120% and started up the game again and tried to activate the scene once again but i still cudnt get it to work. ive run out of ideas so im askin u guys for help. is there a way to get this to work without having to start a new file or completely uninstalling everything and reinstalling the game? thx in advance

2008-11-23 06:28 CET by maxvincent112 (thepiratebay.org)i am having trouble this game i cant seem to load the right disc i followed all the suggestions and i came across something that is not mentioned once. when mounting the img files for all discs the files show that there is no other img in side the original img rars these are direct copies of the real game discs and nothing more i just started using linux and that was my first lesson how to tell if the disc you are dling is a ripped iso or the real image of the disc you want to use and these discs are real images of the discs i found a copy of the game at my teachers house and made images of them and it is the exact same thing nothing is amiss. i just dont want to waste dvd of cd-r's for something like this if any one has burned them to disc please tell me if the game will run

2009-01-13 19:22 CET by Tunkasz (thepiratebay.org)I know hot to fix the LAGG in the game. It was just a accident that i found it but god wanted to be. When you start FF8 and loaded your saved game or just starting a new one , after you skipped the intro or any vidz, do a ALT+TAB and start a new video game in the back something wich is wondows compatible game ( I usually starting C.C Read alert 2, Alt_tab and starting the FF8 and Viola no lagg) i dont know why but its not lagging for me. But someone tell me HOW THE HELL CAN I TURN DOWN THE MUSIC IN THE GAME? BECAUSE THERE IS NO ANY OTHER OPTIONS !!! or just i'm the noob. - so for the lagg, just star something different game in the back and ff8 won't lagg...for me -

2009-01-30 19:54 CET by slandz (thepiratebay.org)I've followed just about every piece of advice given on this forum and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get the game to not say "please insert disc 1." I've change the registry and I've tried mounting just about every possible option. Can someone please give me like a ridiculous step by step in vivid detail explanation of how to get this game running?
-
2009-01-30 19:54 CET by slandz (thepiratebay.org)Oh my email is al825ex@gmail.com. Thanks

2009-04-05 18:28 CET by donavon_bray (thepiratebay.org)For the disk problem, click START, then RUN, and type REGEDIT You might have to do some searching to locate final fantasy viii, but all you need to do is find the registry log that tells the game which drive to run in. in this case it will say E: and you will just erase it and type J: or K: whichever your virtual drive is listed as. It's as simple as that. Sorry for the weird description. I just woke up and was looking for a graphics fix and came across that question.
-
2009-04-05 18:32 CET by donavon_bray (thepiratebay.org)Actually, click start, then run, type REGEDIT When it comes up, click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE then SOFTWARE then Square Soft Inc then Final Fantasy VIII then 1.0 Look at the documents on the right side now and locate the one titled "DataDrive" On here, Just replace the E: with whatever letter drive you use (as in J: or K: ), mount the disc, and run the game.

2009-04-16 21:39 CET by Reycom (thepiratebay.org)Need seeders, I'm looking at a 2 year leach time.
-
2009-04-20 20:15 CET by Reycom (thepiratebay.org)K I got it working, which is awesome. BUT every 10 -30 minuets the game "has stopped working." the reason the APP crashed. Any way to fix that?
-
2009-05-24 01:20 CET by 1MP3R1US (thepiratebay.org)I'm just now trying to pick this up. It's the weekend so its gonna be slow. I hope it picks up at some point or it will take 2 yrs by which I am sure this PC will no longer be functional haha.
-
2009-06-12 23:55 CET by olsson818 (thepiratebay.org)i downloaded this for abut a year ago, then i didnt get it to wok with mounting, and i still doesent. tho back then it worked perfectly if i burned them. but now when i dont use a cd, it asks me to put in 1, and when i do, it crashes. any1 have any ideas? i tried to upade drivers and all that

Apr 02 2008 at 00:11 by Shivan666 (mininova.org)Refer to these comments to get your game working, do it in this order. Install: #16 Playing the game: #19 and maybe #25. #19 i needed because it defaulted to F for me, when the mounting drive as actually H. #25 was done as a precaution. Before you play: #26 important fact, on later video cards, only the cut-scenes and battle scenes look good, the rest are kind of messed up. *NOTE* this install works, i got the game working by following these posts.

Apr 04 2008 at 22:10 by gwbbrainwash (mininova.org)You guys said "Mount the install iso" WHAT iso? I dont have an iso file in the install disc Zip file. I have four different files and I dont know which one to use on my daemon tools and how.

-
Apr 08 2008 at 11:46 by NoobSezFuq (mininova.org)I've had it working for quite a while now, but the game always lags and now, when Squall is about to listen to Quistis complain about being fired as an instructor, the game crashes. Always. Bad. So help please. ?
-
Apr 08 2008 at 11:50 by NoobSezFuq (mininova.org)By the way, for all those people who have a hard time getting past the dreaded 'Insert Disc 1' sign, one good way is to burn the stuff onto a CD. That's how I did it... but I could be wrong 'cause it lags all the time and crashes. Not sure if Daemon Tools can burn though. I used PowerISO since they were the ones who started with ISO's anyway.
-

Apr 16 2008 at 23:21 by the-line (mininova.org)These posts are all over the place and even though i managed to pick out the key points im guessing some others still wont have, here's what i did, my unofficial guide, i hope it helps. I run windows XP Comment is too long... see next post
-
Apr 16 2008 at 23:23 by the-line (mininova.org)- press Start > Run > type "regedit" open this key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Square Soft, Inc\FINAL FANTASY VIII\1.00 and change the "DataDrive" into the drive letter that daemon tools creates when you mount an image (in my case I had to change it from D: to E - extracted "FF8 Disc 1" onto hard drive and mounted the image, run the game from the start menu programs - changed the video options to software renderer (checked the default controls while i was at it) and started the game - Presto, works as good as my old PS1 copy.. better actually cos mine died on the last disc and I never got to complete it. I'm hoping I'll get to finish it this time.

Aug 11 2008 at 17:14 by GaijinBrian (mininova.org)dunno if this will help but: I'm running a Vista 32bit Home w/ Nvidia card. I mounted "Final Fantasy 8 CD 1.cue" with Daemon Tools Lite 4.30.1 as my K: drive. (Desktop\FF8\FF8 Disc 1\Final Fantasy 8 CD 1.cue)...I'm sure it doesn't matter where it is and renaming it to "DISC1" obviously wasn't one of the problems) And all the files like ff8.exe, FF8_Launcher.exe, binkw32.dll are here: C:\Program Files\Eidos Interactive\Square Soft, Inc\FINAL FANTASY VIII\ So i never had to move ff8.exe or binkw32.dll. Hope this helps some people! Thanks Yokohama4Life and the rest of you for the ideas and links!
-
Aug 11 2008 at 17:14 by GaijinBrian (mininova.org)SUCCESS!!! i've been stuck like most everyone here on the wrong disc error all night and have something else for you to try that just worked for me! After having your disc mounted and nothings working to fix the disc error try 'right clicking' the ff8.exe & the FF8_Launcher.exe, go to properties. click the tab that says compatibility and at the bottom check the box that says "Run this program as an administrator". Even though i'm the administrator on my computer and have the only account, that wasn't checked and didn't work til i tried that.

Aug 15 2008 at 01:29 by the_skdster (mininova.org)Hi. I am having trouble getting the game to FULLY install. I am double-mounting the Install CD on Daemon Tools. Using XP pro SP3. I try to install and I get this error at the end of the Install process. "The procedure entry point GetProcessImageFileNameW could not be located in the dynamic link library PSAPI.DLL" Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.
-
Aug 17 2008 at 06:22 by the_skdster (mininova.org)nvm. I got it to work. For some reason, some of the DLLs weren't being installed into the games folder. Now, HOW DO I INSERT DISC 2 when it prompts me to?!? help...

-
Jan 03 2009 at 09:02 by simulacra27 (mininova.org)After all this I spoke w/ a good friend and asked him a few questions. He said I need a crack, whatever that may be. I advised him of a couple things that I noticed. One, my .cue file is associated w/ my VCL media player. Is this normal? And number two there is a (F drive after I click on my computer icon, when I click on this drive it opens and I see the install .cue file for the game, as well as an .img folder and two windows that are called FF8B and FF8CR. After I told him this information he still said I need a crack... I don't know what this is. And I wanted to post a call for help before I went any further. so PLEASE help. I want to play this damn game.
-
Jan 03 2009 at 09:02 by simulacra27 (mininova.org)I followed instructions from comments 41 to 42 and it doesn't seem to be working. First, I downloaded Daemon tools and thats installed. Second, I extracted the .rar file to my hard drive. Third, I extracted the Install CD.rar file to my hard drive. Fourth, I right clicked on the daemon icon in my system tray, selected virtual CD/DVD ROM, Mount, and it opened the browser box. I located the .cue file in the install cd disk and mounted. Next it told me to copy both the .ccd and .cue file to my desktop and mount the .cue file from the desktop. I did this and it produced the following error: Unable to mount image Cue sheet: Line 1 File not accessable. comment too long see next post

Jan 04 2009 at 14:43 by cerebrixx (mininova.org)omfg all these posts about installing and its stupidly easy (after spending the best part of 2 hours figuring it out lol) make sure u have atleast 2 mountable drives ok after u have extracted the files and the disc install rar do this 1. mount final fantasy 8 cd.cue 2. go to my computer and explore the mounted drive 3. mount the FF8_install.cue onto another drive 4. install that simple to install. all these complicated posts just make things well.... complicated lol
-
Jan 04 2009 at 14:56 by cerebrixx (mininova.org)oh btw thats for xp users

Jan 12 2009 at 20:45 by GnoeGnoe (mininova.org)I have a question, What does it mean when you for example are in the menu, its totally white, well you can see that there is an arrow but its white and if u move it, lastposition will remain white. Also happend when choosing a name for example, in fight and such no problems at all, just at the things like menu, picking name etc etc What could be the problem?
-
Jan 12 2009 at 21:09 by GnoeGnoe (mininova.org)Seems like if i put it on software renderer it works just fine...sorry for the trouble!
-
Jul 10 2008 at 15:41 by lithocardia (mininova.org)OMFG at post #72! Everyone else doesn't seem to have your problem dude. Sometimes pre-existing software, codecs, even viruses on your machine can conflict with new software, especially torrent downloads (which hey, they may sometimes be iffy but always are free) so get the hell over it! I downloaded over 6 gigabytes of NeverWinterNights2 and a couple of the RAR files were corrupt which made the entire thing useless. In Australia, where I live, we don't have the sweet internet access you have in the US (presuming ur in the US like most ppl). I used to use secondlife & not download any torrents & just using that site, with all it's graphics (or other online gaming) forced me to spend $120 per MONTH on internetz, so that 6 gig of faulty NWN2 was BAD for me... but I didn't abuse the uploader. PPl do their best. Get the heck over yourself. Take a chill pill.
-
Jul 14 2008 at 14:23 by missnikki (mininova.org)****. I went through all the comments suggestions and tried EVERYTHING! And the disk 1 problem still exists. Someone please give me personal assistance on this game. I'm so lost. I'll install it, change the datadrive and insert the disk one cue and it will not work! It keep telling me to insert disk and I do but it won't work!. Here's the thing when I extract the parts they come out as bin files and then there are cue files. The bin files are all the parts as one. So it's usually five cue files and five bin files for every disk (pc). Does this has to do with it. MAN I'm so ******, I've tried everything and it still doesn't work. Personal assistance. My email is j.nik08@yahoo.com. Thank you.

Jul 14 2008 at 18:14 by Yokohama4Life (mininova.org)8. Congratulations you now have TWO VIRTUAL drive! But why do you need two? Let`s find out! (btw I know there are ways of only using 1 virtual drive which are obvious to many of us, but this is written on technical level setting : grandma [which should be comforting like a nice cup of honey lemon tea or a lap dance]) 9. Now remember, you wrote down the location of the extracted files right? Get out that sticky note because now we make use of it! 10. Open WinRAR back up again! Let`s use the same procedure as before to highlight and extract. This time our target is a .rar file called `FF8 Install CD.rar`. Let`s highlight it and extract to our favorite happy location! (you choose, it`ll be fun!, but be sure do remember where this SECOND extraction location is! I would problem write it down below where I wrote the first extraction location! POWDER-SUGAR COVERED TWINKIES!! YAAA)
-
Jul 14 2008 at 18:15 by Yokohama4Life (mininova.org)17. Now, if you will please, left click 1 more time on the DAEMON TOOLS icon in the lower right corner. You will see `DEVICE 0:' already mounted with that `Final Fantasy 8 Install CD.cue` file but you will notice `DEVICE 1:` is not yet mounted(poor thing!). So let mount that puppy, but before we go and rashly left click on it 1 time, let`s look at what is written after `DEVICE 1:`. It is a letter right? Like a letter of the alphabet right? That`s right! good! Now, on your sticky pad, make NOTE of that letter okay, because we are going to be best friends before long!!!(My best friend was named [I:], yup, that is right I DRIVE INDEED!)
-
Jul 14 2008 at 18:15 by Yokohama4Life (mininova.org)15. Now virtual drive on Deamon tools, `DEVICE 0:`, is loaded with `Final Fantasy 8 Install CD.cue`. To your computer, this file itself will seem like a DVD drive with a DVD in it. Here is the funny part though (which really isn`t that funny!) On that DVD that let`s call `Final Fantasy 8 Install CD.cue`, is another DVD IMAGE FILE! Crazy right? It is like a box inside a box, inside a box, inside a box! (Don`t back over the boxes with your car or throw in front of train okay!) 16. But all this good right!? Because you have TWO SPIFFY virtual drives and you are only using 1 of them so far! So let`s USE THE OTHER!!!
-
Jul 14 2008 at 18:16 by Yokohama4Life (mininova.org)18. Now, I will let you go ahead and left click on that `DEVICE 1:` you are dying to click on. Now, we get to navigate DEVICE 1 to a file location! yaaa!!! Where you ask? We shall navigate it to DEVICE 0:, which is your FIRST virtual drive. Why would we navigate there? Because remember, there is an image file in our virtual drive DEVICE 0: (remember the box in a box thing?) To do this, first navigate to your desktop, and then click on My computer, and then click on DVD DRIVE (some letter of the alphabet here Min plate. Once you click on that you will see four files, and you will click on the one called FF8_Install. 19. WOW, now BOTH of your VIRTUAL DRIVES via Daemon Tools are mounted! (fun wasn`t it?) At this point you may notice that a VERY COOL LOOKING INSTALL FOR FINAL FANTASY 8 has come up!!! GREAT right????!!! NOPE, you still have lots of steps to go, but I will give you permission to feel a little bit excited.
-
Jul 14 2008 at 18:17 by Yokohama4Life (mininova.org)Cnt. 22. In the new box that popped up after clicking modify will be a place for you to type your drives letter in. Default will probally be c:, which will definitely not be the name of your virtual drive (letter of the alphabet, remember?) Type that letter in and click OK. Then get the HELL OUT OF REGISTRY EDITOR(that means exit that window that says REGISTRY EDITOR) BEFORE YOU MESS SOMETHING UP and your brand new pc you bought yesterday never works again and you make death threats to the uploader and me!)
-
Jul 14 2008 at 18:19 by Yokohama4Life (mininova.org)25. Where do I go to get these things? here: a. http://**********.com/files/80132624/ff8_launcher_v1.31.rar (for the Launcher program which is a rar file, so you will have to extract it! ready to use once you unpack it with winrar) b. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=9b2da534-3e03-4391-8a4d-074b9f2bc1bf&DisplayLang=en (Visual C++ 2008 runtie environment very easy to install! just double click and follow the prompts) c. http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?eax (this is the new eax.dll file we will use to replace the ****py unified eax file we are going to deleter) d. http://www.fileplanet.com/40187/40000/fileinfo/Final-Fantasy-VIII-v1.2(GeForce) (This is patch version 1.2 for FF8 and you NEED IT!)
-
Jul 14 2008 at 18:21 by Yokohama4Life (mininova.org)29. By the way, if you haven`t rebooted after doing all of this, you might want to do that before you start the launcher program. 30. Now, congratulations because you are about to play the BEST FINAL FANTASY EVER, even though the graphics look like hell 10 years later, but oh the memories you can revisit!!! Also, please don`t death threat me. I am a hobbled little midget living in Yokohama Japan who happens to be game programmer than can not defend himself! Especially I can`t defend myself with English because I only learn it from co-workers. Peace out !!!!!!!!!!
-
Jul 14 2008 at 18:21 by Yokohama4Life (mininova.org)Cnt. 27. Now we got a window opened up of SYSTEM 32, and please drag and drop that file you downloaded called eax.dll right into that folder i.d. SYSTEM 32, and then close that window. Now what about the patch? Well, open up My Computer again, and go to C:/Program Files/Eidos Interactive/Square Soft,Inc folder and take the 1.2 version FF8 patched files (there are four of them) and paste those files over the old files in the folder. 28. Now, open the 1.31 version launcher program, and select 8-bit Paletted Textures Fix, Stretch 4:3 Aspect Ratio(if you got a rad LCD or plasma that is 16:9) and Expert mode (just because I think you are an expert for reading all of these instructions) and then click on PLAY FF8

Jul 14 2008 at 18:31 by Yokohama4Life (mininova.org)http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=867286ce8fd9997eb2023225968406b4&topic=7248.0 somone you can get the launcher program here! Did I say dl 3 programs to get FF8 working? I meant 4. EAX.DLL update, 1.2 FF8 Patch, C++ Visual 08, and 1.31v FF8 launcher. See comment just above for the address to get these.

Jul 15 2008 at 15:30 by Yokohama4Life (mininova.org)1 last thing! The more you prepare yourself for the worst, the better off you will be. Therefore, create a restore checkpoint before you start the installation process. Also keep a copy of the original unified EAX.DLL`s in a safe place. 90% chance there are no side effects. But we need to prevent comments like #72 and #92. I completely understand cech`s frustration, but he if took proper precautions to protect himself in the first place this would not have happened to him. Furthermore, the saying `you get what you pay for` seems appropriate. He got a free file, on top of that he took no precautions or preventive measures to safegaurd original registry/system configurations which is a basic process of dl`ing/installing torrent software. As of July 15, after a virus scan, there are no viruses in this file. That does not mean software/firmware incompatibilities might not exist with your system. Protect yourself, then have fun.
-
Jul 15 2008 at 15:33 by Yokohama4Life (mininova.org)Comment #72 Also, online death threats like cech`s in many countries (like here in Japan) and in several states in the U.S. is actually subject to civil and criminal investigation/charges. Please think that you are speaking directly to a human(which you are) and not to a machine. Have a great day everyone!

Jul 17 2008 at 05:53 by xbuttxfacex (mininova.org)after you finish disc 1, it asks for you to put in disc 2 what shud i do?

Jul 17 2008 at 14:26 by Yokohama4Life (mininova.org)Read post 96-114. First of all the install executable is on the IMAGE file named `FF8 Install CD.cue`. There is no need to INSTALL either disc 1 or 2 because those are game play images only required for `in-game` play. Absolutely no need to install those whatsoever. If you read either my posts which are extensive or the very simple, yet accurate post of `the-line` you will quickly understand.

Jul 18 2008 at 10:25 by lithocardia (mininova.org)awww it's installed fine & I've changed the drive letter in regedit... but each time I mount the image file of CD1 it says "cautin, wrong disk". I've tried changing the names of the disk images to DISC1 etc. Pls tell me specifically which file is needed for disks 1,2,3 & 4
-
Jul 18 2008 at 10:56 by Yokohama4Life (mininova.org)When you unpack(decompress) the file FF8 Disc 1.rar(notice the spaces) and extract them into a new folder (via WinRaR) you should have 4 files in the extract folder(called FF8 Disc 1). The most important(only important) file in that folder is one that should automatically be named Final Fantay 8 CD 1.cue(again notice the spaces). This is assuming that you went through the install process (see posts 94-112) correctly. If you try to start up not having gone through the install process correctly, I have estimated there to be(by rough count so far) over 60 different error messages you could get. @@@@@@@@@Lithocardia (what OS are you running? version/bit) if you are running 98/2000/XP you can skip a few steps (94-112) but if VISTA you got to do them all ! sorry!

Jul 18 2008 at 15:42 by lithocardia (mininova.org)Yokohama, thanks for the reply. I solved my problem. Goose that I am, I forgot that regedit changes won't take effect until next log on. I restarted my PC and it worked fine LOL @ me. Since you gots the technical know how could you pls explain to me how to use the editors that came with the game. I think I can use some features of the Griever. I had to download the mfc.dlls from the maker's site but some features say 'has not been inplemented'. Also the Eight, Chole & Garden don't seem to do anything. There were absolutely NO instructions provided that I could see for how to install any of these. I've tried with all 3 is to add those 3 dlls straight into the program files FF8 folder then just dropping in the units themselves. Most of it 'not implemented'. Also on the website that those files come from, it says there is a bugfix for Griever. 'Ffed if I could find it

Jul 18 2008 at 18:20 by Yokohama4Life (mininova.org)It says `geforce` but graphics card manufacturer has nothing to do with it. It patches up game script itself to run on today`s OS (XP and after). If you already applied that patch (which is the newest and last patch made for the game) then I am at a loss for now. Tell me if that helps, but if it does not, give me a few days to research it. What some people forgot though is this. Even when we were running this game on Win95(which it was designed for even though it came out in early `99 here in Japan) the game itself(especially graphics engine) was already extremely buggy. It was rushed to market after FF7 by the new director regardless of all the inverted and missing polygons rendered by the new engine`s script which was a complete overhaul of FF7. (New graphics engine back then in 2 years was pretty much ridiculous for a studio the size of Square Soft or any company(Even Blizzard back then cancelled their first person StarCraft b/c the hardware was not in place yet for the process intensive code)
-
Jul 18 2008 at 18:20 by Yokohama4Life (mininova.org)Crazy guess here.. but perhaps the `not implented` return you are getting is because the games and extras(editor) is running through its code but buggy on picking up the dll coding. It is right to assume the dll`s you dropped in are first of all surely much newer than the original, but I am wondering if it is actually the game engine`s(also tied into the editor) error in not calling up that updated dll source. I guess you probably already applied the F8 1.2 patch http://www.fileplanet.com/40187/40000/fileinfo/Final-Fantasy-VIII-v1.2(GeForce) (This is patch version 1.2 for FF8 and you NEED IT!) but here is the link just in case.

Jul 18 2008 at 18:28 by Yokohama4Life (mininova.org)@ Cardio It is good to hear that you got the game itself running though! Congrats to you on that b/c most of the people on this board immediately accuse everyone else of a conspiracy against them when things do not work PERFECT the very FIRST TIME without even reading other people`s problems and solutions first! it is crazy! glad you had the fortitude to stick it out b/c even though the game is buggy, we both know the story is one of the strongest in the franchise. I might say the strongest after revoluntionary FFVII and the smooth graphics and gameplay of FFX on PS2. Gameplay used to matter until FXI came out. Even for Japanese, we think it is tedious. We have 6 expansions for it, but even the best story loses its impact after diluting it down with the frustration of the gameplay. FF8` smooth junctioning ability blew my mind back in 98 the first time i got to play the demo. Because of that... I can understand why you want to get in there with the editor and play around!

Jul 18 2008 at 20:50 by lithocardia (mininova.org)Here's how I got it working #1 Have 2 virtual drives open on Daemon. Mount the install disk & the go to it with explorer. Mount the second image inside the first. That's the install (think of those russian dolls with one inside another). #2 Unmount those once installed. Only need 1 virtual drive going now. Mount the disk image on the disk 1 (not install). For me that wasn't the ccd. The ccd file was only 2k! It's the .img file. If you get credits going forever don't worry. Press the 'action' control which for me was keyboard 'x' by default. You can change controls later. #3 Play your game. Advisably have something like taskmanager open in the background so you can just hit alt tab when you need to change disks as there is no way to minimise.

Jul 18 2008 at 20:54 by lithocardia (mininova.org)The only thing that isn't cool with this game is the graphics. FFVII had an unofficial hi-res patch. There seems to be no equivalent on the web. Does anyone know of a hi res patch? Or at least an nVidia patch so we can use hardware rendering without arseing up our graphics? What about emulators? I've never used one b4 so I don't know anything about how they work. Is it possible to run this with one though? Partly because I've read that the graphics are much nicer, especially the characters. Also I want to use a generic controller pad. Trying to play with the few buttons they allow you to use from the keyboard (only numpad, letters & directional arrow, no alt, shift, space or any of the 'easy' numbers) bites the big one, so to speak. Do I need an emulator to use this? I can't see how else the game would recognise it.
-
Jul 18 2008 at 21:06 by lithocardia (mininova.org)@YOKOHAMA I didn't have that patch. I ignored anything that said geforce thinking it was some old video thing. I had a geforce card years ago. Is this patch going to make my graphics better? I could kiss you! As for the save game editor, it does work for adding items. I can get as many as I want of anything which is cool plus I can alter all the stats for my party & GFs. I'd like to know what the rest does too. Please read my above post in regards to graphics, emulators (esp as the only FF9 torrent I can find is PSX with ePSXe & using a generic controller instead of struggling with the keyboard.

Jul 18 2008 at 21:12 by lithocardia (mininova.org)@ Yokohama As for it being the best FF, I don't know. FF8 was the very first one I played years ago & it was my fave PS one game ever. I've never played anything above 8 but I intend to play them all. Tell me, which is the one I've seen clips on ******* of, that has perfect looking CGI characters, but has Cloud, Tifa & Aeris? I want to play that! I've just finished FFVII (disappointed with the outcome, I was waiting to get the w-item materia to take advantage of the glitch to get 90 sylkis greens for each chocobo, because otherwise I played it straight) but as soon as I got the w-item from the railway after parachuting into Midgar I found myself locked into a path that lead to the end, without a chance to wander off. I never got to kill any of the WEAPONS, breed chocobos & get the extra materias or get anything from the battle square. I didn't even get Cloud's limit break (though the game gave it to me to finish off Sephorith). I was only level 80 at the end!
-
Jul 18 2008 at 21:19 by lithocardia (mininova.org)@yokohama ...cont I was leaving the battle arena until I raced my chocobos. I read that I should wait until after parachuting into Midgar to get the w-item materia so I could use it to get stacks of Sylkis greens. How is this done? How can you get back out of the subway where Hojo is, before Cid whisks you off to Northern Cave? If there is a way out of the subway, can you get onto the Highwind & steer it away from Midgar? Heck, I didn't even get into Midgar. I'd even forgotten to go back to Neibelheim, though I thought I'd get another chance. I'm sure that playing Tifa's piano will unlock something. I still have a couple of Ultimate Weapons to go (Tifa's & Cloud's). Also that man in Kalm needs some items which I suspect the weapons drop. I'm soooo peed off. Esp as the game kept crashing on the last video, which I didn't know was the last. I fought all the Sephorith's loads of times.

Jul 19 2008 at 15:40 by Yokohama4Life (mininova.org)maxigts is very humble and calls this a launcher, but the fact that you can control video output size and all aspects of video rendering makes it an awesome emulator in my book. Plus it actually makes the graphics better or should I say, it makes the look better on VISTA/XP system because it bumps up the 8bit pallete textures to work with 32bit pallete textures. There is also an expert mode that lets you control graphics IN-GAME via some special buttons. You will need the Visual C++ 2008 runtime environment installed http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=9b2da534-3e03-4391-8a4d-074b9f2bc1bf&DisplayLang=en To use this just mount the game file as per usual but don`t run the FF8 exe. Just run the maxigts nonofficial launcher exe and you are in business. Hope you are as pleased with it as I was!!!
-
Jul 19 2008 at 15:42 by Yokohama4Life (mininova.org)@Lithocardia As far as your in-game questions give me a day to get back to you on those! I am not sure myself just yet. I will ask my friend who is a master of FF franchise storylines/gameplay/non-technical side of the game.

Jul 21 2008 at 18:03 by lithocardia (mininova.org)@Yokohama Thanks so much for all your help. I've never in my life used an emulator but if it's as simple as installing the 2 files you just gave me & launching with the launcher rather than my shortcut to the exe file, it sounds too easy. But as I've never used an emulator before, pls could you give me some more of your wonderful help? After this I really want to play FFIX but the only English language version I could find thru Mininova that had a decent amount of peers was this: http://www.mininova.org/com/1578000 As you see it's a PXS version that requires ePSXe emulator (?) There is no emulator supplied with it that I can see. How do I aquire this emulator & use it. I read I have to do something with BIOS too. I only use BIOS for basic commands when I assemble a new PC to set boot sequence & see if hardware is recognised etc.

Jul 31 2008 at 01:00 by svencohen (mininova.org)5)now. restart your computer because you have changed the registry value and it will not change until you restart your computer. 6)ok. now you have restarted your computer and you have installed your patches and you have installed the game. 7)now you should mount ff8 disc 1.cue or bin to the drive you used to install and the drive you changed in the regedit. 8)now go into the "my computer" program files into the ff8 directory and start ff8 with the ff8.exe you created with the (game patches). 9)ff8 should start , select new game, and it should run perfectly. in my ff8config.exe i didn't change (graphics tab)>to software render i left it as 3d render but like i said i am running on win 98. i have no idea how to run this in winxp or vista but it should work the same all that is diff is that people have suggested placing ff8.exe onto the desktop and running it from there.

Jul 31 2008 at 05:33 by ekwc118 (mininova.org)@ Yokohama4Life i have followed and done everything u told from 94-112 (i think, should be, have to be) still i have the "wrong disc" error when it ask for Disc 1 as i remember that u mention nothing about it needs to rename the disc (Final Fantay 8 CD 1.cue) before mounting it which just mount the disc image as it comes and @ 120, what u mean by "notice the spaces" any special meaning? thanks for adv help ...

Jun 02 2008 at 07:44 by zlinspin (mininova.org)I used to run my computer in this config for higher end games to free up memory and take some load off the cpu. Game runs for me now, albeit, I haven't played through the whole thing yet but it seems stable. Results may vary depending on your hardware and software configuration. A little trial and error may prove useful. Certain programs running in the background are most likely the culprit. Hope this helps, cheers to all and happy gaming!! "Bring some light into the darkness"
-
Jun 02 2008 at 09:41 by zlinspin (mininova.org)Well folks, after all that, turns out my soundcard was the culprit. I'm running SoundMAX digital integrated audio (not by choice). Thought I had it figured out (re: above posts), but after a few rounds the game became unstable and choppy. A little messing about and I finally disabled my sound card. It's been running perfectly since but who the hell knows. May have jumped the gun on the initial cause, hope this hasn't caused anyone any headaches. Best of luck.

Jun 04 2008 at 09:09 by Polo59 (mininova.org)Thanks, the game runs, fine, I just have one problem: the music is OK, but the sounds don't work; especially in battle it's a bit disturbing. Can someone please help me?????????
-
Jun 04 2008 at 22:00 by 7andahalfinch (mininova.org)Polo59 - i had a similar problem, do you have surround sound system attached to pc/laptop? check in control panel and open sound. select your output device ie. speakers/headphones and click configure. ensure that sound is set to STEREO and NOT TO quadraphonic or surround. if this does not solve problem check any third party sound application settings ie. SigmatelAudio, EAX, AudioManager, or any software that has configurable options on your machine. Hope this helps.
-
Jun 04 2008 at 22:15 by 7andahalfinch (mininova.org)just to clarify i meant "check... any software that has configurable options in relation to your machines sound. If all else fails, check startmenu/allprograms/eidosinteractive/squaresoft et.c and open FF8config - check sound tab and set to primary sound driver...

Mar 05 2009 at 15:35 by slems (mininova.org)hi there, i don't really understand what cerebrixx means when he say mount the FF8_install.cue on another drive? I've done the 2 first steps but i still can't install the game thanks for your future answer
-
Mar 13 2008 at 23:47 by thelovemonk (mininova.org)To get FF8 (PC version) to work on windows VISTA move the ff8.exe file to the directory one level up. for example: C:\program files\eidos interactive\SQUARESOFT, Inc\FINAL FANTASY 8\ff8.exe moved to C:\program files\eidos interactive\SQUARESOFT, Inc\ff8.exe don't ask me why it works or how it just does. i own the pc version of the game and had wanted to play the game again since i had trouble running the psx version on my psp. I can't remember the forum or the website but someone posted that it worked like that on vista. Just double click on the ff8.exe icon and the game should run fine. Oh and remember to run the game using software rendering else there is a good chance there will be graphical glitches in the game.

Mar 22 2008 at 02:23 by akumu3007 (mininova.org)how exactly do u install it, i've tried using daemon tools but it's not working properly, some help please
-
Mar 22 2008 at 06:18 by akumu3007 (mininova.org)I just keep getting an error message whenever I try to run it, or install it.
-
Mar 22 2008 at 08:44 by Trendykurdos (mininova.org)I actually owned this game in the past, what you need to do is this : You need to rename the images of cd1-4 to DISC1, DISC2, DISC3, DISC4, those correspond to the name each cd of the game should have to be recognised by the game. The uploader of the torrent really did a bad job with renaming each image with the daemon tools default name.
-
Mar 22 2008 at 08:47 by Trendykurdos (mininova.org)For akumu3007, the install cd image actually includes another image which is the install cd, so try booting the image in the image . I guess the guy who did this did it on purpose :S hope i helped
-
Mar 22 2008 at 08:51 by Trendykurdos (mininova.org)Also , in case you manage to get it working, the game does use 8bit palette textures, which were dropped by nvidia's drivers from series 6xxx upwards. It only runs in software mode.
-
Mar 22 2008 at 15:43 by rnd84 (mininova.org)the renaming did not work for me, did it work for any one else ? or is this just a big prank ?
-
Mar 22 2008 at 16:08 by rnd84 (mininova.org)following the info here ( http://membres.lycos.fr/demigosh/ )fixed the disc 1 problem, still that this game runs choppy is a bit worrying
-
Mar 22 2008 at 20:17 by Trendykurdos (mininova.org)It's the same thing actually, the game recognises the game files from a fixed location. that's what you changed in the registry patch. whatever.

I guess the guy who did this did it on purpose :S hope i helped ^^^^yeah thats what i did after a bit of trial and error, mount the install disc. on that there will be another image, mount that as well and it'll install

Mar 25 2008 at 04:56 by jusarascal (mininova.org)i cant get this to work how the hell do u installit i cant burn to disk the files are too big???

Mar 25 2009 at 23:45 by decoy61 (mininova.org)Copy everything from the install disc to the hard drive that can be accessed in safemode of windows. The reason for this is some virtual drives don't work in safemode. Any location would do. C:\install\ or even a folder on the desktop, though I don't know why you would choose the desktop. I'm just saying the path doesn't matter. Restart windows in safemode. I'm using XP pro, all I had to do was press F8 a couple times after the bios but before the windows logo popped up. You can select safemode with networking if you forget directions easily and need to look this up. Browse to the folder and run setup.exe and it should run perfectly, albeit laggy image translations due to basic video support and no accelerated hardware. After install, just reboot and you have FF8 installed. I suggest looking at previous posts for tips on how to make it run better.
-
Mar 25 2009 at 23:45 by decoy61 (mininova.org)Alright, I've had the same problem as penting (#48) and rozza33 (#81) The problem went like this. Mounting the image was fine, but when you try to install the game, nothing happened. Using the autorun did not work and runing setup.exe in the cd drive did not work. Both actions resulted in a phantom program in the task manager called setup.exe that did absolutely nothing. I spent half a day trying to figure out if my copy was bad or there was some **** ****ing up the install process. So after downloading this three times from different sources, I decided to just copy everything in the install cd to the hard drive and run the install in safemode and that solved my problem. Instructions in post below.

Mar 27 2008 at 07:46 by Sup_Cheatsurfer (mininova.org)You don't NEED to burn them. Use a Virtual Drive program like MagicDisc or Nero Image Drive and mount the Images. As for the "Insert Disc One" Error, the Image files MUST BE NAMED "DISC1""DISC2""DISC3""DISC4" or it WILL NOT WORK. The "Registry Patch" can fix it, but renaming the files is just easier.
-
Mar 27 2008 at 07:49 by Sup_Cheatsurfer (mininova.org)Note for nVidia users: Quote from Trendykurdos: Also , in case you manage to get it working, the game does use 8bit palette textures, which were dropped by nvidia's drivers from series 6xxx upwards. It only runs in software mode.

Mar 30 2008 at 17:02 by BabelonKing (mininova.org)For those having trouble installing the game, I may be able to help. This is what I've done to install the game. 1. Extract the Install ISO. That actually has all the real installation application in that. I don't know why the uploader decided to compress all the stuff in another ISO? 2. Mount the ff8 Install image file to DAEMON Tools, or whatever you have that's a virtual drive. 3. The installation window should have started automatically after mounting. 4. Afterwards, just hit the install button at the top of the window. Unfortunately, I don't have a surefire way to get the game to work since everything is placed in ISO's. But what I'd do is read this page to see if anyone has a better way to make the game work as I just finished installing. If anyone knows how to make the game work without changing the registry, can you please reply?

-
Mar 31 2009 at 22:06 by decoy61 (mininova.org)I suggest reading the instructions that came with the game, or even the comments above. But since I'm feeling helpful, here's what to do: hit start and then run and type in regedit look for this key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Square Soft, Inc\FINAL FANTASY VIII\1.00 change the value of the DataDrive to the drive of the virtual cd you used. Example, mine said C: and I changed it to V: where I had mounted CD1. should run fine after that.

May 06 2008 at 08:56 by maros321 (mininova.org)for the ones that needIn regedit, find the key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Square Soft, Inc\FINAL FANTASY VIII\1.00 Again, for those of you new to regedit, simply browse through the following folders (in this order) until the pane on your right displays several items, of which one will be "DataDrive". HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SOFTWARE Square Soft, Inc FINAL FANTASY VIII 1.00 Right click on the string value labelled "DataDrive" (it will have an icon with the letters ab on it to the left of it) in the right pane of the regedit browser. Click "Modify" In the field marked "Value Data" which is the only field you can change, it will probably display something like "c:" This is where knowing your installation cd drive letter comes into play Change the "c:" to whatever drive you installed FF8 with (for example "s:\" Click OK Close regedit. Run ff8.exe s some help this worked for me

Please be aware, the gamehacks and cheats and etc were written by some ****, so they don't work unless you search google for a bunch of dll files. I only managed to get the savegame editor to work, but it works well. 10/10 download!

May 10 2008 at 00:21 by Neonsighs (mininova.org)Hey guys. First of all, thanks for the tips to get this game going. It took some figuring out but I eventually got it and played all the way through Disc 1. After saving at the end of that disc it asks for Disc 2. Can someone please, please tell me how to load disc 2. I followed the same instructions for the install disc and disc 1 but its still not working. Anyone have any tips? (I'm running XP and tried mounting the Disc2.pak file that was found inside the first disc2.iso)

I'm hoping I'll get to finish it this time.

Oct 10 2008 at 05:39 by gultan (mininova.org)Hey guys, I have downloaded this file "FF8 All 5 CD + Goodies" but find hard to open it. I tried open it with Power Iso 4.2 it shows format like .pak, .fi, .fl, .fs and also extracted all 5cd using winrar then mounted shows the same format. Pls reply
-
Oct 12 2008 at 09:17 by kerensa (mininova.org)Okay if you have already extracted the files (I used winrar), then there should have been a folder marked DAEMON or some such -- what u wanna do is install daemon - its very small and no problems -- 1. You want to rename the files and put them in an easy to find folder (everything from before the number in the filename should be changed to say DISC, in caps, but definitely KEEP the number of the disc and the file extension .ccd, .iso, whatever it was) 2. Go to posts #41 and #42 if you are running Win XP. If yr running Vista, I think Yokohama4Life is the name of the poster you want to look for, and that starts at post #94. All the instructions are in this thread somewhere, you just have to invest the time and look for them.
-
Oct 12 2008 at 09:23 by kerensa (mininova.org)3. As far as the multiple file thing, which is confusing at first, all you need to do is access (browse) the file from inside the programs you want to use. For example, in Daemon, 4 files turned into 2, and it would only let me open the right one of those 2, I tried the other and it just said no. I've done it now a couple of times with no problem. btw- when you open Daemon, you will want to "mount" the image of yr choice - this fools yr pc into thinking you have the actual game discs in a pretend disc drive. As far as the in-game question, you need to get into the menu that lets u configure yr keyboard. The button u want is definitely there (there's instructions for that too somewhere in this thread), and you can change it. I believe that menu allows itself to be accessed just before you actually start the program. Can't remember for sure. Im planning on buying a USB dual analog controller and program it for the game just like my ps1.

Mount "FF8_Install" file again, install the game with all def options. Continue in next post..

Sep 01 2008 at 03:50 by hyp3rion (mininova.org)NVM, managed to fix it . FOR THOSE WITH 64 Bit VISTA: 1. Follow Yoko's steps: Posts 96-114 1. GO TO: http://gf.wiretarget.com/ff8.htm 2. Download the Final Fantasy 8 v1.2/GeForce [10.4 MB] NoCD Executables. DO NOT download the Patch version, as it is for 32 bit OS, with 64 bit it will refuse to run) Follow the Crack instructions and BE HAPPY

Sep 02 2008 at 11:03 by kerensa (mininova.org)ya know, i downloaded it, renamed files (DISC1, DISC2, etc), mounted the files using the handy included daemon, and followed posts# 41 and 42 To The Letter; it was a bit overwhelming at first, but trial and error and i got it working - noticed the lag in battles and turned off all my background programs except my firewall and daemon, and noticed a difference right away found the patch online, downloaded and installed that - bad idea. I run XPsp2 with fairly decent video/sound cards, nothing fancy (p3 cpu) ha ha the patch gave me the video problems other ppl were complaining about, lines n such. I ended up uninstalling the whole darn thing and going thru the whole process over again, this time no patch. insidious form of evil, computers are
