Initially, Larson followed the sound of laid-back Californian country-rock, which resulted in a Top Ten pop hit in 1979 with &quot;Lotta Love.&quot; In the years following the success of &quot;Lotta Love,&quot; Larson continued to mine the soft rock California sound, eventually leaving it behind for country music in the mid-'80s. During the course of the '80s, she racked up a number of country hits before moving into semi-retirement.<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Nicolette Larson first came to public attention when she backed up Neil Young on his American Stars 'n Bars disc. She went on to duet with him on his much anticipated Comes a Time album, which was the genesis for Nicolette. Using an even wider-ranging style than friends Linda Ronstadt or Emmylou Harris, Larson hit it big right out of the starting gate with Young's &quot;Lotta Love,&quot; a super Top Ten smash. From there, she broadens her approach to include a soulful &quot;You Send Me,&quot; the Louvin Bros' &quot;Angels Rejoiced,&quot; Motown's &quot;Baby, Don't Do It,&quot; and a hard-rockin' &quot;Can't Get Away From You.&quot; No matter which genre she aspired to, she seemed to have the chops to do a fine job. Nicolette was a surprise for many when it first came out and is still a pleasure to listen to today. Her voice isn't always strong or rich enough to sustain interest in which she's singing, but the diversity of sounds, including one great Allen Tousaint number (&quot;Tears, Tears and More Tears&quot;) holds the interest.
