Venice-2010. The end. part I
Women were the heroines of 67th Venice Film Festival, both actresses and directors. The weaker sex in this year declared themselves in a full voice. The result was the awarding with the Golden Lion of a drama "Somewhere" by Sofia Coppola.
The jury's decision under the direction of Quentin Tarantino handed the Golden Lion for his good friend Sophia Coppola was greeted with a storm of indignation in the press center.
"We gave the prize not to my friend, but a wonderful film with excellent acting, - said Tarantino. - We were very struck by this film. And every day we have continued to think about it until some of the jury did not say: "Listen, we have already watched the best film! "Gold Lion" - a prize which is given for the film as a whole: and for the script and direction, and for the play - for all! So for us, this award was obvious. And anyway, I do not understand why you are clamoring: Sofia is Italian!"
"Somewhere" - is the story of actor John Mark (Stephen Dorff) who is forced to eke out a rather miserable existence. He is divorced, lives in Chateau Mormon hotel, where likes to dwell for a long time a Hollywood elite, he bored even during a strip tease, always wants to sleep, rides in the sports car, promotes the film and even takes part in the recording of the Italian TV show. The only safety valve for Johnny is meeting with the daughter (El Fanning).
In this year's competition was a lot of Asian films: "Detective Dee", "Thirteen murderers", "Norwegian Wood", "Ditch" - but not some of them had not received any major awards. Knowing that Tarantino - a fan of Asian cinema, journalists asked him why it happened.
"Because there was no winners" - cut off the director.
However, it should be noted that Tarantino has proudly stood the test.
Award for Best Actor went to Vincent Gallo for drama of Jerzy Skolimowski "Essential Killing". Gallo played the Arabs Mohammed, whom arrested Americans on suspicion of terrorism and transported to a secret private prison in Europe. From there, Muhammad managed to escape and with difficulty to survive in the snowy mountains.
In particular, the press wondered about the award Volpi Cup for Best Actress to Frenchwoman Ariane Labed, who played in the Greek drama "Attenberg".
"This is a very unusual film - explained Quentin. - We saw a very different Greece - industrial. While most viewers are accustomed to look at the white houses, sun, sea and sand, Athena Tsangari shows us a modern country and speaks about it problems. And Ariane was brilliant in this role".
Interestingly, the leitmotif of "Attenberg", as in the Coppola film, is the relationship of father and daughter. Marina caring for terminally ill father, and in parallel trying to improve her private life. If with the father she perfectly finds a common language, so in case of men the situation is much more complicated. She also loves the program about animals by Attenberg authorship whose distorted name and formed the basis for the name of the picture.
