“Skyline” corporation
One night, dark skies shed a few bright-blue glowing lights at Los Angeles. Group of young people sleeping in the hotel after the party, wouldn’t have noticed this if one of the guys woke up, opened the window and disappeared into the blue glow. Computer action from brothers Strauss "Skyline" pretending the one hundred millionth blockbuster, trying to hypnotize us with victory of the form over content.
Telling the truth, I don’t like Strauss brothers since the cross-over "Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem”, destroyed the hopes for an interesting crossing of two great movie series about extraterrestrial creatures. The founders of the special effects company's "Hydrowalks" (does not mean anything - it just sounds cool), these two seem to be eager to make a cult film - forming under his own niche.
So far, the alcove formed reluctantly - in the case are wrong techniques and imagery, and all the brothers easily suspected of copying successful designs in order to earn some money. "Skyline", for example, trying to be "Cloverfield" and "The Matrix" while playing on the field with alien monsters from computer shooters.
However, the genre-Frankenstein by brothers Strauss is already possible to discern quite recognizable features. Firstly, at the forefront of their film – are not people, and deadpan brothers from outer space, relating to people are not hostile, and indifferent: as an empty space. Secondly, the explosions and gunfire say more than words. Thirdly, it's not going to end happily for the people.
"Skyline", of course, meets all these criteria - surprised at the level ground that was much better than was expected of it. However, the plot of the movie is stupid and attempts to pretend to be blockbuster with a huge budget just annoying me - but there is a new creation by brothers Strauss something that makes it a respectful nod to the closing credits.
The main thing from this - a tangible spirit of independent film made by a group of enthusiasts, all together, "burning" the general idea. In the "Skyline" this spirit is in everything: in the hand camera, in an unknown, but very natural in the roles, youth in the hotel as the only imaging location. Separately, it is worth noting unusual portraits on walls, funny, "rhymed" with an action movie, which add charm what is happening.
The main disadvantage - but an idea that the aliens will win us a mesmerizing light, "Skyline" has nothing to offer: during the whole movie heroes run back and forth and up and down the hotel, and all around - on earth and in heaven - is the battle for Los Angeles. Meanwhile, who expects from Strauss original idea, it's better to relax: "Skyline" will please the eye - but not the mind.
However, despite the sometimes comical, and frankly computer effects, there are beautiful scenes in the film too.
"Skyline" is likely to be remembered as a pretty idiotic regular cranberry about alien invasion - and it turned its back having earned its archived movie trash. But never, never - even find a full 3D-cinemaera – we won’t be able to forget piercing blue eyes of alien monsters. They will always watch over us from the horizon.
