Bosnia doesn’t allow Jolie to film her movie
While working on her directorial debut Angelina Jolie faced with an unexpected problem: the Ministry of Culture of Bosnia, has withdrawn the permission for filming in the country as long as it does not provide a scenario.
Minister of Culture of Bosnia Gavrilo Grahovach reported that an application to conduct surveys in the country received from Jolie, was not approved, since it did not come with the script, as required by law.
Decision of the Ministry of Culture was taken after a protest by the association of women affected by war in Bosnia. The actress was going to shoot a movie about the love of Serbian men and women in the midst of the Bosnian war in the early nineties.
However, BBC has other information. According to their data, in Bosnia the picture is positioned somewhat differently: the love story develops between the Serbian rapist and his victim, a Muslim. "If they send us to a scenario where it is found that the story does not match that of her talk, we give a new resolution," - says Grahovach.
Studio GK Films, producer of the picture, said the incident "a purely technical point" and is ready to provide the final version of the script. Angelina Jolie herself also made a statement. “Of course, those who have lived through these events will interpret scenario in other way. This is not a documentary. In the story many turns on the thin nature of the relationship between the main characters. This becomes clear when the picture will be released”.
The actress has also sent a letter to the association "Women - Victims of War", to dissuade its members in a negative attitude to have not yet withdrawn the project. Now Jolie is filming in Budapest.
“Buried alive” interview with Ryan Reynolds
In the drama "Buried alive," working under contract in Iraq, an American driver regains consciousness in the grave after his convoy has been under fire. He has only a lighter and a foreign mobile phone. As a part of the promotional tour director Rodrigo Cortez and the star Ryan Reynolds answered IGN resource questions.
- What made you to want to be "buried alive"?
Ryan Reynolds: It was one of the worst scenarios that I have ever read. Somehow, the miracle happened, and Rodrigo Cortes became director of the film. And so he knew how to properly remove this remarkable material. We had had some lunch with him, and after 40 minutes, shook hands to become "buried."
- How important was Ryan for this role?
Rodrigo Cortez: Incredibly important. He was the first candidate for this role. A couple of years ago I watched the movie "Nine" with his participation and was shocked at how this actor can convey the most sincere and deepest emotions through gestures, attitudes, and other trifles. And he has a terrific sense of time. He is like a musician who became an actor. If you intend to make a movie with minimal components, then you need perfect control nuances of tempo, rhythm, and for this guy everything becomes simple - you sit in the director's chair, and he is doing everything right.
- What was the shooting in reality?
Rodrigo Cortez: We used seven coffins. Have to make impossible things possible. Initially, you did not think about where you are, because focus your attention on the limitations of space, on the usual things that you cannot do. I thought about the situation described in the film, as if it happened in New York or some giant planet. I planned it that way. Then I decided that the action will take place in a coffin. As a result, we took seven items. The first was with sliding walls, to deploy a camera and turn it around Ryan: we have a scene in which the camera makes a double turn around, and it is not sliced, in footage shot in real time. We have made the second coffin very long to convey perspective. The third coffin could be rotated, and the fourth was reinforced, and Ryan could thresh it from inside with all his power. In general, we had to invent something.
- With no doubt, this is a very stressful shooting. Was there a moment when you wanted to get away from this project?
Ryan Reynolds: I now realize that initially underestimated how difficult will be my role- both physically and emotionally. During filming, I suffered from insomnia, I have a whole range of emotional problems and sometimes I lose control of myself. I’ve never had a movie that I would take-home after a working day, before. At this time, returning to the hotel, I pulled back a backpack full of rocks, both literally and figuratively.
- What is the viewers’ reaction to your film?
Ryan Reynolds: The first show was held at the festival Sundance. I remember the audience during the first five minutes of sitting at an angle of 45 degrees with open mouths and bulging eyes. It was the stony silence during the whole movie.
Rodrigo Cortez: Here in America, people respond very openly: you will understand at first glance, whether they like your work or not. In Europe it's different. Americans, like soldiers in the army, are doing everything in sync and all at once: open-mouthed scream. The show was wonderful!
Everything is comparable
Everything is comparable. Another reason to repeat this statement came immediately after Tony Curtis death, one of the last of the old actor race. In fact, that it was just another race, we have no doubt, just look at the pictures of Hollywood era pillars which are now commonly called "golden". Telling the truth, comparing those actors with current stars on red tracks, despite all of the same diamonds and glossy perfection, today actors are highly comminuted.
It is difficult to articulate what exactly are these differences. Of course, not the level of acting. In today's Hollywood is no less real talent, oversee the work which is admired on the brink of orgasm.
Rather, it is that elusive "something" be erected between us, devouring popcorn, and them, shining on the screen, an insurmountable wall that separates the world of dreams of the everyday routine. In an era of platinum blondes and laconic gentlemen, they became symbols of the sexual revolution and fashion icon, caused mass hysteria imitations, became presidents' favorites and managed to stay young, dying from an overdose of sleeping pills or just leaving the shadow in the memory of viewers.
Who can remember very old Gregory Peck or Clark Gable? Perhaps someone will remember 60-year-old Audrey Hepburn or 50-year-old Vivien Leigh? Can we compare the most beautiful woman in Hollywood Angelina Jolie with Marilyn Monroe?
Words and definitions are useless. Just look at them at the zenith of their glory, in order to understand how infinitely simple and trite their current successors. Even the most titled, even sexy.
And one more. Wolfgang Pettersen film "Troy" is very remarkable. It is not because the director succeeded especially deeply into the legacy of Homer. Because in this picture have met those same two races in the form of Brad Pitt and Peter O `Tool a star in the shining sunset, fine actor with Apollo appearance.
Angelina Jolie in director role of a new movie in Bosnia
This autumn the star of thriller "Salt" is planning to hold in Eastern Europe. Angelina Jolie will try her hand at directing and made her debut in low-budget drama about love, women and the Bosnian Serb soldiers during the war in the early 1990's.
Jolie often visits this region as a goodwill ambassador for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees. The actress herself wrote the script and plans to shoot and produce a picture, but remain behind the scenes. All actors will be from Bosnia and Herzegovina, but the main language still be English.
Talking about the movie budget, so it's rather small, slightly less than $ 15 million. GK Films, which recently filmed "Tourist" with Angelina Jolie in the main role, will fund the project.
Last weekend Angelina Jolie was in Sarajevo, where she met with the heads of Bosnia and Herzegovina, discussing the fate of 113,000 refugees in the country. During the visit, the actress and said the news of the impending project.
"This film is a love story and not a political statement - said Jolie. - I would like to engage in work on it the maximum number of local residents and learn as much as I can".
Jolie has had a little experience in directing - in 2007, she took off her documentary "A place in time." But in the game film, she tries herself at first. Filming will take place this fall, but does not specify the location for security reasons.
In April of this year, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt visited refugees in eastern Bosnia and promised to return.
Jolie plans are "Sleeping Beauty" by Tim Burton and "Cleopatra" by producer Scott Rudin.
Expendables interview (continuation)
- How all this took place on the stage, who was the most unstoppable? (Laughs) irresistible?
You know, most normal and calm were the strongest guys like Randy Couture, Terry Crews, Steve Austin. The most artistic and unpredictable was, perhaps, Jason (Statham). He is very good, deep actor, thinking. He did not need much to explain, suffice it to say: "Go and do it!" - And he did everything right. Mickey (Rourke), he - like a wild stallion: you do not need him to say, just let him go, to let his acting genius to create. Oh, cannot miss Eric Roberts - it is quite another "animal". You know what I mean?
He is amazing, eccentric actor. However, it was easy with them all! I never met a "normal" good actor. A good actor is always a little crazy. (Laughs)
- And why did Steven Seagal and Jean-Claude Van Damme have refused to participate in your project ?
Steve is busy with his own TV show and takes off somewhere in the south, he has just not had the time, he's a producer. And Claude was philosophical reasons (shakes his head as if in surprise) he plans to turn his career in a completely different direction, wants to try his hand at drama. I respect to such things. For him, it is important, and I understand why. But I hope that our film was not injured. Dolph (Lundgren) came into the picture, he is a cool guy and a smart actor.
- Probably, it was difficult to get the governor to the shooting during his stay in the official title?
You don't even imagine! What he has done for me, was a strong friendly gesture. He was great to get from opponents for participating in the project, while the state is in such poor condition. He came to the shooting at 4:00 am, when the office is still closed, and with the first rays of the sun was already on the way back. His fee, something around 390 dollars, he gave to the treasury of the State, so it has not been any claims for payment for work "on the side". (Laughs.) Bruce at the end of the scene went to the airport and flew to Turkey on business as if it never happened. That's all not so easy.
- Do you think over the second film about the "Expendebles"?
Oh, yes, yes. I would like to continue. One my friend has told me: "You must ask yourself whether you need the pleasure of the pain that you get in the process?" Hmm ... Probably worth it. (Laughs.) It was a lot of pain in the process. But I told my team that has never been so happy that the movie was completed and all survived. I have an idea to continue. International ensemble cast, the characters militants from around the world (smiles). I have had guys in mind. There will be no villain from a particular country would not be politically motivated, but action games, plenty of action, real fights, not CGI. I want to make a movie for a younger audience, so it captures the imagination. You'll see! The idea is cool, as long as the first film of the interested spectators so that they wanted to see these heroes and many others again.
- Have you already written a script? And will you be in director's chair again?
All is being in the process. To write the script is simple enough, difficult concept to put the idea into the project. If you make a movie yourself as a director, then all you have going for almost two years. Some actors manage to make five movies during this time! If I decide to make a second film about the "Expendables", it will not seek another director, of course. Another director would make another movie. This is the case with "The Godfather" - cannot change director for the sequel.
Neil Jordan adaptation of the Booker nominee
The novel by Irish writer Paul Murray "Skippy Dies" - included in the long list of winners for the prestigious Booker Prize. Director of the movie "Interview with the Vampire" Neil Jordan will write the script and put it on film.
Now Jordan is working on the show "Borgia" for Showtime. This is a crime drama, action which is developing in Italy, the 13th century. The project was originally intended for the big screen, but the time otherwise. Also, the director assigned to the adaptation of Neil Gaiman's novel "The Graveyard Book", but production of this film has not yet planned.
As a result, Neil Jordan has at his disposal next novel, which he would have to make a film. "Skippy Dies" in its genre black comedy. The main characters - school friends Skippy and Ruprecht. Overweight genius Ruprecht Van Doren is fond of complex mathematical problems a weakness for horn and extraterrestrial civilizations. Daniel Juster nicknamed "Skippy" - Ruprecht neighbor through the room. Skippy's mother is dying of cancer, and he himself is being regularly humiliated by Physic teacher. At the Dublin college Seabrook nobody pays attention on them.
But when Skippy falls in love with a girl from another school, his modest person suddenly becomes the object of interest in a variety of characters, including Karl, school psychopath and partly trafficker. While teachers college fight for modernization, Ruprecht tries to open a portal into the parallel universe, Skippy involved in the competition eating donuts, which ended fatally for him. Attempts of Ruprecht to reach his friend after death, poured into a series of bizarre experiments.
The last major release of Neil Jordan was the crime drama "The Brave One" with Jodie Foster, released in 2007.
A year ago the director shot "Ondine" with Colin Farrell, but the fate of the film cash release did not work. Director has won an Oscar for the screenplay for his film "The Crying Game".
Len Wiseman will re-shoot “Total Recall”
Three years after "Die Hard 4.0" director Len Wiseman returns to a great movie. He ended talks with Columbia studio about setting fiction thriller remake of "Total Recall", in the original which starred Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Produced by Neal H. Moritz agreed to launch the project in February last year. Already in the summer was hired screenwriter project - Kurt Wimmer, director of "Equilibrium", who wrote, among other things the script to the action "Salt".
"Total Recall" by Paul Verhoeven was released in 1990. The film was shot on a story by Philip K. Dick "We'll remember you everything". Bought at the Rekall Inc. company implanted memories, the main character can't understand who he really is - womanizer or a secret agent who owns all martial arts. To remember all, the hero is sent to Mars, which he so often sees in dreams.
Verhoeven investigated one of Dick's favorite themes - the reality against illusion. Like Arnold Schwarzenegger's character, the audience did not immediately understand what truth is and what fiction is. However, this did not prevent the film to earn very real money - 261 million dollars in worldwide box office. Adjusted for inflation, this amount today would have exceeded 400 million.
While we do not know in which direction Wimmer will lead the story. Of course, screenwriter modernizes it, but will stick to the story by Dick, is not disclosed.
The producers chose Wiseman for the love of the genre and the ability to shoot action. If the director of the "Underworld" completely agree, it is unlikely to please the studio Fox, which matures plan fifth "Die Hard". Recently, Bruce Willis confirmed that appeared to be the next series of the franchise under the leadership of Wiseman.
Tom Tykwer gathers stars
Slowly but surely Tom Tykwer makes his way through the thickness of the novel by David Mitchell's "Cloud Atlas". Director traveled to Los Angeles, where he met with the actors, having agreed to star in his monumental project. Among them - Tom Hanks, Natalie Portman, James McAvoy, and Halle Berry.
The above-mentioned stars, according to the Playlist, already assigned to the project. The question mark only participation of Ian McKellen. However, we can already say that "Cloud Atlas" will be one of the most anticipated projects.
The book "Atlas", included in the shortlist for the Booker Prize, is the tangled stories of several characters. In the mid-nineteenth century, a lawyer returns to the U.S. from Australia, a young composer, who had to sell his soul and body in Europe between the world wars.
The journalist in California in 70th reveals a corporate conspiracy. Small publisher, our contemporaries, managed to break the bank on the gangster autobiography and running from creditors. Re-servants working in the fast-food company in Korea, a country of the winning cyberpunk. Also among the heroes there is Hawaiian goatherd on a sunset of civilization.
So far, Tykwer brings the final touches on his melodrama "Three", which will premiere at the Venice Film Festival. Before working on "Cloud Atlas" there is more decent time. The actors will need to coordinate their schedules. Natalie Portman is assigned to the screening "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies," James McAvoy is going to work on "X-Men: First Class" and Tom Hanks is busy directing his own project "Larry Crown". Halle Berry is planning to play in "Club of anonymous shoesaholic", and then play on Broadway.
Some time ago to "Atlas" was attributed Wachowski (then the brothers). Whether Lana and Andy among the writers or producers of the project is an open question so far.
Russell Brand will play a historic personality
English actor Russell Brand departs from the comedy line and gets a chance to feel the real hero on the screen. Brand will play John Hawkwood, English mercenary Italian origin who lived in the 14th century.
Despite the fact that in a real-life Hawkwood was quite a serious figure, studio 20th Century Fox is going to make history of his life thriller with comedic twists. The script writes Jared Stern, among the works which "V" and "The Princess and the Frog".
John Hawkwood worked a tailor in London, when enlisted for military service to the English king Edward III. In 1360, he led a squad of mercenaries famous "White Company", gained fame as a warrior and nicknamed L'acuto (cool), which became his name. He fought against Florence, against the Pope, against the Emperor Charles IV. Directly responsible for the carnage in Cesena in February 1377, where, according to some estimates, killed 5,000 people. A few weeks after these sad events Hawkwood, or, as he was called in Italy, Giovanni Acuto, moved to the side of Florence.
Russell Brand learned the story of a mercenary and mentioned it in conversation with the head of the comedy department of the company Chernin Entertainment Nikki Wanstock. Previously, Wanstock worked with Jude Apatow, so familiar with the Brand through the films "Forgetting Sarah Marshal" and "Get him to the greed".
Also there were carried out the necessary researches and invited screenwriter Stern, also familiar with the Brand, because rewriting the script to the comedy "Arthur" remake, in which Russell is now shooting.
When Russell Brand will leave the Renaissance, is still unknown. In September this year, the actor can be seen in the drama "The Tempest" by Shakespeare. The film will close the 67th Venice Film Festival.
