Collection of directors, strongly rejected the proposal of Disney studio to shoot the seventh episode of "Star Wars", this week joined Guillermo del Toro. He joins Brad Bird, Steven Spielberg and JJ Abrams, also abandoned the project. But, most importantly, del Toro promises to return to the "At the Mountains of Madness."
"My agent called and asked whether I was interested in "Star Wars" - said the director - And I have enough of my projects. However, I was flattered. "
Guillermo now putting the finishing touches on his film "Pacific rim", and soon he will be seen as producer of horror "Mama" with Jessica Chastain.
Del Toro will not work on the television series "The Hulk", which was planned last year. Mexican director admitted that he had not heard a word from Marvel after May.
"After the release of "The Avengers", they went into silent mode. I met with Jeff Loeb of Marvel, he said that the project is working and that they are waiting for a response from the writer. Hearing his name, I said it was cool, and it's worth the wait. Since then, not a word from them. "
And finally, the dream project of Guillermo del Toro - adaptation of Lovecraft's novel "At the Mountains of Madness" - not as dead as it seems.
"I'll try to run it again. Dive back into the abyss! Earlier this year, we will make another great presentation of the project and see what studio will be interested in it. Tom Cruise still agreed to do it. I think to make a movie with him would be cool. He helped us with this project very much".
Guillermo previously feared that "Prometheus" was the reason for the refusal of the studios “At the Mountains of Madness", but now the director thinks otherwise.
"I saw the movie, and ... Well, there is a lot to do, but you know, fuck it all! Lovecraft was before!"
Who: producer Eric Kripke and JJ Abrams now think they know everything. No Hollywood movie producers do not match the fame with Abrams. Series from JJ Abrams - and much is immediately clear. His series are very different in quality: there are masterpieces that have failures, but some general philosophy and direction of the observed times. For Kripke same is true attempt to step up a notch, giving all his best ideas to Supernatural, he left his most famous project, and take a few new ideas. Revolution and the first of them, apart from producing he is also responsible for the script.
Casting: Billy Burke, Giancarlo Esposito, Tracy Spiridakos, Tim Guinn, Zak Orth, JD Pardo and Elizabeth Mitchell!
About: The world lost electricity. Instantly and everywhere. Humanity is immersed in darkness and degraded to the agrarian state. After 15 years in one of the farming community comes punitive force of unknown function, and trying to arrest a man who was involved in some way to the oldest event. Commune, dissatisfied with this intervention, strikes up a fight, as a result of which the hero dies. His children go on a road trip for answers and his uncle, who also "knows."
What we know:
The series starts on channel NBC, which is in deep crisis. All new items, any level of quality, it safely fail and almost never get a second season.
A series of pilot is shot by Jon Favreau.
Elizabeth Mitchell will be solely in the flashbacks of the past, of which promises are not enough.
Expectations: fiction series with riddles for the last time there were many, and none of them revealed. Have not yet seen any significant differences from the Revolution has failed "Alcatraz" and "Events". For the series should be treated with a fair amount of skepticism and knowledge that no response will likely never be given. Although a couple of good ideas and creators may delight, Kripke has somehow created in a dull and hackneyed genre a good story, why not to repeat?!
The patient is more dead than alive: video game adaptation of "Bioshok" Gore Verbinski conceived back in 2008, is not an object of desire for software developers. At least so says the creator of the game, Ken Levine.
The other day in conversation with IndustryGamers Levin said: "We were very close to the screening - all signed contracts that have caught the director. But we have no immediate need to make a film just for the sake of it. For us at Irrational Games and for the company Take-Two movie on this game should be, firstly, the embodiment of all the expectations of fans, and secondly, the right to present a "Bioshok" to those who are not familiar with the game. "
"Bioshok" actions develop in the underwater city in which the passenger is the wreck of the aircraft. Over time, the hero enters into a struggle for power, but discovers that he is not so free in his actions, as it seems.
The film had planned to shoot in the studio Universal, and to the script writing was called John Logan, author of "The Aviator" and "The Last Samurai." By the spring of 2009 budget for the project grew to $ 160 million. Universal has asked Gore Verbinski to find a way filming abroad to reduce the cost of production.
Then the director left the project, which briefly caught Juan Carlos Fresnadilo. Verbinski retained the functions of producer, but because occasionally talked about the suffering fate of the movie. In the summer of 2010, Gore said that work on the "Bioshok” is difficult because of the planned "adult" rated R, but the problem with the budget will not go away.
And then we come back to the words of Levin. "Between the play and film, of course, there is a difference, but the film must be maintained by game DNA, showing its native world and story. But, you know, this adaptation is not so necessary for us”.
Cary Fukunaga, who shot a new version of the novel "Jane Eyre", accepted the offer of Universal Studios to shoot sci-fi thriller Spaceless. The director will also have to rewrite an existing script. Producer of the project was listed Gore Verbinski.
The film's protagonist - a killer who wakes up and finds that travel through space in a special suit. The only company with him is an embedded computer. Supply of air, of course, will end soon. Some time ago, the hero has entered into orbital space station to kill one of a staff member. Now he must figure out how ended up in space, but over time he begins to wonder how realistic is happening around him.
A native of California, Cary Fukunaga made his film debut in 2009 with social drama about the problems of immigrants - "Untitled."
The tape won the prize for directing and cinematography at the Film Festival "Sundance." Fukunaga then engaged in adaptation of the famous novel by Charlotte Bronte. The leading roles in his version of "Jane Eyre" were played Mia Wasikowska and Michael Fassbender.
Now Cary tries himself in fantasy. However, given his previous work, the director is not afraid to try new genre for himself.
In May this year Fukunaga received an offer from the studio Focus Features to rewrite the script of western “No Blood, No Guts, No Glory” and to shoot the film, but at what stage this project is - remains unknown.
- One of the strengths of "Super 8" is that the relationship between the guys looks very natural, they do not like those clumsy, far-fetched older scenes, which can be seen in some movies.
When the train crashes, and the city of horrible things start happening, all these events we see through the eyes of children. This approach is rarely seen in movies, usually we set out the adult point of view on history. My character is the hardest character in comparison with other guys. Despite the fact that she was the only girl in this company she has positioned herself as a leader. The fact that Alice had to grow up pretty early because of problems in the family. She has no mother, the father drinks a lot. When the boys offer her a star in an amateur horror movie about zombies, she agrees, because it is less chance of seeing his father and to spend summer vacation away from home. Their old house is in a poor part of town, and she was very sad to live there with her father. When I was shot in Super 8, I was 12 years old, and all the boys were older than me. But Ellis certainly behaves as if she is their mother. She is the strongest of the guys, and probably the loneliest.
- In the movie action happens in the summer of 1979, long before you were born. Have you tried to learn that time, "vintage" fashion of those years?
We all watched "The Goonies" and "E.T: Extra-Terrestrial" and some other classics. Personally, I've seen those films many times. They can be revised endlessly. It is time to remove the new one, incidentally, such films was not very long ago. I hope that the "Super 8" can be safely added to the list.
- In the film, you had to ride on an outdated model of a car with manual transmission. How do you like it?
It would be illegal to put me behind the wheel, so in those scenes I had an understudy. She drove the car. She sat down, so she was not visible, and push the pedals with her hands. She looked at the monitor, the image is sent from the camera attached to the hood, and when I had to turn she spun the wheel in the desired direction. My understudy is a grown-up girl, older than me. She was very nice. She was not the first time had to do a similar trick. In my opinion in a "Star Trek" she in the same way has helped the boy to drive a car. Jay Jay has an extensive experience in the shooting of children at the wheel.
- Success in Hollywood is not news in your family, but it should be, you are pleased that this time you have direct relevance to it?
All my life my sister was shot, and I was watching, traveling with her, and so it is very funny now that I'm doing something similar. She is looking forward to the movie, and she did not read the script. For her, everything is a surprise, and she is very proud of me.
- How is it to see Steven Spielberg on the set?
He knew my sister because she starred in "War of the Worlds" and I spun around a movie set and had seen him. Steven is in a very good relationship with Dakota. Should you meet with him again, it seems that you are familiar with him for one hundred years, and this feeling does not go away. Whenever he came to the site, all just forgets about everything and came to the excitement. He came once when we were shooting a scene in the cave. I hung there upside down. "Is this Steven?" - "Yes, this is Steven." Since my sister is friends with Steven, she was terribly pleased and proud that I'm involved in his project.
Playing Charles Xavier in the Matthew Vaughn film "X-Men: First Class" James McAvoy in a telephone interview with LA Times said he was ready to lose his hair and sense of humor, about a possible sequel and his onscreen buddy Magneto.
According to director Matthew Vaughn and producer, Bryan Singer, are scheduled two more parts to the new film "X-Men: First Class", an event that will flow smoothly chronologically in the original movie "X-Men" and its sequels. This means that for two films by Charles Xavier from the attractive and cheerful young man will have become a serious thinker with a bare skull - "sexless monk," as call it McEvoy.
"Ideally, there should be a storyline that links all three films, and by the end of the last you are ready to the story of "X-Men". It would be nice to shoot two pieces with interesting plot. In the "First Class" Magneto survived his major metamorphosis, found himself. Life of Charles, too, varies dramatically, and he tries to cope with it. But one question still remains: how he lost his hair? In the comics, everything is clear: he became bald in his early youth when he activated his abilities. It is clear that we didn’t go this way and now can’t start the second film with me bald in the first frame. In addition, we would have lost a tempting opportunity to come up with some great explanation of how Charles has lost his hair. Do not know yet what it will be - we need to get serious about this issue ... Maybe he used dubious Australian shampoo?"
What McAvoy had heard about the sequel.
"Gossip and hover around. All I know is that if the movie will bring cash, studio definitely wants a sequel. So far the reaction of critics was positive. But I do not think that just solve all charges. I hope that if the studio still decides to shoot a sequel, it would mean that they have found a good story. Despite the fact that in the past I've played in a couple of stupid movies, I'm glad I was a part of a team that passionately wanted to bring his idea to the screen without worrying about profit."
"We all want to make money, but we had a great idea and a cool story. The idea was to explore and find out what implored fans to understand the tiny fragments of past films, when Sir Patrick and Sir Ian meet each other. I think the idea is to create a film based on the mysteries of their past relationships, and inspired us all and me in particular".
Vaughn is not one who keeps his mouth shut, and McAvoy admits that already have heard and read some of the options for continuing stories (e.g., a delicious idea about the role of Magneto in the Kennedy assassination). He likes the attitude and energy producer, but he believes that some secrets yet should be carefully protected.
"I have a million ideas. I know that we are with Michael on the same wavelength and we will consider the possibility until the end to keep the same relationship between our heroes. One distinguishes our film from the former: there, Magneto was a villain and Professor X and the other people X - positive; in the "First Class" is not. Everything difficult, complex, and therefore we must continue to keep this level. The next movie, if it happens, should not start as if nothing happened, though, they're still friends. But it must be like the first trilogy of films, except that the action occurs in the 60's. If we shoot a sequel, let us not make of Magneto villain. Of course, he is still the guy and he has a difficult character, but if the movie will turn black and white, we lose what is so valuable in the "First Class" ... In the comics Magneto is coming, then leaves, sometimes they are on friendly terms with Charles. In the first movie (if you're a fan, then you remember) Patrick Stewart said: "Eric Lensher helped me build Cerebro", which for Professor X is a kind of Death Star. And like the Death Star in all the other films, it is always either built or destroyed".
The new project from the director of "District 9" is still gaining stars. Neill Blomkamp will continue to work in the genre of fiction - the action of "Elysium" will develop in the future, in one hundred years. Matt Damon, Jodie Foster, Sharlto Copley and William Fichtner are already approved for the roles and now them has joined a star of "Predator" Alice Braga.
Whom, exactly, will play Brazilian actress, is not yet known. Moreover, the plot of "Elysium" is carefully concealed. It is known that, as in the "District", in the next movie of Blomkamp will open one of the social problems.
Matt Damon got the role of former prisoner, Jodie Foster headed alien race, but the villain will be Wagner Moura, the star from Jose Padilla novels "Tropa de Elite". Brazilian actor makes his debut in the English-language film, while his compatriot Alice Braga is prefigured in Hollywood. The last time Braga can be seen in "Repo Men" and "Predator" and in mystical thriller "The Rite".
In January of this year, Blomkamp persuaded the 77-year old artist Syd Mead's work on the design of his new movie. Mead had a hand in a number of films that have become classics in the genre of fiction, such as "Blade Runner", "Tron" and "Aliens." Get to work Mead is very hard: designer refuses virtually to all. But he fell in love "District 9", so that Blomkamp has managed to reach an agreement.
Release of "Elysium" in the U.S. is expected on March 1, 2013.
In the meantime, we can observe the second full trailer for the sci-fi western (a marvelous combination) "Cowboys & Aliens, where starring Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford and Olivia Wilde. The plot is easy - a poor cowboy (Craig) wakes up in the middle of the Wild West and don’t remember anything. With questions like "Who am I?" Where am I? What is the year now?" he begins to wander around the neighborhood and harass passers-by. And of course, passers-by will not be tolerated such impudence.
But when the dusty little town has been attacked by a whole horde of aliens from outer space, Cowboy will join forces with the gloomy colonel Dollarhide (Harrison) in order to show alien scum who is the boss on the Earth. But at the same time he learns about the trump device, which had fastened on his hand…
Director, of this movie is Jon Favreau and after "Iron Man" he inspires serious expectations. Well, we shall see. The movie will be release soon on July 29.
1. Ben Edlund will direct the twentieth episode of this season, which promises to be a mega-emotional (and even about angels!).
2. Jensen Ackles once again sit in the director's chair for this season, and all because of fear that Jared will also wanted.
3. We are waiting for another meeting with the Reaper.
4. The wall at the head of Sam cannot stand...
5. Since the final will be a two-hour, Kripke says that it will be more like a movie.
6. Also the executive producer of the series suggests that the brothers can have many unpredictable turns of events.
7. And, oh yes, the ending is already written (by Kripke!) and its shooting has started on last Friday.
8. The war in heaven at the end of the season will likely to be completed.
9. Those who have missed for the heavenly creatures are waiting for good news - a lot of Castiel, even more than. One of the episodes will be fully dedicated to the life of this troubled angel. In addition, we will finally see the long-promised girlfriend of Castiel - Rachel.
10. Bobby Singer will direct a final.
11. By the end of the season we will be given answers to some questions: for example, what needs Big Momma and what is the price of the human soul.
12. Although, despite this, we shouldn’t wait for the logical conclusion of the final episode of the series. Rather, in the final will be a lot of hints and reserve for the future, which will leave no one indifferent. However, as noted earlier, there is a danger that the show will close before we reveal all the secrets of the supernatural world.
There are a lot of movies about the incredible will of man and his quest, but truly speaking, their quality is quite poor. Director Danny Boyle has managed to shoot rather right nice picture. "127 hours" turned out incredibly soulful and memorable.
Scenario of the tape is based on real events: self-confident and irrepressible climber Aaron Ralston once again went into the mountains to climb to the caves and enjoy the solitude, without informing at the same time none of the relatives and friends. According to a tragic accident, not by calculating own forces, he falls into a small ravine, where his arm has gotten tightly into the boulder. Food and water are too little and there is no any person around. Aaron will hopefully only for himself.
Local story would be difficult to assess. Some unexpected twists here and there, in fact, every step of the hero is very predictable, making some sort of special intrigue from the tape should not wait. However, in this case we should pay attention on not "what" producers just tell us, but "how" do they do this.
For the first few minutes, writers demonstrate audience who Aaron Ralston is, his thoughts and his nature. And a couple of flashbacks and you will know about him those all necessary things which help you fully feel his state when he got into such a violent situation.
But of course, 90 percent of picture success – is James Franco. At the moment it's almost the best role of his career. He showed great changes of emotion of the protagonist: from the panic of despair and resignation to his fate, to an incredible desire for freedom and impenetrable determination. Every look, every failure and every success of Aaron have been perceived by the audience as their own. There also were Kate Mara and Treat Williams, but their screen time is hardly significant.
To further reinforce the impression of Franco playing, Boyle has made the film very naturalistic. The scene with the Chinese knife could plunge into the shock most of the audience. From this scene you’ll really feel uneasy. But this is just the rarest case when such naturalism is justified and make the most imbued with the situation, which turned out to be the protagonist.
What can we say in the end? Of course, the film will not liked by everyone (after all, strong naturalism and a minimum of scenery might scare a lot of us). 127 hours is very emotional, atmospheric, quite simply and memorable picture, with a sense and an incredible game of James Franco.
