The era of billionaires

1 Star2 Stars3 Stars4 Stars5 Stars (No Ratings Yet)

The first half of 2011 is behind us, and it's time to take its preliminary results. The first is to recognize the truth of the creator of "Iron Man" Jon Favreau, who last year predicted a "bloodbath" keeping in mind above all a fight of the potential blockbusters of the summer season. But even he could hardly have guessed that it would be a battle of billionaires.

First, a little history. The first full-fledged multi-millionaire of our time (without any amendments there to inflation) was "Titanic", a stereoscopic version of which we can see in April 2012. While $ 1.8 billion, which earned the film by James Cameron, seemed somewhat incredible and unique.

Next time, a billionth mark was subjected to the third part of "The Lord of the Rings" in six years, and then the time intervals between successive births of billionaires have rapidly lowered. In 2006, more than a billion dollars collected movie"Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" in 2008, crossed the psychologically important milestone "The Dark Knight." The truth here is to make one important reservation. Christopher Nolan's film managed to join the club of billionaires only from the second attempt: the picture was re-released during the voting for nominees for the "Oscar".

In 2009, Cameron has excelled himself with the release of "Avatar." His $ 2.7 billion for many more years will be a guiding light for all the Hollywood producers of blockbusters. Quite possibly, only he can improve and this record.

In a year, billionaires has already begun to arrive in pairs - "Alice in Wonderland" and "Toy Story 3: The Great Escape", and the latter was the only animation project to climb this line.

And now, this year.
The first surprise has presented "Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides." So great was the power of Johnny Depp's fan base and franchise at all.

A second candidate for membership in the club of billionaires was "Transformers 3: The Dark Side of the Moon." After rather pointless second series there were some doubts about the ability of Michael Bay to shoot dignified end of the trilogy, but to the credit of the director he was able to get the job done on most errors. And although at the time of writing this note billion milestone picture has not yet been overcome, but it's only a matter of days. Finally, no one doubts that the "Harry Potter", each time stopping just one step short of a billion, will make this step after the last episode.

So 2011 has already obtained a record number of billionaires. Will have some film to join this list? Most likely not. Although the end of 2011 will come rolling in several "dark horses" like "Adventures of Tintin" and "Puss in Boots." Well, of course, do not forget sequels and blockbusters have already taken place- "Sherlock Holmes 2," "Mission: Impossible 4" and, naturally, the next "Twilight." Each of these projects can present many surprises, such as, did "Fast and the Furious 5," earned more than 600 million.

But the conclusion of the above we can do right now. Beginning in 2009, members of the elite club of billionaires grew only stereoscopic films. Given the number of potential 3D-blockbusters that come out in 2012, we can predict that the population will rapidly expand.

Peter Jackson, Michael Bay, Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Ridley Scott, James Cameron has made their choice, and when these titans say their word, the future of cinema is evident.

First week Harry Potter records at box offices

Along with record collections in North America, the final Harry Potter movie with the same unseen force attacked all the existing achievements in international and global box offices. Earning 312.3 million dollars of international fees and 481.5 million worldwide, the second part of "Deathly Hallows" with a huge stock surpassed all available here earlier records.

Even without pending on August 4, the Chinese premier undertaken by studio Warner Bros. release can be rightly called the most ambitious in the history of world cinema. Total picture shows were over 20 000 screens in 59 territories, with 9000 of them showed in three-dimensional format. They accounted for 61% of revenue came against only 43% in the U.S. and Canada.

Still very fresh in the memory of the achievement of "Pirates of the Caribbean" (260.4 million), "Harry Potter" has exceeded exactly 20%. The two previous films at the start of the franchise, in turn, were able to collect 236 million, respectively, and 205 million dollars. The potential of the remaining stock in the Chinese film market experts estimate at least 15-20 million to 50-60 million start-up and final fees.

Global revenue superiority of the second part of "Deathly Hallows" was even more overwhelming. The previous record for "Half-Blood Prince" was 394 million dollars (158 + 236 000 000), and then a sixth of Harry Potter had five days to three in the U.S. now. Previously released "Pirates of the Caribbean 4" and "Transformers 3" were in the first weekend, respectively, 350.6 and 382.4 million charges against the world's 481.5 million now.

Simple estimations suggest guaranteed conquest 500,000,000th abroad as early as Monday. The title of the movie Harry Potter and the cash billion global revenue also will not have run away from the picture. The question now is just how high it will go up in all three charts (the U.S., international and global).
We now turn to the results for individual areas and key international film market rent. By continuing tradition of the highest revenue came from Britain.

Starting on Friday, a film in three days gathered a record 23.8 million pounds, or 37.8 million dollars in 588 theaters. This corresponded to approximately 4 million tickets sold for 66.8 million inhabitants

UK and Ireland. Previous record belonged here, "Half-Blood Prince" from 19.8 million pounds, or 32.3 million dollars two years ago. The first part of "Deathly Hallows" last November for three days, has collected the 18.3 million pounds or 29.3 million dollars. Besides the main achievements records were recorded as charges on Friday, Saturday and overall charges for one day.

In second place with 27.1 sensationally million in 754 theaters was Australia. Even more impressive for the 22 millionth digit of the country is in more than two million tickets sold. It also could not resist records debut weekend and fees for one day (7.5 million Wednesday). The latest achievement was to set to "Return of the King" in December 2003, held out as a result of seven and a half years. For comparison, the first part of "Deathly Hallows" has collected 15.1 million dollars for a standard four-day weekend.

The third result of all areas ensured gave $ 26 million in 1641 cinema, Germany (2.02 million viewers). It was the best start in franchise and the third in the history of the national box office.

1195 French cinemas in the first five days of release have collected 25.7 million dollars - the best start of franchise, a new record for Hollywood projects, and the third result in the history of national products. Movie watched 2.4 million viewers.

21.9 million dollars for the first three days brought the Japanese premiere in 922 cinemas (1.2 million viewers). For comparison, the first part of "Deathly Hallows" has collected 14.6 million dollars, too, from Friday to Sunday.

15.8 million dollars 2126 cinemas (3.1 million viewers) has made a common fund in Mexico. This is an absolute record in the U.S. and second in the local currency after "Toy Story 3." The first part of "Deathly Hallows" has collected 7.92 million dollars for a weekend and 10.1 million in the first four days of release.

15.7 million dollars in 988 cinemas in Italy for the first five days of hire a new record for Hollywood releases (1.4 million viewers). It is also an absolute record of charges which are traditionally considered low season in Italy during the summer months.

11.3 million dollars in 636 cinemas in South Korea (1.4 million viewers) were far from the mill records, but still have the best result among all the projects of studio Warner Bros. The first part of "Deathly Hallows" has collected only 6.6 million dollars for the same five days of release.

For Brazil, $ 11 million in 990 cinemas have become the second result of the history and among the best releases of Warner Bros. In addition, 4.4 million dollars on Friday turned out to be a new record fee for the first day of release.

The only major film markets could not boast of anything in Spain. Debut revenue there was 8.7 million dollars in 870 cinemas. Only the fifth place with 16.3 million dollars in 2821 cinemas for three days and 18.7 million over four days has earned comedy "Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son" with Martin Lawrence in the title role. Can’t say that the film industry expectations here were high, but disbursed proceeds received far less than the results of the two previous films (25.7 million in 2,854 theaters in 2000 and 27.7 million in the 3261 movie theater in 2006), even without corrections for the inevitable, over the years inflation.

To everyone's surprise, the anticipated huge crash escaped concert film of Justin Bieber, who was sixth with 13.3 million dollars for three days and 16.4 million for four. Of course, falling to 54.9% at first glance does not look very good result, but two other youth-oriented similar projects became the victims of much large landslides. Thus, the "Hannah Montana" on the second weekend has lost 66,9% of its revenue debut, and "Concert of Jonas Brothers" has concluded it with a huge drop in 77.4%.

Clearly inspired by the current course of events studio Paramount Pictures on Monday announced its decision to go to a very unusual move. Starting from the third week rolled in theaters in addition to the usual appear and extended director's cut, which includes more than 40 minutes of additional material.

Persistent historical drama "The King’s speech" has earned 6.53 million dollars with a minimum fall by 9,7% in three days and 8.06 million for four. Hundred million plank was taken on Saturday, a 86-day release, just as in the asset's favorite Oscar race up to the big weekend, 104.8 million dollars disbursed cash.

Having serious competitors, thriller "The Roommate" on the third weekend collapsed by 52% and became the eighth with 3.91 million dollars for three days and 4.47 million for four. Total cash in 33.1 million dollars, with 16-million budget clearly indicates that the problem with the payback pattern is actually solved.

Historical action "Eagle of the Ninth" has lost 58% of its revenue debut. Painting became the ninth with 3.65 million dollars for a three-day and 4.34 million for a four-day weekend.

Successful in all respects, the romantic comedy "No strings attached" has earned 3,080,000 dollars for three days and 3.58 million for four, becoming the tenth in the chart of the weekend. In total asset the movie has 66,500,000 dollars after five weeks of release.

Total cash of top ten movies was 150.7 million dollars, which is 29% less than in a weekend day of the President Day a year ago and 14% less than two years ago.

February next weekend box office ended with the victory of the American romantic comedy "No strings attached" with Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman.

The movie with the budget of 25 million has shown quite decent results, collected 19.7 million dollars on 3,500 screens in 3018 theaters. On the eve of the announcement of the nominations came on the potential contenders for the Oscar, but in general revenue money cinemas still about 30% inferior performance of the two previous years, but attendance was the worst for this weekend since 1992. The generous contributions have made playoffs matches of the National Football League. The result of a romantic comedy debut turned around at the same level as that "What Happens in Vegas" (20.2 million in 2008), and slightly better than the "Just Married" (17.5 million in 2003). If you do not take into account the new trilogy of Star Wars, it was also one of the best starts in the career of Natalie Portman. Including any similar projects with an adult-rated R "No strings attached" is ahead of such films as "I love you, dude" (17.8 million) and "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" (17.7 million).

Recently, a popular genre usually experienced a crisis. Production costs are rising, but the fees for the most part remained mediocre, occasionally alternating with complete failure. In light of this result, 25 million project was perceived very positive. "It's a great start, and I hope it encouraged Ayven to take director's chair again in future films", - said the head of distribution Don Harris. As you know, recently the director of such box office hits as "Ghosts Hunters", "Twins", "Kindergarten cop", mostly focused on the work of a producer. Small by today's standards budget divided between Paramount Pictures, Spyglass Entertainment and production company Ayven Reitman Cold Springs Pictures.

Two debut of last weekend, escaped similar damage, respectively, a stay at the second and third singles chart. "Green Hornet" earned 17.7 million dollars for a three-day, with 47% drop-dimensional, giving a total of 63 million dollars after 10 days of release. Film kept slightly better standard adaptations of comics and superhero adventures, keeping some chances to reach 100 million mark-up products. At the same time not very good news are going lower than expected results at the international box office. Second weekend brought 18.7 million dollars in 45 territories with a total cashier at 37.4 million dollars.

Not flashed at the start of "Dilemma" Ron Howard for the second weekend produced 9.1 million dollars with a slightly larger drop of 49%. Persistently carried out by Warner Bros. analogy with such steadfast films “As Good as It Gets" and "Something’s Gotta Give" were entirely in vain, and with 33.4 million dollars in the pocket, the 70 millionth film approximately will earn 55 million final cash.

Another great weekend can bring in their weekend gathering speed historical drama "The King’s speech". Painting cost minimal losses over the weekend and collected 7.85 million dollars in 1,637 theaters with a fall of 14.5%. It is obvious that without the Sunday soccer matches this result could be much higher.
Total cash at the moment has already reached 57.3 million dollars, surpassing the final charges of the "Queen" three years ago. In addition, on Tuesday the film received 12 nominations for an Oscar (absolutely the best result among all the films this year).

In the American box office there is an expanse. The epic about the confrontation families Burns and Focker's "Little Fockers". Three-dimensional comic reinterpretation of Jonathan Swift's classic "Gulliver's Travels" with Jack Black in the title role. "True Grit" by brothers Coen, threatening to become one of the greatest achievements of filmmakers. In limited release are "The Illusionist" Sylvain Shome on the script of the legendary Jacques Tati and the last work of Sofia Coppola "Somewhere."

"Little Fockers"
Greg Focker (Ben Stiller) is the father of twins and more or less established a relationship with the father in law - a former CIA agent Jack (Robert De Niro). He plans to appoint a head-in-law family clan Burns, only in their lives once again burst into the various obstacles and absurdities, over again strain relations between the conflicted families.
The gap between second and third series of Fockers saga was in six years old. Previous franchise movies became hits (the sequel has collected in world box office more than half a billion dollars), although both films and do not represent something extraordinary - the usual, quite understandable in terms jokes comedy from the cohort of The Frat Pack with Ben Stiller. The versatility of situations and confident acting duo have played in favor of movies.
In the sequel, were added Dustin Hoffman and Barbra Streisand, in the last ten years, actually interrupted her vacation from the movie only twice, both times for these films by Jay Roach.
The third part of Fockers filmed by Paul Weitz, uses all the past series of coups, but does not issue any new themes (though the name has to) and does not offer original solutions for jokes.
That’s why the movie has so low rating at American critics, is unlikely, however, able to interfere with the commercial results of the film, which, although this time may be below the previous achievements of two earlier movie.

"True Grit"
Young Mattie Ross (Haley Staynfeld) loses her father, who was shot by Tom Cheney cowboy (Josh Brolin), once a long time dealing in gang circles.
She decides to take revenge and to employ the drinker, but an experienced marshal Rooster Cogburn (Jeff Bridges) to find and deliver the fugitive to justice, well, or, if it so happened to kill the offender. In their quest will help Texas Ranger La Boeuf (Matt Damon), which is also seeking Cheney for crimes committed in the assigned state.
When creating their version of "True Grit" the Coen brothers were guided primarily not to the classic western of 1969, but the book-source of Charles Portis. The film by Henry Hathaway one of the brothers called "good", preferring the literary version. And indeed, the film with John Wayne was too resilient enough to grim story, and most of his works fit into a single actor "Oscar" of the main American cowboy.
On account of the new movie there are a lot of positive critics’ reviews, great box office and a number of good rewards, except in the Golden Globes, whose selectors have ignored the brothers’ movie.
