Noomi Rapace prefers to work with difficult people: interview
Noomi Rapace, who performed the lead role in the thriller of Niels Arden Oplev "Dead Man Down," in an interview talked about working on a project.
- So, you met again at the same set with Niels Arden Oplev.
"At this time, I think, has been a little bit different. When we did "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" and Lisbeth lived in me, I was much angrier and more aggressive. There was not a drop of patience in me. Sometimes, I came to studio and began to wind up, "Why are we marking time? What are we waiting for? Can already start to move?" In this project, I'm calmer. I think Niels expected some big explosion on my part. Once, when I was so very quiet, he was startled, "Oh, no! We have to move!" He's very quick-tempered, and I do too. We are full of emotions."
- How did Colin Farrell fit in this mix?
"Colin and I have become close friends. Most of the film we shot in Philadelphia, and the site was built in the harbor, that is quite far from the city. On the road took about 40 minutes, so we practically built our own world on the site. We had trailers, we made fires, our kids were running a race with the dog, so it was like a gypsy camp. Sometimes Nils came from the studio and wondered: "What is good? What are you laughing? There's nothing funny!"
- What do you feel looking in the mirror at the scars, furrow your face for the role? How did it affect your perception of yourself?
"I began to think seriously about what beauty means in our lives. For women around the world is very important to be attractive and look good. People are paying more attention to you, if you look a certain way, they listen to you. You can get a lot of bonuses if you are happy owner of a beautiful face. I felt strange when something walking in Philadelphia in makeup, that is, with the scars. I bought coffee and people stared at me. Similar feelings I felt when for the role of Lisbeth shaved half a head, dyed my hair black and get pierced. I had to go to the bank, and I remember that bank employees were rude with me. Then I thought: "Why do they ignore me? What's going on?" To them, I was just a punk. People love to judge. My character has built her life, using her own beauty. She works in the beauty industry, and then one accident destroyed her life. When we see her in the film, she looks terrible. Yeah, it's all scarred, but, in my opinion, it does not make her look like a freak. Since that terrible event a year passed, and she passed through a series of surgeries, but she is not able to realize that changes are actually occurred. She is fixated on the fact that she lost".
- Were you nervous at the thought that you have to be working with such celebrities as Isabelle Huppert, who played your screen mother?
"No. You know, every time I hear about some interesting and complicated person, I immediately want to work with her. I like creative people, and usually also the ones who are full of passion and struggles in what he believes. I find them interesting. I would rather work with difficult people, than with those who all said "yes." Before I agreed to appear in "Sherlock Holmes 2", I was told that Robert Downey Jr. may be completely unmanageable, because he wants to make his own way, and all attention should be focused only to his person. But I did not see it. We read the script, assorted characters, different scenes, and Robert has something to offer, and then I said, "Yes, I agree!" He looked at me and asked, "What are you, cut me off now?" And I replied, "Yes, because I agree with you." To this he said: "Oh, I love you!" I'm not afraid of strong people, just communicating with them is a little bit dramatic shade."
- What happens to your career so far? Do you plan to live in Hollywood?
"I live in London. When you work hard, you have no right home. Next two months I'll be on the set in New York. And then, I'll go to Prague for a month. Then will come back to London. I often travel to Los Angeles, where I have a job."
- Do you want to combine Hollywood and European cinema?
"Yes. I also think that the whole film industry is becoming more and more integrated. Europeans work in Hollywood, and "Sherlock Holmes 2" and "Prometheus" we shot in London. Industry turns into a single organism."
- Are you already fluent in English?
"Yes. I've never been a good student in school, and as a teenager was insane. I went to a school that did not set homework, and I did not know how to write or read up to 14-15 years. So when started the fuss with the Millennium trilogy, and I began to participate in press conferences, I could not properly explain and understand the question. It was horrible. I felt retarded monkey. So I decided to find a way to do this language a native and be fluent in them, not translating in Swedish and Icelandic. This morning I was in the gym and doing sit-ups, thought "Fuck, I unconsciously think in English!" And I have dreams in English. Process has started. "
Forest Whitaker producer of biographical movie about Richard Pryor
Nearly 20 years in the making is one of the most famous biographical movies of Hollywood - a film about the comedian Richard Pryor. Now the picture is taken by producer Forest Whitaker, and he has already secured the support of Pryor's widow, Jennifer Pryor.
Richard Pryor - American comedian, writer and broadcaster, who was known for his uncompromising and sometimes sharp humor. Pryor, did not hesitate and spoke about the problems of African Americans. Because of his talent, Richard was one of the leading comedians. Actor Jerry Seinfeld called him "Picasso of his profession."
Since 1963, Pryor began performing in New York clubs, shared with the musician Bob Dylan and budding comedian Woody Allen. Since 1970, Prior's career took a new turn - he was called to write scripts for television. He led one of the shows, the first season of "Saturday Night Live" and in 1977 on NBC started "Richard Pryor Show", unfortunately, closed after four episodes: TV viewers did not take Pryor’s jokes.
Since the mid of 1970s, Pryor began acting in films, mostly comedies. Best known painting "See No Evil, Hear No Evil", "Stir Crazy" and "Brewster's Millions". Pryor worked on the script for the comedy of Mel Brooks' "Blazing Saddles." He was to play a major role, but the studio refused to insure him, the actor is addicted to drugs and alcohol.
In 1980, Pryor was trying to drink rum and inhale cocaine, so that caught fire and was taken to hospital with burns on the body. Severely undermining health, Richard continued to maintain the reputation of a difficult actor, he was late to the shooting, foul the air and exhibited excessive requirements (e.g, to the site he was taken in a helicopter).
Health problems gradually discourage Prior to working in film: in the early 1990s, the actor was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. David Lynch's "Lost Highway" movie has became the latest for comedian. In 2004, Pryor lost his voice. December 10, 2005 the actor suffered a heart attack and died.
Last time rumors about biography of Pryor were in October 2010, when the role of comedian was going to play Marlon Wayans, and Bill Condon should be director. Time passed, the director signed up to work on two films "Twilight" and withdrew from the project on Pryor. Other known attempts - Martin Scorsese, who even before the actor's death in 2005, wanted to put a picture of him with Damon Wayans in the lead.
Now the story of Richard Pryor has back in the news reports. Forest Whitaker takes on the producer's function and will soon begin work on a new script. Who will play Pryor in this new project is not yet reported.
How Will Smith refused from “Django unchained”
Will Smith explained why he refused to shoot in Quentin Tarantino's "Django unchained." In an interview with Entertainment Weekly the actor said: "Django was not the main character, and I always want to play a major role." Smith tried to make some changes in the script: "Like, Quentin, please I have to kill villain!" Despite the fact that Tarantino has refused to change the script, and the fact that co-operation is not fused, Will praises the picture: "It's great. But the role was not mine. "
Star of the series "Boardwalk Empire" Jack Huston has joined the cast of the untitled painting by David O. Russell, formerly the "Untitled David O. Russell Project". Christian Bale plays a con man who is working with co-worker (Amy Adams) and is forced to cooperate with the federal agent (Bradley Cooper). The film also busy Jeremy Renner, Jennifer Lawrence, Alessandro Nivola and Louis S.K.
David Letterman told James Franco, why after 1997 never called director Harmony Korine in his program. "According to legend, he pushed Meryl Streep" - suggested James. "Not exactly, - said the leader. - I went to the dressing room to greet Meryl, but there was only your friend Harmony. And he actively searched through Meryl’s purse". Franco tried to justify the director: "Now he is an adequate guy." Letterman agreed and promised to invite Korine to the studio.
Drama "Twelve years of slave" - following the "Shame" by Steve McQueen - decided on a release date in the States. Studio Fox Searchlight will release the tape on December 27, that is in the midst of Oscar season. Starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Fassbender, Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Giamatti, Paul Dano and Brad Pitt.
TV channel FX has given the green light to the series "Fargo." Director of the film Ethan Coen and Joel Cohen are the executive producers of the project. Most likely, the TV version of "Fargo" will live for only one season.
All on the same FX developed the TV series "How & Why” by Oscar-winning screenwriter Charlie Kaufman, the author of "Being John Malkovich," "Adaptation" and "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind." In Kaufman continued difficulties in financing his film "Frank or Francis," but screenwriter parallel occupied several projects, including an adaptation of the first part of a trilogy of Patrick Ness' “Chaos Walking."
Michael Keaton will shoot in Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu
Director of dramas "Biutiful" and "Babel" Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu again changed the project. Rejecting the western "The Revenant" he was eyeing to the memoirs of Jennifer Vogel "True Story of my father’s fake life" but in the end will remove the black comedy “Birdman”. Director invited to star Michael Keaton, Naomi Watts, Emma Stone and Zach Galifianakis.
The main character of the project - a former actor who once played a popular character from the comics. He goes to Broadway to return his former glory, and is trying to play in a play based on a story by Raymond Carter, but his plans may be crashed, because of a selfish of an actor, star of the theater, where the hero comes to work.
It's funny that as a former star of films on comics will star Michael Keaton, who played Batman in two films of Tim Burton.
Emma Stone will play the daughter of the hero Keaton, who had just emerged from rehab and ranked his assistant. Naomi Watts will be the counterpart of the hero on the show, while Zach Galifianakis won the role of producer of the shows.
Inarritu wrote the script in collaboration with Nicolás Giacobone, Alexander Dinelaris and Armando Bo.
For Michael Keaton “Birdman” will become a return to a great movie: actor rarely appears on the screen, especially in the lead roles. Last year, Keaton replaced Hugh Laurie in the project "Robocop", where he played the director in charge of the implementation of technology of cyborg cop.
Emma Stone is currently shooting the film "The new Spider-Man 2," and in the future actress is subscribed to the thriller of Guillermo del Toro's "Crimson Peak." Naomi Watts has worked with Iñárritu in the drama "21 Grams." This fall, Watts will be seen in the image of Princess Diana in the film, "Diana: A Love Story."
Tim Burton’s “Big Eyes” is looking for actors
Minus Ryan Reynolds and Reese Witherspoon, plus Christoph Waltz and Amy Adams - this is a casting decision of the new project of Tim Burton's "Big Eyes", which tells the life story of the artist Margaret Keane, who loved to paint lovely kids with great big eyes.
Margaret Keane, was born in Tennessee in 1927. Deeply respected the Bible since childhood, but her work has influenced not only religion, but also the relationship with her grandmother. In 1960 the artist was selling her works under the name of her second husband, Walter Keane. Having gone through a painful divorce (the husband was trying to win back the rights to her works), with the time Margaret joined the organization of Jehovah's Witnesses, which, she said, has changed her life for the better.
Keane was famous for his works with big-eyed kids. Reproductions of her works sold almost all U.S. gas stations and stores in the 1950s and 1960s.
Back in the spring of last year the movie were going to shot Scott Alexander and Larry Karatsevski. They are the authors of the script and familiar with Burton, he wrote the script for "Ed Wood." Tim was listed first exclusive producer of "Big Eye", but in the end he will settle in the director's chair. Scott and Larry will produce the picture.
"Big Eyes" are in the works for a total of 6 years. First, in drama about the artist has interested Kate Hudson, but last year the main role was aimed to Reese Witherspoon. On the role of Walter Keane confirmed Ryan Reynolds.
A half later, the concept has changed. Not only Tim Burton decided to shoot the film, but the main role was taken by other actors. Amy Adams will play Margaret and her husband - Christoph Waltz, twice received the "Oscar" for the supporting role in Quentin Tarantino. Analysts say that such a change of actors will benefit the project.
The company of brothers Weinstein TWC will finance and roll the tape. For Burton's "Big Eyes" will step away from the last big-budget project: the picture looks like a humble family drama. However, knowing Burton, one can assume that the director will find a way to add a dose of his personal tricks.
Filming "Big Eyes" will begin this summer.
“Transformers 4″ made in China
Hollywood continues its expansion into the Asian market. Last November, the producers of the film of Michael Bay, "Untitled Transformers Sequel" began talks with Chinese companies on joint production of the picture. This week it was announced China agreement.
Studio Paramount signed a deal with two Chinese companies - with China Movie Channel, under the wing of the state organization of radio, film and television, and Jiaflix Enterprises. "Untitled Transformers Sequel" will be partly filmed in China and with the participation of Chinese actors. A number of post-production work will be conduct in China. So robots of Michael Bay this time will literally made in China, as well as games of Hasbro company, which owns the franchise.
The director notes that will be extremely happy to work with Chinese companies, but more will be happy producers: China in recent years has become one of the largest markets. In particular, the "Transformers 3" started there with exorbitant sum of 56 million dollars, having collected a total of 145.5 million dollars.
In China there hard quota on the number of Hollywood films at the box office. Earlier, it was allowed only 20 foreign films per year, but in February 2012, the state has increased this figure to 34 tapes.
The Chinese care about the fate of their own movies, the attendance of which due to the increased rental Hollywood projects is declined. In 2012, charges of Chinese films accounted for about 40% of the total. It is expected that in 2014, the figure will be 35%.
And it all began quite simply, stars like Kevin Spacey, Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale starred in Chinese films, providing them with international distribution, but now it is not enough. Producers want to grab an extra piece of the Chinese pie, even for this and we have to go shoot in a foreign country with unfamiliar customs.
Co-production with Asia is bearing fruit. For example, released this year, action comedy "Journey to the West", filmed by the newly formed company Village Roadshow Pictures Asia, has already earned at the Chinese box office of more than $ 200 million. During the first weekend, the picture attracted a record amount of 93.5 million dollars for China.
Village Roadshow Ltd. - an Australian company with a U.S. subsidiary of Village Roadshow Pictures - founded its Chinese branch in 2011.
Note that the films made by Chinese companies get a different status in the Chinese box office and have a chance to earn much more than their pure American counterparts.
More recently, it was reported that China will own version of "Iron Man 3", which will include additional material and storyline with actress Fan Bingbing.
"Untitled Transformers Sequel" will be released in China on June 27, 2014th.
Paramount is preparing the third “G.I. Joe”
After the first rolling weekend “G. I. Joe: Retaliation” has gathered $ 132 million worldwide, the studio Paramount, gleefully rubbing their hands and announced the launch of the third film franchise.
It is worth recalling that the movie was released in 2009 and earned 302 million worldwide box office with a budget of 175. The decision to continue the picture was taken as much summer of 2010, and the director's chair was going to take Stephen Sommers, who shot the first film.
General, the history of producing of both "G.I. Joe" stands separate story. Just before the release of the first tape was talk about disagreements of Sommers and producers, and the test-shows of the action gathered the lowest scores in the history of Paramount. This allegedly led to the dismissal of Stephen Sommers and his removal from further work on the film. Subsequently, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura denied the rumors.
Still, the second film was given the green light. But Sommers refused to take a picture. The director has become Jon M. Chu ("Step Up 2: The Streets" and "Step Up 3D”). The main project star has become Dwayne Johnson, who agreed to star in the sequel to the summer of 2011. The other members of the team came soon: Adrianne Palicki, Ray Stevenson, Bruce Willis as the first soldier Joe and one D. J. Cothron, who was to replace Channing Tatum in the form of a young and handsome hero.
At the heart of the franchise is a series of games, produced by Hasbro.
According to the plot of the sequel Tatum died in the beginning. When the film was finished, the ill-fated test views showed that viewers are not enough Channing participation: for as long as the film was shot, the actor managed to gain additional popularity. And on May 24 the 2012, just a month before the start of ""G.I. Joe"" at world release, Paramount decided to postpone the release for 9 months and to shoot several scenes with Tatum, converting tape into 3D.
"G.I. Joe 2" cost the studio $ 130 million, that is cheaper than the original film. Analysts predict a project about 410 million in worldwide box office, that is a hundred more than the film's predecessor.
Not yet assigned the writers, not yet reported, who will be in the director's chair, and who will return from the original line-up, but you can say one thing: "G.I. Joe" will be shot in 3D.

“Avatar” will be shot under the water
Producer Jon Landau said that filming sequel to "Avatar" by James Cameron will be held not only on land, but under water. Motion capture technology has not yet been used in the water, so Cameron will be a pioneer in this field again.
"We have kept a team of experts on digital technology of "Avatar" to see how to shoot underwater with motion capture, - says Landau. - We have turned the simulation of water, but it is impossible to simulate the behavior of the actors. So we will do motion capture in the pool. "
In essence, the process is still the same: the camera will record the signals from reflective markers on the actors' costumes. That's just before that no one did.
At the same time Jon Landau denied rumors that Cameron went down into the Mariana Trench for material for the sequel of "Avatar." "He is a researcher! Of course, he was shooting a lot, but it is not connected with "Avatar".
The producer says the use of the latest technologies in the work on "Avatar 2" and "Avatar 3", but what about the high frame rate (HFR)? Cameron has repeatedly referred to the opportunity to work with this standard, first tested on Peter Jackson's "The Hobbit: Unexpected Journey". "HFR better for the viewer - says Landau. - But no one should dictate directors, at what frame rate to make a film - 24, 48 or 60 frames per second. "
Landau was weighed a lot of compliments to the work of Jackson, but notes the difference between movies. ""The Hobbit"- another movie with a different history and a different tone, and Peter has chosen the right creative solution for that he must be respected."
While we are talking only about the format 3D. And then the producer is sure to continue to shoot "Avatar" in stereo.
Among other innovations, the continuation of "Avatar" will get a new sound system, developed by Cameron and Landau's Lightstorm Entertainment studio in Manhattan Beach. However, the producer recalls that attention is not to focus on the special effects, and the story, "The audience comes to the cinema not for a new technology, and for the emotional component of history."
Eric Kripke and Elizabeth Mitchell about the second half of the season “Revolution”
After a long hiatus, Revolution finally returned to NBC on March 25 with the second half of the season. Executive producer Eric Kripke and actress Elizabeth Mitchell in an interview promised a better future of the show.
"When you're off-air for four months, you can only hold your breath and hope that the fans will return - said Kripke during a teleconference. - The break has given to producers and writers the time to understand what works in this show, and what does not and how to make it better. It allowed us to make TV series better and this is my main priority. The series will be better because of the hiatus".
Although the last time “Revolution” came four months ago, the premiere of the second half of the season under the title «The Stand» starts right where the last episode ended. Miles (Billy Burke) and Charlie (Tracy Spiridakos) finally found Danny (Graham Rogers), and took him and Rachel (Mitchell) from the hands of Monroe (David Lyons). But Monroe used an amp, which gave him Rachel and began a full-scale attack against the refugees.
"The first part of the season and the search for Danny was the prologue and much more exciting story - says Kripke, adding - I like the first half, but the second one is better, no doubt."
Kripke and Mitchell promised us five things to expect from the return of “Revolution”:
- Key issues, including the cause of blackout, will be answered.
"This is my style - says Kripke. - Ask questions, ask more questions and to answer them. In the second half of the season viewers can expect this. I prefer the aggressive, exciting pace of the narrative. In the thirteenth episode, Rachel fully tells the whole story about why there was a blackout. Every time I watch this scene, I think, “Wow, we just take and tell it like it is. " The lack of scenes in which the main secrets are laid in three minutes, is contrary to instinct of director".
- We'll learn more about the history of Miles and Rachel.
"One of my favorite scenes - a future scene with Miles in the moonlight on the water, there are beautiful dialogues and shooting. It was simple and sweet - just the kind of scenes that I like to play and watch, "- says Mitchell.
"You could say that this scene hints at a deeper and more complex story between Rachel and Miles - says Kripke. Basically, the scene is based on looks, but a lot is passed in a little conversation. "
"Well, we'll find out about their relationship - adds Mitchell. -They are deeper and richer than I thought. There is a theory that people are together due to common pain. I think that in the hearts of Rachel and Miles are experiencing the same thing. "
- Mysterious science of Grace (Mary Howell) returns to the key role.
"At the end of the 7th and 8th episode we discovered that Randall (Colm Fiore) brought her to a mysterious place - said Kripke. - On the 11th episode we'll tell you what is this place, why Randall led her of what he called her to and so on. This place is very important to the plot, it became the center of the universe, figuratively speaking. All characters drawn there because of the importance of the place and importance of Grace herself."
- Charlie and Nate (JD Pardo) relationships
"Nate's waiting for radical changes in the relationship with his father (Giancarlo Esposito) and the police - says Kripke. - Charlie "sitting in the front seat" in these dramatic turns. Between them will be attraction. And then we demolish because the main question here is, whether they are together or not, and whether they will pass the obstacles that have to? "
- Let Rachel is no longer a prisoner of Monroe, but her problems are just beginning.
"Events in the first episode ... - Mitchell said warily. - Bet my character can certainly be even higher, but I do not see how. Its primary objective - the protection of the family. Amazingly, it did not break. "
"In the last moments of the 11 episodes you will find a crazy twist - says Kripke of the crucial scene with Rachel. - Everything is so exquisite and so beautiful that I can not believe this is happening. Will be tears and knives. The scene is just gorgeous. "
