Westerns as a genre are in limbo during the whole 21 century. Movies about Wild West are practically not released, and those that are available – have fallen in box offices. In 2010, the Coen brothers finally changed this tradition, and their "True Grit" became a hit American products. But here there is a very strange situation: on the one hand ever for a revival of popularity the genre needs commercial hit more than ever, but on the other hand – this film is not so really cool to deserve so many accolades. It has been corny overrated.
Scenes in Westerns have always been very simple (usually something like "Crossing the bandit from point A to point B") and "True Grit" does not change this tradition. History tells us about young fourteen year old girl who hires a ranger and a senior marshal, and with them goes to look for the murderer of his father. However, this path will be very long.
When you see in the credits, the names of the Coen brothers, you are waiting for something special and extra ordinary. But, alas, here from the Coen themselves has almost nothing left: most characters are dull, plot has no surprises during the whole movie, and the dynamics has visited this film only in the last 20 minutes. And this is perhaps the main problem of the picture – it has no power, some spirit of adventure, of life, if you want. With works of the Coen this happens very rarely.
The only thing that can boast writers, in the main character - her stubbornness, impenetrable will to live and finish the case were transferred just fine. A lot of these have contributed to the young actress Hayley Staynfeld, in whose talent after this role, there are no doubts. Other actors are also good - Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon and Josh Brolin are very charismatic in their roles.
There is no action here, that’s why the movie is a little dull. But even with the benefit of recreating an era in which takes place the movie, creators have coped well: costumes, camera work and human manners - all this is done at the proper level.
The next segment of the action-saga "Die Hard" will direct Noam Murro, which is currently responsible for the creation of only one feature-length films - "Smart People" and clearly express himself in a shooting of numerous commercials. For some of them Murro was marked with thematic prestigious awards, including prizes of the festival "Cannes Lions".
It is known that the bosses of 20th Century Fox studio was impressed by the work done by Murro for an advertising campaign timed to the release of the game Halo: Reach.
So now Murro will be responsible for the embodiment of the fifth "Die Hard". The author of "Wolverine" and updated "Team A" Skip Woods writes the script. Bruce Willis has not yet signed on to shoot, but does not hide his interest in the project.
The fourth series is full of dangerous adventures of brave cop John McClain came out in 2007. Tape was directed by Len Wiseman, with a budget of $ 110 million "Die Hard" has gathered at the box office of almost 400.
The exact date of the film release remains unknown.
Jason Statham, starred in the blockbuster "The Mechanic", in an interview with Collider resource responded to questions about the projects "Expendables 2" and "Crank".
- You have gotten a wonderful creative alliance with Mark Neveldayn and Brian Taylor. What first comes to mind when you ask about "Crank" and "Crank 2: High Voltage," and whether you think that will be removed and a third film?
I am ashamed to admit, but the second film has turned out not as good as the first. The first had a great success. In addition, usually when the sequel is removed, it needs more money.
- Yes, the second movie was crazy.
Yes, absolutely, and it just reflects the inner world of this couple of directors. I have no idea, whether we'll take a third part. Who knows? It was just cool to work with these guys, not like other directors. They are perfect fools. By the way, Neveldayn not so long ago moved out of the city and completely changed his lifestyle. I do not know how he is interested in filming of the next part.
- They're currently shooting "Ghost Rider 2", then, they are back in the game.
We are always in touch with them. The idea of a third part is present, but I don’t know whether we will realize it.
- Have you heard something about "The Expendables 2"?
Yeah, I heard about the sequel and will be the first who’ll say "yes" if Sly will call me. When the picture just came out in the lease and began to receive positive feedback, we talked with Sly about how it would be cool to do something like that again. And if there is a person who is able to remove a worthy sequel, then it’s only Sly Stallone! We had a great time. This is what I would like to repeat.
- How do you usually design your shooting schedule? You work simultaneously on multiple projects, or prefer to queue them all?
Sometimes I just "sew." For the first time in several years for the next few months I have no plans. Usually in January the last three years before me was precise schedule. The trouble is that once you sign the contract, once there is a danger that you might miss something very important. All that I am planning now is a couple of projects, but now I'm waiting just Stallone's next film - "The Expendables 2".
- It was suggested a lot of assumptions that "there will be definitely a sequel", "may be" ...
Likely to be. I'm waiting for positive outcome.
- Hence, is this that project you are waiting for?
Yes. Right now - this.
The Hollywood Reporter has published a shortlist of contenders for the main female roles in the film "The Dark Knight Rises". As you know, one of the actresses will be villain, and another - love of Bruce Wayne.
In the next two weeks, five actresses will record a sample for a new film by Christopher Nolan. According to sources there are: Keira Knightley, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Biel, Kate Mara and Charlotte Riley. The sixth contender could be Gemma Arterton, but the English actress last week agreed to star in a fairy tale "Hansel and Gretel: Hunters for witches", which can cause mismatch of working schedules.
If Knightley, Hathaway and Bill are already well known, the other two actresses are not yet popular in a star league. American Kate Mara has been filmed more than 10 years ago. Soon it will be seen in the drama "127 hours", as well as in the film "The tenth year." Recently, Kate has eclipsed by her younger sister, Rooney Mara, who has got the role in the thriller "The Girl with the dragoon tattoo".
Charlotte Riley was born in the UK. His most important role was in "Wuthering Heights", filmed for television. Riley played Cathy and Tom Hardy has played Heathcliff, who is known, is also engaged in a third "Batman". Among other things, Charlotte starred in "Easy Virtue", where the lead female role was played by Jessica Biel.
Nolan still does not tell exactly who will be the main heroine. It is rumored that one of them will be the daughter of Ras Al Ghul - Talia Al Ghul. According to the comics, it is not only the protagonist but also the beloved of Bruce Wayne, who gave birth to a son. Another heroine can be a reporter Vicki Vale, whose image is embodied on the screen by Kim Basinger in "Batman" by Tim Burton.
News about Christopher Nolan's project are popular in recent days. Someone has read carefully merged into the network scenario of new "Batman", and someone gives his head on pruning, that the main female roles approved by Naomi Watts and Eva Green. Because all Nolan movies are surrounded by dense veil of secrecy, then the amount of distributed rumors is quite natural.
Director of "The Exorcism of Emily Rose" cannot decide with a new film. After the remake of "The Day when the Earth Stood Still" Scott Derrickson took up a variety of projects - from the film adaptation of "Hyperion" to sci-fi thriller "The Substitute". Now Derrickson has focused his attention on the story of David and Goliath.
Studio Relativity Media has acquired a script by John D. Payne and Patrick McKay and is going to give it a contemporary feel in the style of "The Bourne Identity" and "300", so that the biblical story will get a new reading in the genre of action.
As writes The Hollywood Reporter, the story begins with what a ferocious warrior Goliath goes in search of a future king of Israel. Meanwhile, a young shepherd, David sets off after him and fighting not only for his life, but also for his loved ones, and ultimately for his own people. Final battle between David and Goliath is promised to be authentic. Will the beheading of Goliath in the frame in light of the tendency of Hollywood to the children's rated PG-13, is not yet known.
Story of David and Goliath interested filmmakers with the 20-ies. Thanks to the Italian cinema in the 60's Goliath was the hero of historic fighters. Released in 1959 film "Horror barbarians" was so popular at the box office, that the Italians have filmed all four movies about Goliath. They were not related among themselves, and the role played by the mighty king of different actors.
Cinematic Goliath had hard times. In addition to a variety of enemies it fought with the evil spirits, such as vampires:
Asian films (and Korean, in particular) are produced in two ways: one tape for the domestic market, and another one for international. The former have their own, with nothing comparable logic of the narrative, which hardly anyone understands outside of Asia, while the latter manage to do without the flying ninjas and thus follow the logic, understandable Western audiences. "The Warrior’s Way" by Korean writer and director, debutant Sngmu Lee, has been filmed on American money and is trying to unite the entire eastern attributes such as swords, military, philosophy, flying samurai and supernatural plot with typical "western" genre.
It is worth noting that the plot of this film is very similar to last year's US-Asian action film "Ninja Assassin", where the main character also refuses to murder, and eventually own clan announces hunt for him. The only difference in the time interval: the Wild West here, and in "Ninja Assassin" is a modern metropolis. Those spectators who happened to look a pair of such tapes without difficulty they will bite each subsequent plot episode. Even the whole maximalism of samurai fighters: if the main character - "the best swordsman in the history of mankind", he necessarily afford single-handedly put tens if not hundreds of opponents and does not knock the breath.
By itself, the story is very short and in some places is too stretched. During half hours there are too little actions. Some of the episodes too short, other ones are too long.
However, these genre movies fans are looking more charming for the sake of fighting, combat philosophy, and visual beauty than for the sake of the plot. And if the philosophy is all much more clearly (storyline, "Teacher-student" is made in the best tradition), here's the visual side came out a controversial situation. On the one hand, we have a stylish picture where rainfall is very fruity combine with shiny suits of samurai. And as another striking appearance of these most samurai immediately raises thoughts about the upcoming spectacular carnage.
With the cast affairs are not much better. Geoffrey Rush appears in the picture too seldom and every time drunk. It’s funny! Perhaps, only Chang Dong Gun (Lead Actor) looked good in a frame and up until the very end of his professionalism was not questioned. Star of one of the best Korean films "The 38-th parallel" here plays a very collected and even when silent at his pleasure to watch. Can’t be said about Kate Bosworth, which despite the large amount of screen time (if not more, than that of the Ghana), failed to show anything like a coherent game. Danny Huston in the role of rogues is nice, but it's more merit of his actions personage than the charisma of the actor.
Way of the Warrior - an extremely controversial US-Asia project, which can’t be named even action. The same "Ninja Assassin" with equally weak story and acting, could be interested really strong contractions. In this case, even fans of the genre, quietly digesting local narrative conventions, will be disappointed useless action-scenes (the final does not count) and weak acting. Yes, the movie is not talentless, and someone may even like it, but don’t wait of this movie special delight!
In an interview with the Popsugar resource Angelina Jolie, who performed the lead female role in the thriller "Tourist," talked about her family life, the political aspirations of Brad Pitt and about her relation to plastic surgery.
About their with Pitt relation to gossips.
"Believe me, all the rumors about our problems- is nonsense. We ignore them because this is nonsense. We laugh when we hear such bullshit, because we have everything in order."
About the rumors that Brad will probably run for president.
"Well, it's a new for me. He would have revived the White House fast enough. But I think now he's a little busy ..."
About her work with Johnny Depp.
“It turned out that Johnny and I are both hermits by nature ... so our paths never crossed. We do not like to hang out, go out, so to speak, in the light. And, in my opinion, we do not take ourselves quite seriously. Perhaps it's because we both love our families, for us it’s everything - to be with people close to us. We’ve spent time together, having met the families: Brad, Vanessa, and children. It was great. Such an idyll family. "
About the time she spends with Brad.
"From time to time we cease to be a mom and dad. I think for any parent it is very important to love their children, but at the same time, it is imperative to concentrate on your partner. This will make your relationship stronger. And because you are a strong couple, your children will only get better. "
About mom role.
"I hope my children feel that they are deeply loved and are in good hands. On the other hand, we together with Brad encourage manifestation of their personality. That's why we have six very strong by spirit children."
About Sheila style.
"She loves to dress like a boy and she likes short haircuts. Sometimes she asks her to call John. Some kids like cloak with a hood, like Superman, and she wants to be like her brothers. For us, her preferences in dress were a big surprise, but she is so funny and cute that she had to face all these boyish pieces. And she loves neckties... "
About plastic surgery.
“I have not used the services of plastic surgeons, and do not think I ever turn them. If someone is happy with such procedures, so why not. But I have no such plans!”
About busy schedule of work.
"I love it. I like being active, busy and solve a lot of questions”.
Supersecret CIA agent, a retired Frank Moses (Bruce Willis) tries to live a normal life. Every morning, he regularly makes charging a Christmas puts in front of a house glowing snowman with deer and, occasionally, awkwardly flirting on the phone with the employee of pension fund Sarah (Mary-Louise Parker).
Operator Sarah life is still boring, she dreams about the exotic countries and dreaming of adventures, reading spy novels, but grows avocados retired periodically makes her genuine interest. Meanwhile, in the stored deep in the vaults of the CIA personally towards citizen Moses says - "RED", "Retired, Extremely Dangerous".
One night at Frank's house, masked men break into and trying hard to kill him, but, of course, unsuccessfully.
Grabbing operator in his arms and gathered a team of the same brave pensioners, he begins to inexorably steamroller deal - with what purpose the former employer so wishes to get rid of them all. It comes to visiting the Embassy of the Russian Federation, brazen intrusion into the well-known building in Langley, and even kidnapping of U.S. vice-president.
Mixing genres of comedy-action-comic became recently popular, but only few directors were managed to mix, without stirring. German director Robert Schwentke under the watchful eye of the inveterate producer of "Transformers" Lorenzo di Bonaventura did it in full.
Bruce Willis, of course, as usual – talented! This time, he is shyly in love with the operator Sarah. Honored Retired of Hollywood Morgan Freeman plays Morgan Freeman and is a friend of hero Bruce Willis. Even loving KGB officer Ivan Simanov (Brian Cox) has been showed as surprisingly authentic, and most importantly, positive.
With no doubt, the film is great! Guaranteed success from watching the family (PG-13), swear words a bit, extremely unpleasant scene is only one. Special effects, there are almost always invisible, everything explodes…
There are some dies, but they please the eye rather than annoying. The story is a little slow, what could be the laws of the genre, but it can only benefit, the viewer to make all on a silver platter, and bordered - with thingies. Over time, DVD "RED" legitimately will take its place on shelves and cabinets for a leisurely and relaxed, but entertaining family viewing.
Director of the fourth "Bourne" series Tony Gilroy last weekend said that he was going to approach the film with a somewhat unexpected quarter. Despite the fact that the project has been called "The Bourne Legacy" as one of the novels about spies, it would not be based on the book. Gilroy promises an original storyline, in which there is no Jason Bourne.
"I read the news that I was appointed a director and would like to clarify something - said Gilroy in conversation with Hollywood insider Jeffrey Wells. "Bourne Legacy" is not a reboot or prequel. We're not going to replace another actor Matt Damon. We will have a brand new hero. The film will stand alone and does not depend on the already filmed trilogy".
It is worth noting that the novel is titled "The Bourne Legacy" was released relatively recently - five years ago. Its author was listed, Wang Lastbader, not Robert Ludlum, composed the book, on the basis of which has been filmed the previous movie.
"Probably the easiest way to describe the project as an extension of the existing universe - says Tony Gilroy. - Jason Bourne would not be in the movie, but he is alive and well. Events featured in the trilogy, will be the starting point to events in our film. I'll build a new environment, come up with a legend and an expanding network of conspiracies. Our new world will change and move up, and eventually Jason Bourne come back. "
It is worth remembering what Gilroy is behind all three existing movies - he worked on scripts. It is also interesting that the director does not preclude the return of Bourne. So if Matt Damon is still again decides to play a spy, he will easily fit into new universe.
1). Mickey Rourke will play a hitman Richard Kuklinski, nicknamed "Ice Man" in the film adaptation of the novel by Philip Carlo "The Ice Man: Confessions of a Mafia Contract Killer". Obviously, the filmmakers believe that Mickey, with his drunken face, promiscuity and energetic use of mind-expanding substances, ideally suited to the role of cold-blooded assassin. It also became known that Rourke will play not just a hired killer, but a conscious assassin who hates rapists, and loves children (in a good way). Movie script writer will be David McCann ("American History X").
2). Good news coming from filming "Sherlock Holmes' 2", directed by brave Briton Guy Ritchie. Robert Downey Jr. as a great detective still furiously waving his fists and struck amazement of the public wonders of logic and deductive method, Jude Law still cools his ardor as a cold-hearted Dr. Watson, but the main female role now will play Noomi Rapace. The actress is more or less known to us only on recent Swedish film "Girl With the Dragon Tattoo". The role of the girl in the film remains unexplained.
3). Inspired by success of his new movie about the sinister Zombies "Resident Evil 4: After Death", Milla Jovovich spurts of energy and plans for the next one fifth franchise. According to her, director, producer, screenwriter of all fourth series Paul Anderson (who concurrently is her husband) already managed to pick up a couple of ideas for fifth, but happy to get acquainted with the fan ideas about the new film, if any, will follow.
4). Bad news for fans of the series "The Big Bang Theory" and specifically Sheldon Cooper. Actor Jim Parsons, who plays a brilliant nerd, recently announced his own homosexuality, and that he was engaged with his boyfriend Todd Spivak and intends to marry, in December of this year.
5). Sylvester Stallone has decided to declare his love to Arnold Schwarzenegger. In an interview with Los Angeles Times, he said the following: "When people ask me who is the most extraordinary guy I ever met? I reply that it was he. Think about it - the enormous strength of will and the fact that he succeeded in three different and extremely difficult problems ... He was and remains the most influential builder today. While in Hollywood with his biography, of Austrian origin and not being an American, he became a number one. Besides politics, it is stunningly complex. And now he is a governor of California, that's all, just a governor of the largest state in terms of population. This is not some kind of city council ... He would be a good candidate for the presidency. This is fucking cool!"
