Westerns as a genre are in limbo during the whole 21 century. Movies about Wild West are practically not released, and those that are available – have fallen in box offices. In 2010, the Coen brothers finally changed this tradition, and their "True Grit" became a hit American products. But here there is a very strange situation: on the one hand ever for a revival of popularity the genre needs commercial hit more than ever, but on the other hand – this film is not so really cool to deserve so many accolades. It has been corny overrated.
Scenes in Westerns have always been very simple (usually something like "Crossing the bandit from point A to point B") and "True Grit" does not change this tradition. History tells us about young fourteen year old girl who hires a ranger and a senior marshal, and with them goes to look for the murderer of his father. However, this path will be very long.
When you see in the credits, the names of the Coen brothers, you are waiting for something special and extra ordinary. But, alas, here from the Coen themselves has almost nothing left: most characters are dull, plot has no surprises during the whole movie, and the dynamics has visited this film only in the last 20 minutes. And this is perhaps the main problem of the picture – it has no power, some spirit of adventure, of life, if you want. With works of the Coen this happens very rarely.
The only thing that can boast writers, in the main character - her stubbornness, impenetrable will to live and finish the case were transferred just fine. A lot of these have contributed to the young actress Hayley Staynfeld, in whose talent after this role, there are no doubts. Other actors are also good - Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon and Josh Brolin are very charismatic in their roles.
There is no action here, that’s why the movie is a little dull. But even with the benefit of recreating an era in which takes place the movie, creators have coped well: costumes, camera work and human manners - all this is done at the proper level.

The next segment of the action-saga "Die Hard" will direct Noam Murro, which is currently responsible for the creation of only one feature-length films - "Smart People" and clearly express himself in a shooting of numerous commercials. Now Derrickson has focused his attention on the story of David and Goliath.
Studio Relativity Media has acquired a script by John D. Payne and Patrick McKay and is going to give it a contemporary feel in the style of "The Bourne Identity" and "300", so that the biblical story will get a new reading in the genre of action.

Asian films (and Korean, in particular) are produced in two ways: one tape for the domestic market, and another one for international. The former have their own, with nothing comparable logic of the narrative, which hardly anyone understands outside of Asia, while the latter manage to do without the flying ninjas and thus follow the logic, understandable Western audiences. "The Warrior’s Way" by Korean writer and director, debutant Sngmu Lee, has been filmed on American money and is trying to unite the entire eastern attributes such as swords, military, philosophy, flying samurai and supernatural plot with typical "western" genre.
It is worth noting that the plot of this film is very similar to last year's US-Asian action film "Ninja Assassin", where the main character also refuses to murder, and eventually own clan announces hunt for him. The only difference in the time interval: the Wild West here, and in "Ninja Assassin" is a modern metropolis. Those spectators who happened to look a pair of such tapes without difficulty they will bite each subsequent plot episode. Even the whole maximalism of samurai fighters: if the main character - "the best swordsman in the history of mankind", he necessarily afford single-handedly put tens if not hundreds of opponents and does not knock the breath.
By itself, the story is very short and in some places is too stretched. During half hours there are too little actions. Some of the episodes too short, other ones are too long.
However, these genre movies fans are looking more charming for the sake of fighting, combat philosophy, and visual beauty than for the sake of the plot. And if the philosophy is all much more clearly (storyline, "Teacher-student" is made in the best tradition), here's the visual side came out a controversial situation. On the one hand, we have a stylish picture where rainfall is very fruity combine with shiny suits of samurai. With the cast affairs are not much better. Geoffrey Rush appears in the picture too seldom and every time drunk. It’s funny! Perhaps, only Chang Dong Gun (Lead Actor) looked good in a frame and up until the very end of his professionalism was not questioned. Star of one of the best Korean films "The 38-th parallel" here plays a very collected and even when silent at his pleasure to watch. Can’t be said about Kate Bosworth, which despite the large amount of screen time (if not more, than that of the Ghana), failed to show anything like a coherent game. Danny Huston in the role of rogues is nice, but it's more merit of his actions personage than the charisma of the actor.
Way of the Warrior - an extremely controversial US-Asia project, which can’t be named even action. The same "Ninja Assassin" with equally weak story and acting, could be interested really strong contractions. In this case, even fans of the genre, quietly digesting local narrative conventions, will be disappointed useless action-scenes (the final does not count) and weak acting. Yes, the movie is not talentless, and someone may even like it, but don’t wait of this movie special delight!
