One-third of Americans prefer to watch movies in 3D
Supporters and opponents of the three-dimensional cinematography will be curious to know the results of a study conducted by Opinion Research Corporation among Americans older than 18 years. 52% of respondents saw the movie in 3D, and 71% of them prefer usual two-dimensional session.
Opinion of Research Corporation surveyed 1,011 Americans aged 18 years. Of these, only 52% saw at least one film in 3D in the past three years. Among the 71% watched stereoscopic viewers said they would choose a session in 3D, while 31% said viewing experience "incredible."
The results of each case study with a strong desire can be interpreted in different ways. Hollywood and companies promoting 3D, clung to the figure of 71% and warn that the majority of Americans prefer three-dimensional movies.
"The audience wisely choose which movies to watch in 3D, but according to our results, they clearly understand that watching a movie in 3D is much more entertaining, more interesting and more valuable," - says the president of the international community to 3D, Jim Chebin. The survey was commissioned by the community, so anywhere in the message are the words of its president.
However, the numbers tell a somewhat different, as the authors website / film. Of the 526 people in 1011 saw the films in 3D, and if you take from the 52% even 71%, you get that from 1011 only 373 people surveyed would prefer a three-dimensional two-dimensional films. It's a little more than a third of the respondents.
The name of the article in Variety says: "The poll showed the audience that the best movies are in 3D." It would be more correct to call it a "One-third of Americans prefer to watch movies in 3D», but Hollywood would love it a lot less.
Wall Street reacts on 3D format
Investors are gradually beginning to raise questions about the need to release movies in 3D. Charges of "Pirates of the Caribbean 4" were regarded as low, but now bad launch of "Kung Fu Panda 2" once again confirmed the trend: audiences are less willing to pay per view movie in glasses.
Animated film from DreamWorks, which cost about $ 150 million, went to American screens last week. Given the prolonged weekends (from the Americans was Memorial Day), the second "Panda" has collected about 53.5 million dollars. At the same time, the comedy "Hangover II", despite the rating R (children under 17 years are permitted only when accompanied by adult), as well as the lack of 3D, earned 117.5 million dollars, twice as much.
Viewers do not want to pay extra money for inconvenient eyeglasses and dull image, analysts say. Now, writes of Deadline, reacted to the collections of films and on Wall Street. Shares of the company RealD, which designs fashionable technology, yesterday, fell by 12%. In total, over the past two weeks, the drop was 23%.
Charges of "Panda 2" is not long in coming and promotions DreamWorks Animation, all their cartoons graduating in 3D. Compared with last year they fell by 20%. Charges of screenings of sequel "Kung Fu Panda" in 3D accounted for 45% of the total fees the film in the States. For comparison: last year's "Shrek Forever" in 3D brought to cinemas 60% of the total fees for the weekend. In this case, it is worth considering that the number of rooms are adapted to show the volume of films, was for 343 less.
One of the biggest critics of the format of Wall Street, a company spokesman BTIG Richard Greenfield recommends getting rid of shares of DreamWorks Animation, as the "movie studios didn’t meet expectations."
The cost of watching a movie in 3D for the American family of three is around $45, which can be added to the cost of popcorn, drinks and pay for parking. Taken together, easily translates into $100.
Sylvain Chomet: next work will be in 3D
The producer of animated paintings "The Triplets of Belleville" and "The Illusionist" Sylvain Chomet has already dabbled in feature film, shooting a segment for the anthology "Paris, je t'aime." In the director's plans are first attempt at shooting in 3D.
"I would really like to remove the full-length feature film, - said Chomet in an interview. - I really enjoyed working on the project "Paris, je t'aime." It was totally new experience for me as opposed to animation, where I come from. I have a lot of ideas for a feature film. Of course, it will differ from the pictures, which remove the directors who have not worked with the animation. Rather, it will be like the movies of Terry Gilliam, Tim Burton or Jean-Pierre Jeunet - they all came to the cinema from animation".
"The Illusionist" is based on the scenario, directed by Jacques Tati. As he painted the image of the protagonist of the picture - an elderly magician Monsieur Hulot. He is losing popularity at home in France and sent to England to give a career a second wind. In the end, he finds his home spectators, which is a girl from Edinburgh, who believe that Monsieur Hulot - a true magician.
Tati wrote the script in the first 50 years, but found it too personal and did not put it on film. Daughter of the director has seen "The Triplets of Belleville", appealed to Chomet and offered to make "The Illusionist" animated film and give the hero traits of his father. "She did not want some actor playing him - said Chomet. - So in 2003 I’ve read the script and began preparations for the shooting".
While the director was summoned to Hollywood to work on "The Tale of Despereaux", but relations with the producers went wrong, and Sylvain Chomet focused on "The Illusionist".
French director says about his plans: "It is unlikely that my next movie will be two-dimensional. To draw by hand is rather long process. So it will be animation in 3D or feature film. We'll see”.
The game is over – “Saw 3D”
"Saw" - one of the most popular horror franchises of our time, and certainly the most successful in terms of total charges for all episodes. Fans of detective stories have watched these movies for the sake of surprise endings under the traditional melody of Charlie Clauser and fans of bloody massacre - for spectacular traps and subsequent executions of people caught in these same traps. But as it is often happened with horrors, they are just started churning, moving further and further away from the quality of the first episodes.
The plot of the seventh "Saw" refers to the origins of the franchise, and returns to the screen (albeit in the background) of one of the main characters of the first part - Dr. Gordon, who has yet to play a role in the multistage plan of deceased designer.
Meanwhile, detective Mark Hoffman is trying to hide the remaining evidence of his villainous activities in parallel punishing racists, rock beauties and wicked writers.
One of the main chips of franchise have been constant flashbacks, opening new and new details of Saw life taking place behind the scenes of the previous parts and unites all the pieces into a coherent picture. Screenwriters, as they could, have been inventing new and new causes of Tobin Bell appearances on the screen (the irreplaceable role of the artist designer) but for the finale of the movie I had impression that they themselves have become entangled in their own plot twists and turns. Frankly controversial plot twists in the finale instead of the shocking effect give you a feeling of bewilderment rather than a surprise.
Guys haven’t already known what else to say in so jaded plot and therefore attentive viewer will notice a lot of inconsistencies and logical holes in local history.
But of course, for those who crave the bloody spectacle, and to whom all these detective tricks are not interesting, with no doubt will delight this tape. New traps of Hoffman are no less bloody than the previous ones, and some (the scene of punishment of racists) and affected the originality and implementation. Thanks to the stereoscopic effect, now guts throw out at you right from the screen, which really gives a new sensation. So, your inner Jack Ripper will be pleased.
However, from a technical point of view – everything is good.
The conclusion from the above is the following: the franchise came to a standstill. Of course, dedicated fans will deny this and claim to continue the banquet, but even the falling box office suggests that the lack of development of the franchise only leads to its degradation.
Let the "Saw 7" still quite be watched and not without a certain pleasure. But the level that was before, this movie unlikely will reach.

To the Andrew Garfield, and Emma Stone, who played Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy, joins the Englishman Rice Evans, which is familiar to the audience for "Notting Hill" and "The boat that rocked". Evans will play the superhero enemy, but the creators did not specify who it was.
Fans put forward their own versions, and are inclined to believe that Evans would fit well into the image of Buzzard. Especially, as you know, John Malkovich has been invited to play this character before director Sam Raimi has left the post, and "Spider-Man" did not intend to restart.
President of Columbia Pictures Matt Tolmach said that the decision to invite Rice Evans matured in the studio after bosses saw his work in the historical drama "Anonymous" by Roland Emmerich.
In the near future, Evans will be on the big screen in "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows 1”. This year the actor appeared in "Greenberg" and "Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang”.

“Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga`Hoole” review
Recently released cartoon "Legend of the Guardians" can impress even the most skeptic viewer.
Owlet Soren and his brother were kidnapped by one owl clan, whose leader - an owl in the Iron Mask - is going to win the heavenly world. Soren managed to escape and he went to look for semi-mythical legendary owls clan - Guardians - to inform them about incoming danger.
Director of "Watchmen" and "300" Zack Snyder has filmed a stereo cartoon about owlet- warriors, which mixed the great battle with pure joy of flight and the birth of heroes.
Despite the excellent animation and delightful twists, "Guardians" seems a little bit unfinished. Visionary Snyder, who was accustomed to stud frame peas expanding blood in strips with rigid rating R, in creation of children's cartoon seemed taken aback - and crumpled few epics owl legends.
Previous film of director - "Watchmen" - already on the opening titers has been immersed in three-dimensional world of alternative history: perhaps it was in perfect picture and in the absence of words.
"Legends of the Guardians" begins with an empty, pretentious chatting, and until mid-may can't achieve the desired degree of legendary - although the book on which was filmed the cartoon, apparently was aimed to become a children's "Lord of the Rings" with its fairy-tale kingdom of owls, warring with each other.
Zack Snyder would not have been the main director of contemporary-visionary, if he didn't show us a scene in the sweet slo-mo, from which the shivers running through the skin. As with "300" and "Watchmen",
"Legends of the Guardians" - a feast for the eyes, even from the second third. In addition to episodes, set in traditional Snyder spirit (Spartans attack), the cartoon impresses with animation, beautiful owls and nature, the majestic backdrop where the action occurs. Owls plumage fluttering in the wind, and for this you can watch with emotion as they want. Movements of birds look so natural and organic, that you involuntarily ask yourself: how many years animators have watched on the owls, so to accurately convey their habits, and gestures on the screen?
The whole cartoon is like continuous visual nirvana.
Under a terrific soundtrack the owls collide in a battle and ride through the fire grate and metal ring claws and helmets, and the characters grow, even in small and clumsy-looking owls. And the enthusiasm is not only on a visual level - "Guardians" delight and wise plot finds, lucidly explaining to the children simple and important things. That war is hell, but not pretentious heroics - and if you have to fight, do not click beak. Appearance doesn't define greatness, only good deals can make from you a hero.
Separately, we should mention and 3D. Stereo effect in the "Legends of the Guardians" is surprisingly nondescript, and absolutely nothing makes an already visually splendid cartoon. All together it produces muddled impression of the new creation by Zack Snyder.

Harry Potter without 3D
Due to constant news about three-dimensional format film release one more new about Warner decision not to release the first part of novels "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" in 3D looks like April fool's joke. Release date is not changed, but the viewers do not have to overpay for watching movie in the glasses.
In today's press release, the studio said that they have no ready-made 3D-version of the stated date of the premiere, on November 19. "Despite all our efforts, we were unable to fully convert the movie to the highest standards of quality. We do not want to disappoint fans, so long awaited completion of this remarkable journey,"- said studio management in press release.
Director David Yates added:" This decision, which we have supported with the whole crew, focuses on the fact that for Warner has always been important quality".
Yates words sound a little bit strange in connection of the studio hastily converted "Clash of the Titans" in 3D, which was criticized by both professionals and viewers. However, it is possible that this incident prompted the studio to release "Deathly Hallows" in usual format.
The second part of the film adaptation Harry Potter will be released in theaters July 15, 2011. It's unknown, whether the studio will convert a movie in 3D.
Paradise Lost from Alex Prayers
Director of the "Dark City" will shoot a movie based on the poem by John Milton's "Paradise Lost", published in the 17st century. Of the war between the Archangel Michael and Lucifer Alex Prayers will make a thriller and even, possibly, withdraw it in 3D.
The poem "Paradise Lost" describes the history of the first verse of the white man Adam. An important role played by the fallen angel Lucifer. He organized armed struggle against the Angels and will be the cause of man's fall. In the poem, Adam and Eve were married and before the fall had a sex, but after sex began to wear a different character. In the final Adam will be shown future children and all future until the arrival of the Messiah.
The first version of the script written by Byron Willinger and Phil DiBleysi, Lawrence Kezdan and finally polished by Ryan Kondal. The movie will be shot in the studio Legendary Pictures, aiming at promoting a Warner Bros.
The project was declared four years ago. Then the director appeared as producer of "The Day the Earth Stood Still" Scott Derrickson.
According to his version the viewer will change his habitual attitude toward Satan. "I would like to see the audience from the very beginning were sympathetic to Lucifer, and all for what he is fighting what he believes in and against which it acts, will help to do it" - Derrickson said in an interview with MTV channel in 2008.
Even at that time was ready a full design of all characters, as well as samples of special effects. The project promised to be a breakthrough in visual terms, but at some point, all the talk about it has been ceased.
From this week at the helm of the project is Alex Prayers, on account of which "I, Robot", "Dark City" and the recent "Knowing".
Alpha and Omega
What is more important? Donate your love for the welfare of wolves, or try to persuade leaders to abandon traditions and simply coexist peacefully and to live or your life next to one you love?
From the one side this cartoon is easy adventure, but on the other hand, it is a drama, when for territory and food appear wars.
Teams of animators from the United States and India did their best in presenting the audience wolf lives in the cartoon "Alpha and Omega".
At first glance, it's very entertaining and funny, but at the same time full of dangers. Especially spectacular looks 3D effect - cute wolves muzzles protrude from the screen into the cinema hall, causing an irresistible desire to reach out and pet them.
About the plot: Omega - wolf, distant from the leaders. He wants to get acquainted with the most popular she-wolf - Alpha. And now fate throws him a good chance - reserve employees send them to Idaho. Both wolves have to unite in order to return to their homeland.
Children will be delighted, because each of the characters represented here is an incredibly charming and attractive, regardless of his behavior and assigned role. There are a lot of mad birds, crazy squirrel, as well as wise gander with his faithful assistant duck. In a moment of crisis in our world, wolves are vegetarians promoting healthy lifestyles without killing.
Natural landscapes are replaced one after another in the spirit of "road-movie", i.e. road adventure where the heroes have to go from point A to point B. Paragraphs B - this is the place where they were born. This home return will make them even closer to each other, from a small attachment will grow a great feeling.
This cartoon is dedicated to the memory of Dennis Hopper, who died of cancer in May 29, 2010. He was voiced by one of the wolves leaders.
Dedication at the end of the film looked very touching, reminding the audience about enormous labor of remarkable man and an excellent actor!

Al Pacino, De Niro, Scorsese – gangsta union
Despite the fact that the latter union of two great actors did not become a sensation - crime drama "Righteous Kill" earned negative comments of critics and $ 77 million in worldwide box office, there is a chance that Al Pacino and Robert De Niro will film together again, but this time in the gangster drama of Martin Scorsese "The Irishman".
Two years ago, Scorsese and De Niro planned to tackle the adaptation of the novel by Charles Brend
"I Heard You Paint Houses". The book's title refers to the mafia slang, means that a person that is accessed in this way, works killer, mercenary, and after the murder on the walls and floors of houses are still stained with blood.
In his work Brend described the life of a real-life killer Frank "Irishman" Sheeran, with whom he met shortly before his death. He confessed to the writer that worked at one of the biggest underworld crime bosses, and that he killed Jimmy Hoff, the former U.S. trade union leader, suddenly disappeared under mysterious circumstances.
In addition to Pacino, the project looks closely and Joe Pesci, who worked with Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro on the "Casino", "Goodfellas" and "Raging Bull". Script from a book has been written by Stephen Zeyllyan, author of "Gangs of New York" and "American Gangster".
Now Martin Scorsese takes his three-dimensional project "Hugo Cabra" by a graphic novel by
Brian O. Selznick. "Irishman" is on the line along with several other films. In particular, maestro wants to film the book Shusako Endo "Silence" in 1966 on heavy everyday life of the Jesuits, seeking to bring Christianity in Japan 17-th century. At the draft have been already attributed such actors as Benicio Del Toro, Daniel Day-Lewis and Gael Garcia Bernal, but shooting was postponed indefinitely.
