Interview with Clive Owen
Clive Owen in an interview with PARADE told how he filmed in an international spy thriller “The Killer Elite" and about how to play such a legendary personality, as Ernest Hemingway.
- Before shooting in "The Killer Elite" You're already familiar with some former members of the Special Air Service of British Crown (SAS)? How did this happen?
Some of them worked in private protection, and it happened that we met with them. They do not work for me, but for my friends and I’ve made friends with them.
- Did they give you some advice, tips for the role?
Talking to these guys, you notice that they are very restrained and never protrude. The more serious the situation is, the less you can learn about it from their faces. Nothing is impossible to demonstrate and show any emotion. All the even more serious than I now talking about. I played a man obsessed with rage, resentment and anger. My hero was no longer able to serve, and that's all that was able to do in life. He dreamed of to return to his job, and he did it.
- Your character has a luxurious mustache ...
It's very simple: when I saw the photos of those times, every spy in Britain had such a mustache. I am a big football fan, and so, and all the players were completely baleen. All! And mustaches at that time were just huge.
- Were they a real one?
Yes, You think I pasted them?
- And your wife liked them?
Of course not!
- Your fight scenes with Jason are very brutal. Have there been some accidental injuries, bruises?
No, in this is the whole charm of work with Jason. He is incredibly technically literate and talented in this area. When you're filming the scenes of battle, you want them to be realistic. You rehearse it from beginning to the end, to make sure that you feel comfortable throughout the fight, and then worked out every movement to make them look as natural as possible.
- Did you perform all the tricks by yourself?
Oh, yes. I think it's important, because it's my job. I do not want to do it for me by someone else. I'm an actor, and I have to do my work as good as it is possible.
- You play Ernest Hemingway in the new series "Hemingway and Gellhorn." Tell us a little about it.
This project - a fantasy, I had the opportunity to immerse in the work, literally and figuratively. I visited the same places that Hemingway. I went to Paris, to Cuba. I really liked it and I had a great time. Oh, and enjoy working with Nicole Kidman. In addition, the script is just wonderful.
- What will we learn new about Hemingway in this movie?
This is the show about the period when Hemingway met March Gellhorn. Their relationship began during the Spanish Civil War. March was a war correspondent, they fell in love, and he left his wife. Gellhorn was a very serious journalist and persuaded Hemingway to go with her to China. Then they went to Cuba and bought a house there. Throughout the film we follow the development of their relationship, which lasted 7 years, by the end of which March has more and more immersed in the work. Our film about how they pulled together, and then slowly moved away from each other.
- What did you personally know about Hemingway, working on the role?
I had no idea about how much he has traveled. In the 19 years he lived in Italy, volunteered for the front and was wounded. At that time? It's hard to believe. Africa, China, Cuba, Paris. The incredible biography.
James Cameron likes high quality 3D format
In an interview with James Cameron TheWrap spoke about his desire for a wholesale rewrite Studios Hollywood classics in three-dimensional format, as well as about the upcoming re-release of "Titanic." And, of course, the impending fate of the "Avatar".
The question of processing of many famous Hollywood hits of the past in 3D has become incredibly relevant after the recent box-office success of the new animated film "The Lion King", who headed the U.S. box office. "Studios see a huge potential in this, plus there's a little healthy greed - and leave any doubt," - comments director.
But he demands that the 3D in such cases will have the highest quality, for which it should be developed for a long time. Cameron has spent a year to remake "Titanic" in 3D and will show it in April of 2012. Examples of rapid conversion, the author of "Avatar" refers to 2,5D and believes that the costs of such a spectacle should be similar to the price of a ticket to a regular session.
Fast conversion, according to Cameron, does not provide the desired effect, but when a 3D movie done right, "it is excellent." Cameron is not against remakes of classic films into 3D formats, but insists on the thoroughness of the process and the involvement of the authors of the paintings in control over the process.
Also Cameron has added that plans to hold a mythical Pandora's forests at least four years, making sure that the following two "Avatar" will be made the right way, as far as possible.
In addition, the filmmaker has made it clear his future project with Disney, who decided to do theme park rides in the universe of "Avatar" at Disneyland, and plans to begin construction in 2013. The director said that the basis for the project will need all three films in the franchise, only two of which are being prepared for production.
In the meantime, this issue is only in the preliminary stages, but Cameron personally follows up on aspects such as the design itself and the surrounding attractions, visiting the construction site.
Will Christopher Nolan be engaged in “Twilight Zone”?
Full-length version of the series "Twilight Zone" will not look like its predecessor in 1983, where four different directors have filmed four different stories. Warner plans to focus on one subject and to invite the eminent director. Among the major candidates are Christopher Nolan, Michael Bay and Alfonso Cuaron.
Warner owns all rights to the series, which went on U.S. television from 1959 to 1964. Among about 155 episodes left for this time, there were stories about giant man-eating aliens, of a certain community in which all the great thought ugly, and Contact Cleaners, won power three hundred people. Full-length "Twilight Zone" in the early '80s shot John Dante, John Landis, George Miller and Steven Spielberg, but the film has collected very modest cash at the box office.
Attempts to start another film version were made long ago. The last of these is dated 2008. Then the "Twilight Zone" company interested Leonardo DiCaprio, Appian Way, but since the film did not hear. In parallel, the project has started about the creator of the series Serlinge Rode, but film version of the show, until recently, has become the heroine of the news.
Now, sources say, the leading candidate in the director's chair of the project is Christopher Nolan. But despite the good relationship of studio with Nolan, the director may refuse for two reasons: lack of time or similarity of the scenario of "Twilight Zone" with his film "Inception".
If the movie will shoot Michael Bay, for the director of "Transformers" it will be the first experience with Warner. The same sources claim that Bay really likes the script of Jason Rotenberg, but the only obstacle to the "Twilight Zone" could be a project evaluation of Bay - a black comedy about a bodybuilders “Pain and Gain”.
Alfonso Cuaron is now finalizing his protracted "Gravity", after which director is completely free.
In addition to three directors Warner is eyeing the other directors. Among them are David Yates and Rupert Wyatt, whose "Rise of the planet's of the apes," unexpectedly became a hit at world cinemas, gathered over 400 million dollars box office.
Disney will attract viewers with old cartoons in 3D
With the successful launch of the "Lion King" in 3D Studio Disney announced about coming release of its other classic cartoon with three-dimensional images. "Beauty and the Beast," "Finding Nemo," "Monsters Inc." and "The Little Mermaid" will receive a new life on the big screen.
"The Lion King" in 3D has earned in the U.S. box office for 80 million dollars. The reason for this success is called artful studio practice to limit DVD-releases of its films. "The Lion King" for some time now is not available on digital media, so parents were happy to take their children to the cinema on classic cartoon. In addition, in September U.S. release was short of pictures for family viewing than Disney and benefited.
The absence in January release of the new family film, prompting the studio to plan edition of "Beauty and the Beast" in 3D for January 13, 2012. “Finding Nemo” will begin in September 14, 2012-th, while “Monsters” will scare kids in January 18, 2013 on the eve of the premiere summer sequel. Finally, “The Little Mermaid 3D" will be in U.S. cinemas in September 13, 2013.
Conversion of "Beauty and the Beast" in 3D-format has already been completed. Originally scheduled for release before the cartoon "King Lion", but limited to a two-week show at the Hollywood cinema "El Capitan" followed by a wide release in January 2012.
Typically, the process of converting an ordinary film into 3D format takes five to eight weeks - this is depending on the length and complexity of the film. Given that the film "Beauty and the Beast" is ready, the studio can work quietly on "Finding Nemo."
In the future, the viewer expects an influx of old movies in the new format. In April we will be able to see "Titanic" of James Cameron, spending much more time to convert than other companies.
But before Cameron, his new version of the old movie will show George Lucas. What will be the first episode of "Star Wars", an American viewer will learn in February 2012. If these films do good box office in a few months of new releases will have to push in a rolling schedule with proven hits in 3D.
Interview with Megan Fox
In an interview with the resource Moviefone the star of "Transformers" Megan Fox was talking about her love to Shia LaBeouf, his public image and a new film with her participation - "Friends with children", which was shown as part of the International Film Festival in Toronto.
- I liked the movie and your character. She is not like a bitch.
It's true. It is certainly not an absolute cutie, but not a complete bitch. Otherwise, she would not the hero Adam. There would be no meaning in their couple".
- Watching your career, it seems to me that at this point it is a good role for you...
I have already been said about this. I understand what you mean, I think I understand.
- This role makes you a ...
Makes me look like a human?
- Well, I would not speak so harshly. But after all those events with you in the past, you are currently starring in the role of an ordinary person in the cast. Do you agree?
Yes.
- That was your plan?
I always wanted to be a part of the ensemble. Besides the fact that you feel supported by my colleagues, I think, much more fun to work with the company. When people are busy with one common task, they are responsible for its execution in equal measure. Besides the fact that Jen wrote the script for the film, she was also director and she starred in it. She had almost everything to shoulder. But it seems to me to work in such films is very interesting ... at least to me.
- In the recent interview with LaBeouf and the situation with "Transformers 3", why do you keep silent and not defend yourself?
I did not say anything while they were on a promo tour, because I did not want to water them with dirt. I do not want to hurt the film. Besides, I love Shia. It was important that the film had success for him. I did not want to contrive this big war in the media, which would have been stupid, and put to me selfish, trying to attract attention. Of course, there will be moments when I’ll want to tell my version of the story. I just found it inappropriate to do this at a time when they were in a promotional tour.
- You say it was a bad situation for you?
Yes. For example, the official reason for my lack of participation in the project sounded like: "She tries to get away from the film". So the best solution in this situation was to let them say what they were going to say.
- Tell me, have you seen “Transformers 3”?
Not yet, but be sure to take a look. You know, if I were not so much busy during the tour, I would definitely go to the movie. But I was sick at the thought of how I'm sitting in a cinema packed to capacity. And I did not go. But I have nothing against the film, and I love Shia very much; love him unconditionally. I love the team, I almost use the same makeup, wardrobe and hair in real life, which I invented for the film. I want to watch a movie also in gratitude to these people. I know the movie is good! I've seen the trailers and watching one of them exclaimed, "Oh shit! Cool!" So I think I would get great pleasure from watching.
- I see headlines in the blog: "Megan Fox is watching "Transformers 3"!
I can’t do it. This all will end that they will write as I went to the cinema not to see the movie, and that they all saw as I went there. So I just buy a movie on the disc and see it at home.
- Have you finished filming in "The Dictator"?
Yes, the shooting ended, and the film is supposed to be very funny. I'm not talking about my role, I'm talking about the film as a whole. Sasha is great.
- So, your future - is a comedy?
We'll see (laughs).
Bertolucci refused to shoot in 3D
Back in May at a press conference in Cannes, Bernardo Bertolucci was telling how he liked the new format and how he can’t wait to work with it. The new film by director would be named "Me and You" and Bertolucci was planning to shoot it in 3D. But this week the master has changed his mind.
As early as next Monday director of "The Last Emperor" returns to the director's chair for the first time in 8 years. Bertolucci's last film was drama "The Dreamers" released in 2003. That's what the director was talking about his new project in April this year: "It's a small movie. Only two characters and the actions mostly take place in one room. For me, this is not news: "The Dreamers" was also filmed mostly in a closed space, like "Last Tango in Paris". "Me and You" will be shot in one set, it will be easier for me".
Bertolucci is experiencing back problems, and the pain is so strong that the director is now appearing in public only in a wheelchair, and will shoot also sitting. What prompted film veteran to give up his planes? "3D is expensive and improper business", - explained his decision Bertolucci this week to students of Roman Film School.
At the heart of the drama "Me and You" is the eponymous novel by the popular Italian writer Niccolo Ammaniti. The protagonist is a fourteen years boy, said his parents that he was going to ski, but instead is hiding in the basement, where tries to help his drug addict sister to engage with a bad habit.
The main roles are played by young actors Antinori Jacopo Olmo and Tea Falco. The shooting will last 10 weeks, so you can expect to see a new picture of the master as early as next year, at the one of the largest film festivals.
Biopic movie about pioneer of UFO movement
Universal Studio is developing the film "Charles Fort" of the compilers of handbooks on sensationalism and pioneer of UFO movement. Speaking the language of Hollywood, it would be "Ghostbusters" of early XX century. Robert Zemeckis took over producing the picture and Evan Spiliotopulos writes a script.
In the early twentieth century American Charles Fort has inherited his uncle's business, dismantled it and got enough money to indulge his hobby - watching all the filings of the scientific and popular publications in English in search of facts, inexplicable in terms of the Science. For 30 years, Fort was filing a data of unexplained cases and has written several novels. In one of his books, he suggested that all events on Earth are made by aliens, but in a fit of depression, the author has burnt his works. The main work in the life of Charles Fort was the "Book of the Damned," published in 1919.
Charles Fort was one of the first authors who tried to explore all sorts of anomalies - from levitation and teleportation to abduction by aliens. After Charles death his novel has filed 60 000 notes. About his work has been written many books and in 2002 the publisher Dark Horse Comics released a series called "Fort Prophet inexplicable. " In it Charles acts as an adventurer, who faced with various aliens and paranormal phenomena. The action takes place in late XIX - early XX century.
Along with Zemeckis to produce "Charles Fort" will be also Mike Richardson from Dark Horse. The script writes Evan Spiliotopulos who worked on the fairy tale "Snow White and the Hunter" and "Ouija". It is safe to assume that "Charles Fort" will be far from dull biopic.
Robert Zemeckis himself is preparing to shoot his first in a long time feature film "Flight" with Denzel Washington. Will he direct "Charles Fort" we shall see soon.
Leonardo DiCaprio will play Russian killer-samurai
Another novel of Don Winslow has gotten into the grip of Hollywood producers. A book, entitled "Satory" is a prequel to the novel of Trevanyan "Sibumi" and tells about the formation of the master of the games “go” and most highly paid political assassin in the world. The main role is assigned to Leonardo DiCaprio.
"Satory" - the fourth book of Winslow, which will be the basis for the film. To date, there is only one adaptation of the book - thriller "The Death and Life of Bobby Z".
The novel "Sibumi" was released in 1979. The protagonist - Nicholas Hale, brought by Russian aristocrat mother and Japanese stepfather, was born in Shanghai, for a long time growing up in Japan where not only mastered the martial arts, but also obtained good skills in “go” game. In his book Trevanan talks about some kind of mysterious organization, which tried in the late 70's to achieve world domination. And only Nicholas is able to enter into confrontation with the organization.
Don Winslow has written a prequel to the novel of Trevanyan, which was published in March this year. At the beginning Nicholas Hale is controlled by American prison in Japan. In the yard is 1951. If Nicholas wants to be free, he first will have to make a suicide mission - to remove George Voroshenin, the Soviet ambassador at China. Hale begins life a French arms dealer and goes in search of Voroshenin. Over time, he will face the American, Chinese, French and Soviet intelligence services, the criminal syndicate of Viet Nam and the Corsican mafia.
The studio sees a potential franchise in a thriller in the style of Born.
Shane Salerno wrote screenplay, adapted "Savages" of Winslow for Oliver Stone, as well as "Armageddon" and "Shaft." It is interesting that DiCaprio met with Stone for his role in his "Savage" but could not agree on work schedule. It seems that Leonardo liked the prose of writer, so he did not miss the opportunity to play in a film adaptation of Don Winslow's new novel.
The question is: when will DiCaprio find the time? Now the actor is shooting in Baz Luhrmann's "Great Gatsby" and in his plans for at least another five films including the "Django Unchained" by Quentin Tarantino.
Interview with Olivia Wilde
Olivia Wilde, who played in the comedy "Butter" tattooed bisexual, stripper, in an interview with THR told about her life, work and future plans.
About admission to acting at an early age by her parents.
"It was a kind of therapy. By acting, my irrepressible energy directed at the creation of something interesting. This had a positive effect on me ... I'm sure that many children are overfed with all sorts of sedatives, while classes are in the drama circle, really help. In general, I am glad that the parents join me in art, and not stuffed with drugs. "
About Hollywood.
"Well, I did not get into a jet 10 years ago. God, it would be crazy ... I was lucky."
About fame.
"It has started not so long ago. I'm trying to laugh at it. I understand how strange to look from the lives of celebrities, for example, how you pursue, say, 12 paparazzi every day. You know, I'm not doing anything interesting, I'm trying to warn them when they begin to move me, that just go to the dry cleaners pick up clothes. I want them to believe me and did not spend money on petrol - it is expensive! You must be funny ... I hope they will soon realize how much I bored and stop going over my heels. "
About the presence of her name in the top ratings of the most beautiful and sexiest women.
"I was just twenty when I started to get into these rankings, and it seemed strange to me. You know, whenever someone speaks about you in the superlative degree, there is a lot of people do not agree with this opinion. It should be someone to say: "You - the best!" On all sides until you reach the outskirts begins: "No, not the best!" You feel like a fool. I would never have chosen myself as the most beautiful, sexy, what else there ... You just have to say: "Thank you very much, so kind of you," and then throw out the ratings of the head. "
About the first big roles in the movies.
"This is not always what you expect. For example, my role in "Cowboys and Aliens" I has gotten due to the fact that Jon Favreau is stuck in a hotel room in Hawaii, and his children watched the movie "Year One" in which I starred with Jack Black. The film has not had much success, but John had nowhere to go and he was forced to watch it, he liked my character, that’s why he gave me a role in "Cowboys". So, you never know in advance what might happen. Favreau did not see any episode of TV series "House" ... he did not even know about it!
About the role of the tattooed stripper in comedy "Butter".
"I really liked the script, which, for unknown reasons, long lain on the shelf. Brook - my heroine - a wonderful, sarcastic, extravagant stripper, a very pragmatic and intelligent girl ... Since her character was interesting to work: Brooke is very warm, but she can send you to hell too".
About plans for the future.
"If all goes well, I will continue to combine professional work with the charity ... I am happy to do with directing - I just finished shooting a short film "Free Hugs" - and producing - "Sun City Picture House" - a documentary about the construction of the theater in a refugee camp in Haiti ... I am very proud that I am the producer of this picture. In general, I am interested in documentary and feature films. Right now I'm writing a script to the funny (I hope) film. I am very fortunate that at this stage of life I do what I want, to work with people whom I have admired for many years ... it's fun ... "
The man, who has changed the world
"While the vast majority of people simply accept reality, he saw the potential in everything which touched. He was never unfaithful to his mission. His legacy humanity will enjoy for many years".
This brief and comprehensive description has been given by George Lucas to his friend and partner Steve Jobs. Man, without which the whole modern entertainment industry would be quite different.
Leave aside the biography of Steve Jobs, his expulsion his own company Apple and the triumphant return, we will not list the range of devices, so hated, "power users" and adored by all others, will not expose the entire analysis of the cultural layers and worldview formed in the world under the influence of his ideas.
Just remember only one episode, which had a huge influence on modern cinema, gives an idea of the capabilities of this man not only to see clearly, but also to determine the direction of progress.
It was in 1986 when Jobs, who lost the fight with the board of Apple and resigned from the company, entered into an agreement, which was later called "the most nightmarish transaction in the history of movie." Not a nightmare for Steve Jobs, but for George Lucas.
Apple founder bought Lucas piece of his empire called Graphics Group - a company engaged in the creation of digital special effects. Creator of "Star Wars" simply had no time to engage in its development, and he conceded that later became Pixar studio for ... five million dollars.
A few years later the reorganized by Jobs company entered into an agreement with Walt Disney on the production of full-length computer-animated films. Thus, were born "Toy Story," "The Adventures of Flick," "Monsters Inc." and other animated masterpieces that have made Pixar's undisputed leader in its sector in the film industry.
That's Steve Jobs persuaded management to abandon Walt Disney cartoons in the practice of issuing the autumn season, which is traditionally considered "low", and move the big releases for the summer. He was sure that his studio's projects are able to compete with the major blockbusters of the year. It also allowed the partners to change "window" release of licensed copies of cartoons. Now they have come into the market on Christmas Eve, which immediately impacted on profitability.
In 2006, Steve Jobs sold Pixar's to Walt Disney Company for ... $ 7.4 billion. This deal has turned a principal founder of Apple into the private shareholder of "mouse house," whom he remained until his death.
And the last. As CEO of the largest IT-company in the world, capitalization of which in 2011 has reached $ 300 billion, Steve Jobs received 1$ per year. Of course, he was very wealthy man, not in need of so beloved by most corporate heads bonuses. But this fact alone says a lot about him, not only as manager but as a person.
Jobs used to say that in life, he prefers to follow a simple rule of the great hockey player Wayne Gretzky: "I roll to where the puck may be in the next moment, not where it has already been."
