In the world there are not many people, almost every word or action which is perceived as a direct order, and sets in motion a huge mass of people and capital. No, we are not talking about the presidents of nuclear powers, since their impact on the reality of much more modest and where short-lived. In the high-tech industry such person was Steve Jobs, in the entertainment industry - James Cameron and Peter Jackson. The first has already moved the film industry back on track stereoscopy, the second is preparing to modify one of its core standards. The only question is whether it can keep up with the ardent revolutionaries.
Anticipating the inevitable protests from detractors of duty, just clarify: yes, nothing revolutionary, as in stereoscopy, as in shooting with a high frame rate. Similar experiments with varying degrees of success were at the dawn of cinema. However, only now they are able to withdraw beyond the fun rides and give them the status of locomotives across the industry.
Suffice it to recall that director of the same "Avatar" was transferred several times. Basically, not because James Cameron wanted more time to bring the project to the mind, but as a global box office because of the unavailability of the new rules of the game. Now, however, the presence of stereoscopic movies of all stripes on the screen is absolutely commonplace, and only a fantastic blockbusters without 3D-version and look at all anachronistic.
Something similar should happen with the standard frame rate. He finally established itself with the advent of sound film, since the rate of 16 frames per second, used in silent film, could not provide adequate quality of the optical sound track. Since then, numerous attempts to overcome the 24-HR barrier, but the world standard remained unmoved.
And now for the first time the situation may change. Is precisely because the initiators of change were James Cameron and Peter Jackson. And if the first one in this case so far only as a theorist, the second is almost biblical mission, which is to test the readiness of industry to this "new covenant".
Already, many projection systems company Barco, Christie, Sony and NEC are able to show movies with such frequency after minor modifications and software updates, but after the first part of "The Hobbit" this additional option has the potential to become the main one.
