Ryan Reynolds interview
Ryan Reynolds in an interview with the resource Collider talked about the project "Green Lantern", what he knew about the original comic book up to this point and how to prepare for the role of Hal Jordan.
- Have you already given many interviews about this project?
No, not really. We presented the project at the exhibition Comic-Con, but it's quite private event.
- You have already starred in comic books, but agree that at this time, your hero is very much attractive and energetic.
I guess you're right. Perhaps this is the first movie which was filmed for my nephews and niece watched from the earliest days. The first thing my nephew asked me when I came to visit him: "Do you give me a ring? and I answered him: "Forget it!" (laughs). Do not want to sound sentimental, but this interest inspires great confidence in what you're doing.
- When you were considering the offer of the studio, how much you talked about your role and what you know about comics?
I had an idea about it, but, in general terms. Like, there has lived an ordinary guy, whom died alien has bequeathed a ring that shoots a laser. That’s all. I was shocked to discover what an enormous universe is involved in "Green Lantern ". On the role, Hal Jordan held a casting, as usual. I am slightly familiar with the world of comics: played in "Blade 3: Trinity" and the entire four minutes was Deadpool, in " X-Men: Wolverine". Overall, I was not sure, whether I would fit the role of a superhero or not. I just wanted to work with Martin Campbell, because I really like "Casino Royale" and some of his other films. We have met three times. At first tried to persuade me in the end I've beg my role. Then I was taken to the costume designers, and I saw all of their models, concept art, costumes, and was stunned. So it all started.
- Can you tell a bit about your character, Hal Jordan? He is an example of the classical hero. He is fearless and very confident. How to ensure that he looks like a hero, fearless, and at the same time does not ...
We had no goal of making him a fearless hero. ... Hal Jordan is the reason the ring has chosen him, that he is able to conquer fear. He was confused and did not understand why the choice fell on him. And he's afraid to admit that he is afraid of.... His struggle to overcome this fear continues throughout the film. He is looking for a fulcrum and tries to find the ability to defeat his fear. Precisely because of this he becomes the greatest of the green lights, because courage - this is madness. Courage - an amazing thing: it is noble, that they want to have all the advantage. In general, this virtue he tries to find within himself. In short, he's one of those guys who try to be fearless, but when we know him better, understand that he chose precisely the wrong way.
- What are your favorite books and movies in the genre of science fiction?
Uh ... number one – "Back to the Future." Next "Star Wars", the first three parts. What else? I like "Total Recall." Well, I do not know ... as a child I loved "Robocop." It seemed my super-duper movie. That is all at once come to my mind.
- Deadpool, Green Lantern, and now they say that you are going to participate in the project RIPD Why are comics more attractive for you than traditional movies?
I think they are attractive from the standpoint that now, with the development of new technologies and take them down has become much easier and they look spectacular as ever. "Green Lantern", for example, can’t be removed two years ago. As for the draft RIPD, I first read the script, and only then learned that it is comic. Not even a comic, graphic novel. In general, the script I really liked. I do not think that I deliberately chose a genre in which I decide to act.
