Roger Deakins – ninth chance to get an Oscar

In 2009 Roger Deakins was nominated twice for an Oscar, and in total the operator can get gold-plated man with a sword eight times. Colleagues have betrayed twice award of the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC), and this year Deakins is again among the nominees.

The operator has already have ASC Award for "The Shawshank Redemption" and for a black and white drama of the Coen brothers' "The Man Who Was not There". The brothers also won him nine nominations of Society of Cinematographers: Roger Deakins can get an award for masterful work with "True Grit". Interestingly, that last year the operator tried himself in an unusual genre: advised the creators of the cartoon "How to Train Your Dragon".

It is quite possible that Deakins has all chances to finally get an Oscar this year.

ASC this year brings its prize to five professionals of the camera.

Roger Deakins - "True Grit"
Daniel Cohen - "The King’s speech"
Jeff Kronenvet - "Social Network"
Matthew Libatik - "Black Swan"
Wally Pfister - "Inception"

For the Pfister it is the third nomination, and, characteristically, they all were for the work on the film by Christopher Nolan.

Libatik, Cohen, and Kronevet were first nominated for ASC award.

The winner will be known on February 13.
