New “Starship Troopers” with more patriotism
Declared in May this year a remake to the film "Starship Troopers" will be very different from the original. According to producer Toby Jaffe, remake will be based on the book by Robert Heinlein, rather than on the film, Paul Verhoeven. In addition, promising more patriotism and less violence.
Robert A. Heinlein novel on which the fiction thriller filmed Verhoeven, is considered one of the most contentious and controversial works of the writer. The action takes place in the future, the story is on behalf of Juan "Johnny" Rico, a middle-class Earth Federation, the leading space war with the inhabitants of the planet Klendatu arachnids. From book in the film of 1997 was only a general outline.
Here is what said producer Toby Jaffe in an interview with Empire: "Verhoeven brought the story to the extreme, gave it a comic tone. We set out to follow the book and somehow to land the subject. Novel and now is very popular both in schools and universities, military academies. Verhoeven saw in a book critical of fascism, while Heinlein wrote more from the perspective of an American soldier, past WWII, and wrote during the Korean War. The fact that for one person is fascism for another - patriotism".
So in this remake we can expect for more patriotism. As for the rolling rankings, here you are the producer, too upset. "The picture is more expensive, the harder it is to show the violence in it - says Jaffe. - We are going to reinterpret the novel to a generation that was not familiar with the first film. This will allow the studio and us, the producers, to present it in another manner."
Jaffe also points out that even though special effects in film, Verhoeven, and were at a level that will provide viewers a remake of the more visually enhanced version of the events. So, less violence, more patriotic and special effects. It is not known which of the directors will undertake a walk in the footsteps of Paul Verhoeven with producers' decisions.
