New “Bourne” without Bourne
Director of the fourth "Bourne" series Tony Gilroy last weekend said that he was going to approach the film with a somewhat unexpected quarter. Despite the fact that the project has been called "The Bourne Legacy" as one of the novels about spies, it would not be based on the book. Gilroy promises an original storyline, in which there is no Jason Bourne.
"I read the news that I was appointed a director and would like to clarify something - said Gilroy in conversation with Hollywood insider Jeffrey Wells. "Bourne Legacy" is not a reboot or prequel. We're not going to replace another actor Matt Damon. We will have a brand new hero. The film will stand alone and does not depend on the already filmed trilogy".
It is worth noting that the novel is titled "The Bourne Legacy" was released relatively recently - five years ago. Its author was listed, Wang Lastbader, not Robert Ludlum, composed the book, on the basis of which has been filmed the previous movie.
"Probably the easiest way to describe the project as an extension of the existing universe - says Tony Gilroy. - Jason Bourne would not be in the movie, but he is alive and well. Events featured in the trilogy, will be the starting point to events in our film. I'll build a new environment, come up with a legend and an expanding network of conspiracies. Our new world will change and move up, and eventually Jason Bourne come back. "
It is worth remembering what Gilroy is behind all three existing movies - he worked on scripts. It is also interesting that the director does not preclude the return of Bourne. So if Matt Damon is still again decides to play a spy, he will easily fit into new universe.
