Len Wiseman will re-shoot “Total Recall”
Three years after "Die Hard 4.0" director Len Wiseman returns to a great movie. He ended talks with Columbia studio about setting fiction thriller remake of "Total Recall", in the original which starred Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Produced by Neal H. Moritz agreed to launch the project in February last year. Already in the summer was hired screenwriter project - Kurt Wimmer, director of "Equilibrium", who wrote, among other things the script to the action "Salt".
"Total Recall" by Paul Verhoeven was released in 1990. The film was shot on a story by Philip K. Dick "We'll remember you everything". Bought at the Rekall Inc. company implanted memories, the main character can't understand who he really is - womanizer or a secret agent who owns all martial arts. To remember all, the hero is sent to Mars, which he so often sees in dreams.
Verhoeven investigated one of Dick's favorite themes - the reality against illusion. Like Arnold Schwarzenegger's character, the audience did not immediately understand what truth is and what fiction is. However, this did not prevent the film to earn very real money - 261 million dollars in worldwide box office. Adjusted for inflation, this amount today would have exceeded 400 million.
While we do not know in which direction Wimmer will lead the story. Of course, screenwriter modernizes it, but will stick to the story by Dick, is not disclosed.
The producers chose Wiseman for the love of the genre and the ability to shoot action. If the director of the "Underworld" completely agree, it is unlikely to please the studio Fox, which matures plan fifth "Die Hard". Recently, Bruce Willis confirmed that appeared to be the next series of the franchise under the leadership of Wiseman.
