Kevin Bacon plays the role of villain, a mutant Sebastian Shaw in the movie "X-Men: First Class", in an interview spoke about his character and what he likes in comics.
- Tell us about your hero, Sebastian Shaw?
"In our film there are little facts about his past. Being teenager, Sebastian lost his father. He is a man who made himself: in 30-years he has earned the first million, and in 40- the first billion. He became an influential person, and how discovered, a mutant. Shaw heads the Hellfire Club - Night club - whose members are very rich and powerful people. In general, Sebastian arises the idea of capturing the world. He has an incredible ability to manipulate people and use the information received from them. For example, if he talks to a citizen of Germany, his German is improving right before our eyes. The Shaw is very charming and always gets what he wants."
- Why did you decide to accept the offer to participate in the project?
"I was a big fan of the movie "Kick Ass" and someone advised me to read the script and meet with Matthew Vaughn - so I hit the "X-Men: First Class". I liked the script and I thought it was a very fresh look at franchise. Specifically, I drew the image of Sebastian Shaw, this is certainly an interesting character, and I wanted to play him".
- Did you change your mind because of the movie?
"My view is basically different from the look of a man from the comics. From the beginning we agreed that we will not dwell on this account. But, of course, costumes that I wear, are sewn in a unique style. With regard to makeup, there is nothing extreme there. Well, I'll look completely different".
- Are you a fan of the X-Men?
"Yes, definitely. Not so thanks to comics but to the movie. I like the issues raised in them: that someone can not be like the others, how to judge people based on their appearance, is there an opportunity for those who are different from others, assimilate, or even consist in relations with other people who, in turn, did not like them? On the globe there is great variety of people, an endless variety of flora and fauna, and they all have their differences, and I think it's cool."
- Who is your favorite character?
"I always thought that Professor X in his wheelchair is incredibly cool. It is really fascinating - have leadership abilities and be limited to a wheelchair, it's terrible, how interesting, and Patrick Stewart was brilliant in this role."
- Which part of the film will be the coolest?
"It is not easy to answer the question without seeing the entire movie. But I think that all young people in the film - that is what is really cool: Jennifer Lawrence, Zoe Kravitz, James McAvoy and the other guys. When you see how they are transformed into those whom we know as the X-Men, you will understand why I am delighted with them. As for the storyline, we are lucky to observe the creation of a kind, an elite team when all the young people are in college, with its special atmosphere, where there are novels are binge and this ties up the strong friendship, and then everything falls apart ..."
- Did you have fun playing your character?
"Just recently I discovered new facets of the talent of actors such as Heath Ledger, Johnny Depp, Robert Downey Jr., Hugh Jackman, demonstrated ability to work with the genre of comic books, with all these "green screens" and created a truly unforgettable images of their heroes. It is very difficult, believe me. For me the joy of the profession is to work on stage, working with another actor, with whom we make things work. We have Michael Fassbender toward the end of the movie there is a common scene…"
