Interview with Wolverine
In an interview with LA Times resource Hugh Jackman talked about his return to the role of Wolverine in the new project by Darren Aronofsky.
- I remember the summer of 2009, you expressed the hope to play in a movie based on the mini-series, Wolverine (1982) by Chris Clermont and Frank Miller, which takes place in Japan. And now you do this under the guidance of director Darren Aronofsky. Probably, you are very worried.
Oh, yes, my heart pounding at a furious pace. I have a feeling that the planets were in the right order, thus the film has turned great. At last, we have a hero corresponding to the mythology of the universe Marvel, because at the time when began work on the film "X-Men", I’ve wandered here and there, reading comics and trying to find desired image. Before I was offered the role of Logan, I have not read any of them. I remember my words to producer Lauren Schuler Donner: "Lauren, I do not know about you, but I really liked the Japanese story. It is brilliant." And we from time to time back to this conversation. I even wanted to bring this story in the third movie about the X-Men, but then we decided that first we should find out who is originally was Logan, what we did in the fourth part of the "X-Men Origins: Wolverine". And now, for me personally, it is time to dessert with a cherry on top in the form of Darren Aronofsky. I like his enthusiasm and look at the new project. Note that this is not a sequel, it is an independent product, and I think the audience later will recognize him as the best among all others.
- Yes, it would be better if your words were true. After all, with such rich material, the director of "Black Swan" and "The Wrestler" should meet all our expectations.
Expectations, of course, are high, but Darren - one of the greatest directors. I worked with him on "The Fountain" and from the first seconds I knew that it would be cool to shoot movies with him. I've been waiting for the case to work with him again, and now this time has come. Yes, I’m not just worried, I tremble!
- You're back to the strict diet, when you had to eat a whole chicken in order to build muscle?
I'm already on a diet, buddy: 6,000 calories a day, that’s harsh.
- How much do you weigh now?
Approximately 95 kg.
- Wow, this time you'll be bigger? In the last project you weighed about 86 kg.
It is true, that something like that. I do not know what I can say, and what needed to be silent, but Darren told me about my physical form in the "X-Men: Wolverine" the following: "Listen, you look cool, but you're so tall and in pants you are even taller, you looks like Clint Eastwood, not Wolverine". He said that the Wolverine in the comics is very powerful, stocky, squat and dense character. So Darren wanted me to get more weight.
