Interview with Andrew Garfield

In an interview with LA Times lead actor in a sci-fi movie "The New Spider-Man" Andrew Garfield spoke about the life of spiders, about fame and his partner on screen, Emma Stone.

- Preparing for the role, do you think that you should avoid any stereotyping when you put together an image of Peter Parker and Spider-Man?
I had to make so many that I have not had time to think about what I need something to avoid. I did not consider the task set before me, from this point of view. I wanted Peter Parker had fun. I would like to make it clear that he can not only try to save the world but the fun never ends, that he enjoys life even after he was responsible for saving the city. Inspired by the work of many filmmakers in recent years, I really wanted to use physical force to do something natural. Physical data of Spider-Man - that's what I was obsessed and admired.

- If you look back and remember the very first comic book, it becomes clear that the image of Spider-Man has always been synonymous with grace ...
Yeah, right. What would have happened if we had a spider DNA, representing the percentage of our blood? So I decided to study spiders, their movements, how they act, and tried to use the data I obtained in the maximum. The way, Peter moves it should be clear that he is half boy, half - a spider, and the matter is not in a suit. The mutation affects the communication and interaction with people. Spider is incredibly sensitive, and his skin is sensitive to everything, and it's very important detail. Imagine for a moment that all of your skin would be as fragile as a spider: the slightest gust of wind would be like passing around tornado. It was necessary to pay attention to the number of hands and feet: you would always rush somewhere. We had to figure out how to adapt to this Peter, and simultaneously to the movement in space - because the spider moves up, down, side to side, all around. He does not move linearly, and, taking into account this feature it must be understood that he could be here, and in a split second - in a totally different place. The immobility of the spider and its lightness also caught my attention.

- Very soon you will see yourself as a toy figurine, in the form of images on billboards, on plates, on magazine covers, in short, everywhere. Around the world people will not identify you as an actor, Andrew Garfield, but a comic book hero like - Spider-Man. How do you prepare for this part of the job?
I do not like thinking about it. It scares me. I really do not want any glory. I was glad that I was given the opportunity to play a role, which I had dreamed from my 2 years. Ability to become a more prominent actor or just a more well-known person in the world was the only thing that kept me from a final agreement, and which I questioned. Do I want this? I pondered this issue for months. I knew that my life will have changes. I'm going to do the best to remain part of the world. I do not want to lose the opportunity to be an ordinary man, meet people, and make new friends. I do not want, getting acquainted with me, people thought of me biased. I love to be myself and do not want to be someone else. Of course, I realize that much will change, but I will do my best to stay simple guy, who makes his living. I really accepted this role and without a moment's regret about my decision.

- Until today, the franchise, "Spiderman" has been consisted of three films, is one of the projects, which together with the heroic theme of a love theme - the romance between Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson. "The new Spider-Man" - a new star, new director and ... no Mary Jane. However, the flirt is still a central theme in the movie: this time, Peter Parker is in love with Gwen Stacy, the heroine of Emma Stone. What can you tell us about working with Emma?
She's just super. Emma is very talented, I knew that. But I had no idea how she will be good, funny, sweet and generous as a human. She - the girl who brought cupcakes for the whole team, but does not say that baked them herself. She really wanted to get into the skin of her character and do something real. She is playful, cheerful, likes to fool around, and she always helped me to relate everything easier. It is very important to me because I am quite serious in life, and the seriousness is getting me nerves. So Emma was a real godsend.
