Alex Proyas and new project

July 12 at the San Diego has been opened convention called Comic-Con - an analog of the Cannes Film Festival for all the geeks of the world. Therefore, in the next few days will be a lot of news about new projects. In particular, the director of "Dark City" Alex Proyas decided to stage a film on the illustrated novel, steampunk, "Joe Golem And The Drowning City” by Christopher Golden and creator of "Hellboy" Mike Minoly.

The film rights to books has purchased Studio Constantin Film. It is expected that Proyas, will not only remove a film on it, but also wrote the script. Especially, we note that the book - it's not a comic or graphic novel, namely the book, just with a lot of pictures of Minoly.

"Joe Golem And The Drowning City" was released in late March 2012. The action of the book begins in 1925 when an earthquake and flood lower Manhattan plunged 10 meters into the water. Residents began to call this part of New York city drowned. Many people do not want to leave their homes and formed a new life on the flooded streets turned into canals between the houses, submerged in water for three or four floors.

It took 50 years. Drowning city is a pitiful sight. Around the scavengers, water rats, the poor eke out their existence, barely make ends meet, and even the most proud and stubborn surrendered under the pressure of circumstances. Among them, 14-year-old Molly McHugh and her friend and employer, Felix Eagles. Once the Eagles was a famous exorcist magician, but now he is just an old medium, communicating with the spirits of the dead. When the regular session with the world beyond the grave is not according to plan, Felix kidnapped strange people in masks, and Molly is forced into hiding. The search will drive another girl with a mysterious stranger and his assistant, burly Joe Golem, whose original purpose - hunting for witches.

Alex Proyas for the last year was unsuccessful. The director spent a lot of time to prepare for adaptation of the poem by John Milton's "Paradise Lost". However, due to financial constraints, the picture was frozen: the number of special effects not correlated with a dedicated budget. Then Proyas signed on adaptation of the novel by Robert A. Heinlein's "Unpleasant Profession of Jonathan Hoag," but whether the project will be a priority for Alex, has not yet reported.

Filming will take place at home of director in Australia, the launch date is not yet known.
