Oldschool, or there is no place for aged
R.E.D Plot.
The film tells us that there are no former agents. The main character has been hunted and he gathered a team of trusted friends in order to kick ass to CIA.
God, I can’t say at what time this year I see a similar story. Beginning of the film takes place in a similar with the "Knight and Day", even with the same attributes and similar scenes. The entire film is in general very similar to the "A-Team". Intriguing is not it?
In fact, "RED" can be easily divided into two parts. The first part presents us a dashing action movie with old actors in the lead roles. And everything that happens on the screen is really admirable. But at the second part the movie crawls into a rut of typical actions and at that time lost all the charm and begin frantically to remember, in any time you see it already. However, the end again explodes and you are not disappointed leave the cinema.
Oh, just for the sake of the actors you should see this picture. Let's count: 2 Oscars, 4 Golden Globes, the Golden Lion, 2 palms, the Golden Mask, and even 2 Razzie. And this is without taking into account the nominations in which these people did not win.
John Malkovich - one of the few non-standard actors of our time, thank him for that, such people wouldn’t be forgotten.
Helen Mirren - given that the film was still partly in English, her perfect British pronunciation right through the air.
Morgan Freeman – there is such a feeling that this man is eternal. I hardly counted the number of pictures with his participation, which I looked. Terrific actor with such a strength and energy at that age of 73.
Bruce Willis - the only actor in this film, which was on his territory. Idol of youth, action hero of past and present. By the way, he has gotten golden raspberries for this movie.
Karl Urban - after "Lord of the Rings" this actor has been lost, but "Star Trek" and "RED" returned him in a great movie, and he has coped with her task on 100%.
Misc.
The film is made on the principle of "we kill, blow up and demolish - you laugh". Dare say that this principle works, though in the second half of this picture and turn into the usual serious action. The only downside I would say the absence of violence, again in the second part. This is not my whim, just this comic was very brutal and cruel, so it would nice idea to move this all on the screen.
Once in Berlin…(“Unknown” review)
Winter Berlin ... The show is falling on roofs, trees, roads ... And then one day an American couple (Dr. Harris and his wife) arrives back at the Scientific Congress, go to the hotel and at the hotel it has already revealed that the husband had forgotten in the airport his case with the documents. He has to go back to the airport and on a wet road taxi car falls into a river. Taxi driver at the last moment of time has saved the passenger, and he finds himself in a hospital bed. Next begins the painful process of understanding - who he was, why his wife doesn’t look for him, everything is unknown. Actions by seeking answers to questions, do not leave anyone indifferent, because the plot is twisted.
The filmmakers do not have desired to leave any free minute, every minute brings the hero, and with him and the viewer to an unexpected clue.
Before our eyes after luxury rooms sweeps "another" Berlin, illegal immigrants, slums and daily struggle for survival, the hero - living outcast, forced to go to those places. Here and crazy car chases, and martial arts and shooting, and even humor, although "black". The only assistants in the difficult path of finding themselves, are - Bosnian illegal Jinnah and a veteran of the Stasi (secret service reposed in Bose GDR). And by staging the hero through all the circles of hell, we revealed an explanation of what is happening, other than director's unusual solution - the solution is shocking and surprising at the same time. More film follows the denouement, in which the hero has only one purpose - elementary to survive and not get into jail. A panorama showing the ending of the movie, still snow-covered Berlin, where, despite outward beauty of surroundings occur not pious deeds and one could well happen to such a story.
In addition to writing and directing in the movie looks great Liam Neeson (Dr. Harris) and Diane Kruger (Jinnah). One showed the audience bewildered by experienced an average American who can not understand why his wife does not want to know him and the other was decorated with movie roles illegal emigrant, which have nothing to lose and, if successful, a bonus prize covers the costs. And if Neeson has turned much of the movie depressed, Krueger with her vividness and beauty of decisive action has given some drive. Against this background Jenuary Jones (wife of Harris) looks like a wax doll. And I cannot mention Bruno Ganz as a veteran of the Stasi, which actually belongs to the laurels of the discoverer of the secrets and mysteries, a lone man who lived and who gave the best years to serve the country.
The bottom line, strong thriller with elements of drama in which the subject is not trivial, and the acting game is not ordinary.
“Greenberg” review
When you go to the movie - what do you expect to see? Surely what is written in the advertisement, review or anything else that you have read before going to the cinema.
And if it happens that the description does not fully reflect the fact that you have to contemplate? What if you chose to view the film, which is generally quite difficult to describe?
"Greenberg" – is one of such movies.
The protagonist of this film, a middle aged man named Roger played by Ben Stiller - coward, skunk and somewhere an idiot, but nonetheless, a man with his own philosophy of life. Do nothing, to spoil the lives of others, and then revel in their failure to adapt to life and the ugly character, to build their own shortcomings in the cult – thus he looks to people surrounding him.
In the face of his brother housekeeper, he finds an understanding person, someone who is willing to accept him as he is, not trying to change him. Of course, such kind of person like Roger Greenberg is not able to understand immediately what the gift has been presented to him by fate, so during the movie we are watching the situation, full of absurdity and impropriety on the part of both characters.
Also worth noting the manner of the film - it is deliberately slow, the action is viscous, stringy ... but, strangely enough, it does not get on your nerves. Director Baumbach seems want to show that Greenberg is an ordinary person, without claiming on something. In his life nothing much has happened and will never happen. He will not save the world and find astounding beauty girl and will not stand with her in an embrace on a board of the giant ship.
Baumbach has shot not only one more movie, but done something completely new, like nothing on earth. This creation should be joined, only because it has no single counterpart. In addition, Ben Stiller has played perfect, maybe if was not the main character, the film would have been another.
And in the end. Soundtrack. It is just beautiful and fully consistent with the spirit and character of the film. Be sure to listen, you will not regret.
Gnomeo and Juliet review
Watching a lot of animated cartoons by studio Pixar, viewers accustomed to the fact that they are designed for the widest audience, i.e. such cartoons will be funny for children and their parents. Yes, and what must be confessed, often adults themselves without kids go to watch the cartoons, and rejoice humor and warm, cozy atmosphere of something good and bright.
But here released cartoon "Gnomeo and Juliet" and takes us back to earth - it is just that type of cartoon that will be much more interesting for children and almost unbearable for adults.
This story unfolds in a beautiful garden with conflict between two companies of gnomes - blue and red. Son of the blue gnome’s leader Gnomeo falls in love with the daughter of the head of the red one - Juliet. From this and starts its development rather peculiar interpretation of the famous play by William Shakespeare - Romeo and Juliet.
Though of course, fans of the original version may even be glad that the greatest love story in this cartoon has ended as it should be in all positive tales.
Despite the seriousness of Shakespeare's source, some very dramatic events in the cartoon we will not be shown here in general, all is bright and positive. A large part of the plot has extremely weak and only "baby" jokes.
Apart from a couple of interesting jokes here and mention something almost nothing: video sequence comparison with the same works of Pixar does not hold, for some memorable and spectacular scenes here (except, perhaps, a brawl with the lawn mower) are absent, but a very touching music by Elton John (by the way, one more small positive moment) is not able to save the situation.
Such cartoons have not been released for a long time and perhaps we simply lost the habit of such "pure child" of animation projects, but still today there are far more interesting representatives of the genre, and therefore criticism of "Gnomeo and Juliet" is well-founded
The main conclusion from the facts above can be the following: those who’ll get while watching to switch on his inner child, then they will enjoy a cartoon. Other people are better to avoid this cartoon.
127 hours review
There are a lot of movies about the incredible will of man and his quest, but truly speaking, their quality is quite poor. Director Danny Boyle has managed to shoot rather right nice picture. "127 hours" turned out incredibly soulful and memorable.
Scenario of the tape is based on real events: self-confident and irrepressible climber Aaron Ralston once again went into the mountains to climb to the caves and enjoy the solitude, without informing at the same time none of the relatives and friends. According to a tragic accident, not by calculating own forces, he falls into a small ravine, where his arm has gotten tightly into the boulder. Food and water are too little and there is no any person around. Aaron will hopefully only for himself.
Local story would be difficult to assess. Some unexpected twists here and there, in fact, every step of the hero is very predictable, making some sort of special intrigue from the tape should not wait. However, in this case we should pay attention on not "what" producers just tell us, but "how" do they do this.
For the first few minutes, writers demonstrate audience who Aaron Ralston is, his thoughts and his nature. And a couple of flashbacks and you will know about him those all necessary things which help you fully feel his state when he got into such a violent situation.
But of course, 90 percent of picture success – is James Franco. At the moment it's almost the best role of his career. He showed great changes of emotion of the protagonist: from the panic of despair and resignation to his fate, to an incredible desire for freedom and impenetrable determination. Every look, every failure and every success of Aaron have been perceived by the audience as their own. There also were Kate Mara and Treat Williams, but their screen time is hardly significant.
To further reinforce the impression of Franco playing, Boyle has made the film very naturalistic. The scene with the Chinese knife could plunge into the shock most of the audience. From this scene you’ll really feel uneasy. But this is just the rarest case when such naturalism is justified and make the most imbued with the situation, which turned out to be the protagonist.
What can we say in the end? Of course, the film will not liked by everyone (after all, strong naturalism and a minimum of scenery might scare a lot of us). 127 hours is very emotional, atmospheric, quite simply and memorable picture, with a sense and an incredible game of James Franco.
True Grit review
Westerns as a genre are in limbo during the whole 21 century. Movies about Wild West are practically not released, and those that are available – have fallen in box offices. In 2010, the Coen brothers finally changed this tradition, and their "True Grit" became a hit American products. But here there is a very strange situation: on the one hand ever for a revival of popularity the genre needs commercial hit more than ever, but on the other hand – this film is not so really cool to deserve so many accolades. It has been corny overrated.
Scenes in Westerns have always been very simple (usually something like "Crossing the bandit from point A to point B") and "True Grit" does not change this tradition. History tells us about young fourteen year old girl who hires a ranger and a senior marshal, and with them goes to look for the murderer of his father. However, this path will be very long.
When you see in the credits, the names of the Coen brothers, you are waiting for something special and extra ordinary. But, alas, here from the Coen themselves has almost nothing left: most characters are dull, plot has no surprises during the whole movie, and the dynamics has visited this film only in the last 20 minutes. And this is perhaps the main problem of the picture – it has no power, some spirit of adventure, of life, if you want. With works of the Coen this happens very rarely.
The only thing that can boast writers, in the main character - her stubbornness, impenetrable will to live and finish the case were transferred just fine. A lot of these have contributed to the young actress Hayley Staynfeld, in whose talent after this role, there are no doubts. Other actors are also good - Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon and Josh Brolin are very charismatic in their roles.
There is no action here, that’s why the movie is a little dull. But even with the benefit of recreating an era in which takes place the movie, creators have coped well: costumes, camera work and human manners - all this is done at the proper level.
Black swan review
Obsession and following of the path to self-destruction - a favorite theme of cinematic work of director Darren Aronofsky. Thanks to the incredibly catchy style and constant change of the setting of his own films, Aronofsky can always surprise the audience with something special, even if the original topic seems erased (to recall the excellent drama "Requiem for a Dream"). In "Black Swan", the director again turns to his favorite theme, but secondary sense is absent, as he once again is able to show the audience a really catchy and totally original film.
Ballet Theatre Prima Nina the whole her life is striving to be the best among her rivals. Having a central role in the very important performance, she did not realize that in order to adequately play this role, she will have to open another person inside, about whom she did not suspect. The situation is complicated by the fact that she has a worthy competitor, which has all chances to receive all Nina’s roles.
By itself, the plot, despite the seeming simplicity at first, is very exciting and raises an interesting topic: does the art need such victims? "Of course, it is worth!" thought Nina and began to look inside for those qualities which she lacked, to play her role better than anyone. But no wonder they say that you can play the best role only if you live it. And in the end, Nina gradually loses herself, trying to transform in her character.
In order to provide viewer with the fully internal state of Nina and the changes in her character, the director uses the incredible visual tricks, making them incredibly surreal. Over time, you did not even realize what reality is and what imagination of Nina is. Despite the fact that there are no villains in the movie it has been called "a ballet thriller". It is impossible to describe the final in words - you just need to see it.
When there are quieter scenes, the picture makes us happy with graceful ballet, while watching of which it seems as if you watch a real theatre drama.
In general, we can say that "Black Swan" is absolutely deservedly got its nomination for an Oscar. It’s really a great picture that is worth seeing, even if you're not a fan of ballet. With regard to the fundamental question "Is it worth it?" Probably worth it, because it is such an art which called the real one!
No Country for Old Men review
Ten years ago it was thought that the genre of westerns has gone forever. By that time there were filmed various movies, after which it is impossible to say something new and original afterword, summarizing a rich biography. However, in this decade, a film about the brave cowboys decided to revive, but in a totally different form.
Already on the first frames of "No Country for Old Men" we can accurately determine to what genre belongs new Coen brothers’ film. Brothers are not interested in playing by the rules: moving the action from the 80's of nineteenth century in the 80 years of the twentieth, Cohen decided not to stop there and turn out the canons of western inside out.
Yes, there are mandatory heroes of such films - the bad guy, such a goodie and the sheriff, forgotten by god towns, near to which the bad guys scroll their dirty work, instead of the coach - drug jeeps full of weeds and cash, instead of the Indians - the Mexicans, instead of several thousands of dollars - two million…
Coen’s film is a pretty weird and very dark. Brothers have showed with their film that this world has long been died and became like a parched desert. For this desert goes one big man who just kills everyone. He is manic and in his eyes there is only one death. Once on his way has appeared an ordinary plodder. Later this person will regret everything in the world because no one can stop that maniac.
Coen filmed honest and magical movie about death. In this movie, all people have very sad and dead eyes. Well end of this film deserves some applause. Coens have once again proved to everyone that it is still too early to throw them in the cinematic dustbin. This film is unique because it is impossible to describe in words. In this film there are a lot of pluses and most important advantage - it's Javier Bardem. I think in this film, he played his best role.
At the result, we have a masterpiece. It's very stuffy and very dusty film with brilliant dialogues. I still remember the final dialogue Tommy Lee Jones, and once it becomes very scary. These films we need to know. You can’t love Coen for their specificity, but they are true, they shot a real bomb.

Rabbit Hole
Often, expensive Hollywood stars to shake their acting talent shot in low-cost, clean chamber films, where one has to play with maximum dedication, because the game does not hide blemishes with special effects and shaky camera. The movie "Rabbit Hole" is just of such genre: stellar acting duo and quite pretentious, but very heartfelt story. In spirit the pattern is very similar to the domestic drama "Revolutionary Road" with Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, is that the problems with on-screen couples are somewhat different.
Eight months ago, in the family of Becky and Howie Corbett there was a terrible tragedy – their little son has died. From its consequences spouse can’t recover until now. Each in his own attempts to restore peace of mind: Howie playing squash with friends, Becky spends whole days at the plate and trying to simply "erase" all the memories of her son, throwing things of the deceased child. Spouses are looking for support groups, psychological mutual, but all efforts prove futile. Marriage is bursting at the seams, relationships with family strained to the limit, the social circle shrinking before our eyes. And once the heroes have to figure out whether the wounds of the past delayed at least someday.
The first thing that captures the movie is the atmosphere. Film opens with shots of green garden, a bright color palette makes the image very pleasant and relaxed. However, within minutes the viewer begins to understand that despite the outward prosperity, something in this family is not right. A sad piano music even more pumps feelings of sadness and with each subsequent minute, the atmosphere in the film is heated. Despite the slow, almost melancholic plot development, to monitor developments is very interesting, thanks largely to the interesting dialogue and brilliant acting.
Generally, it is necessary immediately to deal with the fact that this movie is not for a mass audience: a static camera, measured narration and oppressive atmosphere of sadness surely will not add any positive emotions to people who came with friends to eat popcorn or just "fun."
Fans of Nicole Kidman will be glad to see something from the renowned actress and a vivid emotional role, whom she had quite a while was not observed. Rudeness and carefully hidden sadness of Aaron Eckhart is perfectly combined with the charisma of Nicole, creating harmony in their duet.
Perhaps the only drawback of separating the tape from a masterpiece, as it is an absolute no pretentiousness. Yes, the story is emotional and touching, and the actors are simply with the highest dedication. But the story lacks depth, and the mass of these family dramas tape a little, what is different. Actually, it's not even a movie in the conventional sense: it has no clear ties, climax, denouement and so on. This is just an episode in the life that is very realistic film-makers have played on the screen.
But this movie needed. Let it not enter into the history of cinema and hardly the audience will remember about it later. But those emotions that you get when watching this movie make a lot to think about and look at their lives a little differently. And after all, isn’t this a magic of cinema?
U.S. box office review (past weekend)
Mighty Western "True Grit" has collected 7.33 million dollars for the fifth weekend, beating, this time a relatively small decline by 33,4%. The total cash is great for this genre of the amount of 138 million dollars. Tuesday has brought to the picture 10 nominations for an Oscar (the second after the "King"), so is unlikely in the near future is expected to place pictures of the top ten.
5.87 million dollars in 2,407 theaters for somewhat smaller 30%-s losses managed to obtain a "Black swan". Darren Aronofsky film gradually approaching the 100 millionth line, collecting a total of 83.3 million dollars during eight weeks of limited and extensive release.
On Saturday, on the 44-day of release the one hundred millionth milestone has taken "Chronicles of Narnia: Conqueror of the Dawn." Last weekend brought the third part of "The Chronicles of Narnia" 1.35 million dollars in 1,135 theaters, increasing the total cash to U.S. $ 100.6 million after seven weeks of release.
Much better was formed a full debut for drama "The Company Men" with Ben Affleck, Kevin Costner, Tommy Lee Jones and some other well-known actors. The film has gathered 648,000 dollars in 106 theaters (6,111 dollars from the site). However and here to talk about a possible return on the 15 millionth project so far is very problematic. A romantic drama "Blue Valentine" has earned 877.8 thousand dollars on the screens of 242 theaters (19th place, just 4.42 million).
The average result for movies from Bollywood showed drama "Dhobi Ghat" in an asset which 365.3 thousand USD in 78 cinemas and 23th film distribution chart. The best result on average charges from the site showed "Barney’s version" the cash register at 143 thousand dollars at 16 theaters (only 285 thousand dollars for two weeks).
Total cash movies top ten chart was 83.4 million dollars, which is 31% less than a year ago, when the seventh victory in a row won "Avatar" (34.9 million), and 30% less than two years ago, when the leader was "Paul Blart: Mall Cop" (21.6 million).
The next week will in 2,900 theaters will be released mystical thriller "The Rite" and in 2700 cinemas - thriller "The Mechanic" with Jason Statham in the lead role. The chances of the first one are evaluated as more preferable.
